@@josephcalderon906 Heartbreakingly true. The current generation overseeing programming would rather honor sin than Christianity. In fact, they take advantage of every opportunity to insult and disparage our Lord and His followers. If writers suggested a show like this today they would have transgender males playing the female parts and vice-versa.

Best part of this whole episode is right at the very end when Carl and young Larry are wheeled out onto the stage in the sleigh and everybody literally starts singing the theme song to the show. Even Richard Deacon which shows backstage the actors must've had a lot of fun making the show.

Producer Carl Reiner played several characters on The DVD Show. On fact he played the original Robert Petrie on the pilot episode which wasn't aired very often. He also played the painter who painted a nude portrait I'd Laura titled "October Eve." He Allen Brady on thus show and didn't appear on too many episodes. His son, Rob appeared on The Andy Griffith Show as a worker in a print shop then went on to play "The meat head" on All 7n the family and in a special Thanksgiving Réunion special on the spin-off Archie Bunker's place.

Yes Buddy was Jewish. There was an episode where Buddy was meeting with his rabbi to get bar mitzvah'd because his family could not afford it when he was a child. Everyone thought he was having an affair because he kept leaving the office early and a strange woman called (the rabbi's wife) and left a message her husband would be home at 5 in the afternoon. In that episode all of the cast members attended the service that featured the show's rabbi and a cantor who did some singing. One of the reasons why the Dick Van Dyke Show was wholesome family entertainment that has stood the test of time is because whether the subject was race relations or religion everyone was given equal time and treated with respect.

When this "era" of television show felt it was necessary and compelled to turn one or two episodes a year into a variety show to highlight the - somehow otherwise unknown extraordinary and amazing "on stage" talent all of the otherwise REGULAR, and run of the mill characters who suddenly had all this hidden talent for vaudeville and singing and dancing in between their mundane jobs, on the show had, I couldn't change the channel fast enough. If I wanted to watch sining and dancing - which I never did and certainly never will, I wouldn't be watching a situation comedy on television.
