I still love this game, it's basically like Digimon World transformed into a card game. The variety of Digimon and options you have as far as customising your decks is quite deep which adds to more replayability. Getting 100% though is practically impossible unless you can trade with another save file as you will need to in order to get the other armour digimon along with their respective digi-eggs. This is of course not possible until you beat Analogman. I do agree though that the game peaks at Analogman and then goes back down to fairly easy afterwards, especially after you beat the story you can access more powerful cards (you were technically wrong as there are some Ultimates that are impossible to get until post-game but I do get what you mean). Yo I love the card shop and there are guides out there that will tell you exactly what card fusions you can make. It does remind me a lot of Pokemon TCG on Gameboy in a way. If you're the type of person that likes card games and in this case Digimon then they will definately love Digital Card Battle as well.

Oh, god...! 100% Card completion...the nightmare that is hoping you get a mutation and said mutation ends up as one of the really useless Digi-Jewel cards... To this day, I've never managed it (I only got 3 of the 7 jewels). Still, I've played this game fairly recently and was able to sink hours into it. It's a very nice time sink, if nothing else. It also helps I've got a sister to play with, because playing in 2P mode is really where the challenge is at. I will agree, though, that it could have used gating some cards for after you beat A and having another final boss; I wished for those myself. That said, if you know the game enough, A is not quite hard. The Hacking card WereGarurumon gives you at Wiseman Tower's Battle Cafe and the support effect of ToyAgumon will see you through that battle without needing a single partner. Or in my case, I brought mons with O/X counter and used supports that forced Apocalymon to use O/X. Fusing Partner Finders work pretty well, too. Endnote: Love that thumbnail a lot!
@Caspicum4 жыл бұрын
There's some issue with Cody(?) or Izzy or something, where you can permanently miss a card if you do certain battles in the wrong order too. 100% completion is fucked hey. Also those jewels are bullshit. I got two of them before I gave up. You're right about A, a Data Copy and a Hacking will pretty much carry you through, and the trade-off to his difficulty was that he always has the same cards in the same order, so you can plan around that. It's just a shame that brickwall of difficulty was really the last one.
@sakuraardashan49794 жыл бұрын
@@Caspicum At least I can see why they made A draw cards in the same order. Or well, if you have no friends to trade cards with, you wouldn't have a lot of cards at that point. Maybe the devs felt it has to be winnable somehow, even with minimal preparation. Also, Cody or Izzy... I just remember some people saying that once you beat Izzy and get his mutation predicter thing, your chances of getting a Digi-Jewel becomes almost zero. And speaking of Cody, fighting him with his pre-made deck (to get his partner cards to your list if you didn't pick Armadillomon at any point) is a giant pain in the neck. But at the same time...the challenge was also kind of welcome. It's weird. On missing cards, though, I can't recall if there's an alternative way to get Magnamon in your list if you didn't pick Veemon as your first partner. I'm just sure that BlackWargreymon won't give it to you. I also forgot to add that the one time a Battle Arena imposes a special (this being you can't use a deck with option cards), it only applies to you. Not that that made the Arena any less easy, except MetalEtemon (iirc) and the possibility that he'll spam golden bananas--which aren't infinite, but it is annoying.

I have spent quite a long time with this game in my teenage years, where I am limited by what I can get while everyone plays their PS2. This was a major time sink for me, as I figure out combos, and different deck ideas. Some of my favorites is the Force Circle Counter deck, Type Changer, Special Digivolve abuse, and full Rookie aggro. Though I must admit, I pretty much tapped out most of the play value way before I hit 300 wins for BlackWarygreymon. For a PS1 card game, it definitely has enough depth and gameplay, then say Forbidden Memories, and it is a shame that it is not talked about more often.
@Caspicum4 жыл бұрын
It is strange that Forbidden Memories is such a beloved game, while Digital Card Battle got memory holed. I dig YuGiOh, but Forbidden Memories is so chance-based and grindy, it requires a lot of wading through shit to reach the highs that Digital Card Battle hits. Force Circle Counter is painful though, especially when your Armor mons are beefy Circle boys.

@@Caspicum I actually have to restraint myself from using partners. They are just way too OP even before armor evolving since they gain little bits of stats on their moves bit by bit, so after a while, they are just way too powerful, and deviate from the norm from deck building, even if I customize the partner for the deck. Another complaint I got for partners is that you are locked in to choose for the 2nd one, what if I don't like Patamon or Gatomon? Also, Magnamon needs you to beat the game (bkwargreymon) to even get, which really sucks.
@Caspicum4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's all questionable. I was so happy when I got Magnamon as a kid, then promptly realised blackwargreymon was it. He was the final boy, so I had nobody to flex Magnamon on. Mid-tiers are stuff that could become top-tiers with some little improvements and quality of life changes. Otherwise quality games that were let down in a big way by small things. See this is where a lot of people got this game wrong, they actually played it. I enjoyed it by throwing a few gameshark codes in it that maxes your hp to 9999 and using Gearmon's Self-destruct. If you turned off the battle animation, you can use the Self-destruct infinitely as you can hold the button to keep your hp full to make Gearmon's hp full again right after it hits 0 and before it gets discarded. The fun with the game was the references, the battle was shit. If I wanted a more better and more fun card battle game, I would have played Monster Rancher Battle Cards 1 or 2 instead. Well 2 is better. I realized this after I got hard locked since I was playing it before with a friend and we got to a certain point at the middle where you had to fight Greymon and we only had 1 saved file. You'd ask why did I cheat? Well, when your parents are against video games when you were a kid and only lets you play 1 hour on just a Friday, and maybe 2 hour on Saturday, you realize that redoing almost 10 hours of content is not worth it, cause it will take a month to get back at that point and you'd be burned out of the game due to that. This is why I gamesharked most of my PS1 games cause I had limited time to play so I had to cut out the unnecessary grind. I only got to play a bit more as I was growing up and my parents were loosening my game time and gamesharking stuff also went out of style. Now as an adult, I can play and grind till I die if I want to and nobody is there to stop me anymore.

Old times finished it many times & now playing it on ePSX emulator on my Mi box also using gameshark for level up my partners skills I learn a trick used to do it on psx 2000 each 5 level your partner instead 10 for attack or hp so my trick is to save game each time my partner gonna live up near a multiply of five from 5 to 95 so with Veemon I focused the level up on O attack the totally attack of O attack is 980 + 10 to the HP for HP fever bonus hint hint

This game always seems fun, I do have to give it a more proper try again instead of my half-hearted rental from nearly 20 years ago XD. The funny part is the issue with the difficulty can be attributed to most games that use a semi-competitive battle system in a single player game. Pokemon being the main culprit. How does one make a decent single player where the rules of the ai is the same rules as the player. AI can't really account for all the building and on the fly strategies that an actual player might use. So either the game has to break its own rules (Which is usually rad) or just have better ai (Most of which never bother to do)
@Caspicum4 жыл бұрын
That's the one thing I enjoyed about Final Fantasy 13. By healing between battles, you could make every battle a potential challenge. This obviously comes with lots of draw-backs, like, if everything is a challenge, you're going to be burnt out on challenge by the time you hit bosses, and what makes bosses so special? Also the whole 'game plays itself' thing.

This game is extremely fun, too bad, it is not popular for the mainstream. Thus, we'll never get a sequel. Also for the starters for early stage difficulty: V-mon - Easy mode Hawkmon - Normal mode Armadillomon - Hard mode
@Caspicum4 жыл бұрын
You're probably right about that, but the Ice gym absolutely dominated my Veemon starter deck with it's endless use of 3x Fire abilities. I don't remember the Hawkmon/Armadillomon decks too well but I vaguely remember the yellow one being hot garbage.
@Shootingfoul4 жыл бұрын
@@Caspicum This was one of my favorite games during my childhood. I played through it so many times with hundreds of hours, however, I kind of disliked Armadillomon deck's playstyle, so reframed from trying a playthrough with it forever.(the challenge had to of been "pick Armadillomon , and you must commit to water or rare deck", otherwise, it'd be too easy and pointless) Eventually, I finally gave it a try. I think at the time, I've already cleared the game 4 - 5 times. But even then, I still got so frustrated I gave up. 2 years later, when I was more of an adult with patience, I finally grinded through it, but it was a torture. Mainly because, both water and rare had such low attacks, you can't kill your enemy before they evolve.(Armadillomon starter deck have almost no +attack support cards too). If you get unlucky and go 2nd and your opponent draw well, they'll just go champion and wreck you. One of the best early rare cards, Psychemon also doesn't synergize well with your deck. Since blue cards have high hp to begin with and rare low stage digimons tend to suck. You kind of have to keep resetting for Brachiomon reward for your deck to stay viable. Long story short, I eventually did it, but it was not fun.
@Shootingfoul4 жыл бұрын
@@Caspicum I forgot to mention, the endgame for the Armadillomon starter is to build blue and aim for circle counter deck. Basically 4 x Garurumon 4 x SandYanmamon and a bunch of cards with O counter to make opponent hit themselves to death.
@matthewkuscienko46162 жыл бұрын
I recall you can get Mamemon pretty early in the game if you pick the Armadillomon deck, and he's actually amazing. Only needs 30 DP to digivolve into (so it's not to hard to get to him if you can make a champion and keep it alive), has strong attacks for a rare card, and his X attack is a circle counter. I don't know if you're guaranteed to get him or not, but I remember my last playthrough of the game several years ago I got him after beating the first arena of the game
