Thank you Paul Brownstein and Filmrise for posting the Dick Van Dyke show. I watched these shows with my parents and sister in the 1960’s and thought the show was ever so sophisticated!

I love this episode because it gave Dick a lot of chances to improvise the physical comedy he loved to do. His last couple rounds with Boom Boom in particular!

I was in stitches watching him fight Boom Boom Bailey. This is one of the funniest episodes I've seen. I never liked the Three Stooges but Dick Van Dyke is one of the funniest comedians ever. He's got the ability to move like no one else. Love him.👏❤️

A very young Gary Marshall as the ref. He went on to create /produce the Odd Couple TV series and Happy Days. He directed Pretty Woman and Beaches among other films. His sister Penny Marshall was Laverne (and Shirley) and the director of Big, Awakenings and A League of Their Own.

The big guy played as the man who had a toy poodle for a pet, and the other guy played as "Rob's" friend throughout the Army scenes, but then, when he played as a jeweler who went to the Petrie's with the innocent intent of correcting a piece of jewelry of Rob's, Rob didn't know who he was.

Allan Melvin played a few characters on The Dick Van Dyke Show, including Harrison B. Harding and Sol Pomerantz. Harding is the character Rob doesn't recognize.

Also, Rob should have lost the fight. He took advantage of Bailey's respect, as Bailey, seeing he wasn't in fighting shape, did not fight him. Otherwise he would've simply knocked him flat while he was aiming uselessly.

And the episode didn't even end on an actual funny note with the whole "I hit him in the appendix" bit; he never even got close to the region of the appendix, so there was yet another lie the writers put into the script (they put lies and cheating into nearly every episode, tiresomely).

Yep, I saw that, too. By no means did he hit him in the region of the appendix, but apparently everyone watching the show in the 1960s wasn't aware of that.

In the previous season, Rob is upset because Laura uses judo to flip a drunken harasser. He is 'Pitter Patter Petrie, a boxing champion in the army. He can handle himself (my wife says I should have been on the set to make these corrections).
