My wife and I lived in the apartment next to her when this happened. Our bedroom wall was her kitchen wall. The reports that say her and her brother, "argued so loud the neighbors heard them," that's us. We reported that to the OPD homocide detective, Derwin Longmire (later fired from the OPD for corruption and mishandling evidence). We also reported that we heard her brother in the kitchen either the night of or the night after she went missing, crying and singing, "She Talks to Angels" by the Black Crows. Specifically, that part of the song. Seemed pretty important to us that he would emphasize those words, "She Talks to Angels," if she was only missing and not dead. He was a creepy dude, we always felt he was responsible for her going missing.

It sounds to me like her brother killed her, dumped her body somewhere, put her stuff in her car and ditched it nearby. Crazy that the police didn’t get a warrant or gain access to the apartment for 2 months - they would not have needed the brother’s permission to enter if the lease wasn’t in his name. Sounds like a very poor investigation. Also seems clear that they found enough blood and physical evidence to determine that she was badly injured or killed in the apartment. Very sad.

From what I recall about this case is that the brother was being kicked out of Mandy's apartment , by her due to his stealing something like 6k from her and writing bad checks on her accounts. Also, he was completely uncooperative with the Police from the start of the investigation and continued using her debit card after she went missing. He had a bad drug problem and stole all of his sister's money. Maybe the family got him a lawyer , because I think Mandy's mother was in denial about the circumstances at hand and helped him out by letting him move in with her. Such a tragic loss and I wish LE would've got a search warrant for the apartment right away. I think the brother killed her in that apartment. Sad, sad case.

I think Mandy’s brother (the one who was living with her) is involved in her disappearance, especially after the fight the two had. He could have driven her car to the location where it was found, locked it with her belongings inside, and easily walked the two miles back to the apartment. It’s anyone’s guess what he did with her body. I don’t understand why the police didn’t get a warrant and search Mandy’s apartment immediately after her car was found. I think the police dropped the ball by not immediately searching her apartment for evidence. And once new tenants moved in, any evidence that might have been there earlier was forever lost. This is an extremely sad case.

I used to live on Merritt Ave in Oakland back in 2010. The area was *not* nefarious. Oakland is not a hotbed of crime and drugs the way everyone thinks, but the area around the lake can be dicey at night if you’re walking around alone. But there’s no neighborhood around there where you would drive to get out to buy drugs. It’s more likely a corrupt cop than a car jacker

I lived in LA around this time and services was horrible on cell phones. Supposedly there were not enough towers. I remember being in Burbank and trying to call a friend on my cell, only to get a message to try later. Even in my house, my cell phone worked better in the living room than in the back of the house. I have AT&T. So, cell phone service was not that great back then. I don't know if someone cut her off though. I do know that I used to lose service in the middle of call - even on the landline.

There are at least a few angles here that warrant more investigation, but I do have to say - there are parts of Oakland where you mind your own business and don't see anything. Used to live there. Overall it's a great city, but it has some rough patches, like all big cities do.

Very clearly her brother knows more than he is telling. Most likely, he is the one who made her disappear. They have this BIG fight. He is a crack head. Anger could easily arise in such a person. She goes for a drive right after. Her car is abandoned. She disappears and he is VERY reluctant to help out?? Yet he blames it on his drug issue. BS. This guy took her life. Sad. He will pay in the end, right?

I know this is old but I just listened to it. I think her brother's story is weak. If they had such a bad fight before she left she likely wouldn't have told him she was leaving - she would have just left. I think he may have chased her down or followed her. I think she was dragged out of her car at a stop or turn and taken somewhere else - probably close by. They will probably eventually find her remains, but I feel her brother had something to do with this. It's also suspicious that the family cleaned the place out before the police were able to gain access. But you see this with families who are protecting other family members. They lost one and they don't want to lose another even though the person had been responsible. We had a case like this here in our area where a brother killed his sister and the family covered for him. Eventually he was found guilty, but....... it was a long slog before they were able to get to that decision.

In the early years of my sister having schizophrenia, she would park her car in places that got it towed. She would be driving along seeing wild animals running along the road chasing her. African styled big animals like giraffes, elephants, or rhinos. She was very scared in her hallucinations and would tell me how they would hide along side the freeway watching for her.. She would just stop in the middle of the road and leave the car where it was.

Cases like these are truly heartbreaking. ...I pray for this young woman and her family. I hope they get some answers. The wildcard, I guess, in this case is if she was also using and had become an addict. I am not saying it is what happened, If she did fall down that path then it opens up the possibility of owing a dealer money. If the police discovered something to that effect, or if she was tied to a dealer somehow (trying to get extra cash to move), then unfortunately the possibilities are numerous. I hope not, of course, and this is all just random thoughts. I heard about this case a few years ago, but it just occurred to me now to consider it from those possibilities....
