I don’t usually purchase luxury brand, except for Hermes scarves. They are high quality (higher than any other brands) and well priced, and they are created by real artists. Other designer brands try to emulate it, but their quality and design stop short, and to boot it up they are more expensive.

I had an extremely bad experience with Prada when buying a bag earlier this year. As Prada shops are only located in our capital city, I had to make the payment online and requested an SA to post it to me via mail. When the bag reached me, I was so excited to unbox it but to my horror, there was a GLARING scratch on my bag. Had to return the bag and waited for more than 2 months to receive a new bag. That really ruined the entire purchase experience!

2008 : I walked into Chanel boutique in Vancouver, as I wanted (and then could afford) my first Chanel bag and a wallet. I was treated like royalty, offered champagne and top notch service. Got sent invites for private trunk shows in the mail, etc. I went back a year later and got a blazer and a pair of boots. Same royal treatment and high quality service, they went above and beyond to find the pair of boots I wanted in my size within minutes. The items I got are still in great shape, although I do use them regularly (I give them proper care). fast forward to 2020 - went back to find they had closed shop and re-opened in a much smaller space in a department store. I walked in to inquire about the wallet that had lost its tab. I was ignored at first (I didnt look well dressed enough) and then upon insisting, was told that there was no warranty whatsoever on any of their products, and that I was to send the wallet to France or Italy at my own cost to get it repaired. Then was dismissed, with a hand gesture. My my, how things have changed. Luxury is now akin to buffonery.

previously luxury brands were oriented toward wealthy people only (for which they needed to control the quality), now "luxury" brands lean towards the poor and middle class to maximize their profits (for which they need quantity not quality). Now people buy expensive bags and shoes on their credit card. That's how Bernard Arnault was able to become the second richest person after Elon Musk. He won't be able to reach that level of profitability if he focuses his brands only on rich customers.

It's been confirmed (I will have to go back and fact-check this. Maybe Leather Leatherstein...), YSL doesn't use 'full grain' leather on all of its leather products. In fact, the majority are top grain which is the common hide you'll find in their respective outlet stores. Top grain isn't the highest grade which could explain the quality issue. Another turn off about Prada is when they released the re-edition nylon bag in 2020, they couldn't keep up with demand because it was so popular, so they ended up mass-manufacturing them in China. Then I later realized Prada has been manufacturing their products in China for the last 10 years. You want to manufacture in China, that's fine... but why charge a price tag like it's made by an experienced Italian artisan? It's like they're crafting a luxury illusion but we're clearly seeing through the cracks.
@jpaola965911 ай бұрын
Watch à little documentary cause they’re available now, almost all European luxury brands use off house “artisans” they underpay people to work from their homes or at general manufacturing facilities that are not associated with them to make parts for bags, clothing etc, I want to clarify that they’re all in situations of undervalue and don’t work for just one brand. For context, one person can have the mission of making let’s say 1 thousand metallic logo pieces for a bag per day and be paid let’s say 1 € per piece. Voilà, that’s the ugly truth. The only in house artisans for brands are the ones who make pieces for collections to show and not the pieces that get sold worldwide. That is impossible without a mass production warehouse operating somewhere cheaper for them. Our purchases hold so much impact and responsibility. We shouldn’t all act surprised about the process behind it. It’s like people who don’t believe Apple products are made in China. Of course they are! Steve Jobs hasn’t been assembling all by hand delicately specially for each buyer 🙄🙄
@TheSimmpleTruth11 ай бұрын
Most of them are not manufactured by Italian artisans. In Milan, they have plenty of Chinese contractors that bring in Chinese workers to make high-end brands. Then, they add the label “Made in Italy”, by undocumented Chinese worker working 16-18 hours a hour. If don’t believe, check the documentaries and investigative reports on the issue. It is very common now.

As she shopped, she overheard 2 SA's whispering about her. One said, "Good Lord, people still carry that?" When my co-worker asked to see a particular Chanel bag, she was told by one of the whispering SA's that they were out of stock. And then the other one hissed, "Why don't you try LV, dear." @dapperlygrungy3189 Жыл бұрын
I had to comment. I am not a logo person. I am not trying to prove I'm rich either. I did, however, purchase a pair of Prada Downtown sneakers at $1070. They resemble Nike Jordan's. Nike's leather is synthetic and Prada's leather quality is superior to Nike's. Plus Prada sneakers can be dressed up for an elevated look, whereas Nike Jordan's are gym and lifestyle sneakers. I know the Prada sneakers I bought is not worth the price, but I can't find an elevated pair of sneakers similar to the Prada one's I bought. With that said, I am returning my Prada sneakers. I realize, a $1000+ sneaker is excessive.
@meaty7512 Жыл бұрын
Perhaps the quality is comparable. But I’m pretty sure it can’t match luxury bags in terms of history, heritage, design, etc. it’s more than just the quality of the bag - that is merely something that is expected of when people buy luxury bags, they are after a lot more, perhaps non-tangible attributes. For example, these luxury houses set the trend in fashion and produces some of the most iconic silhouette we see today such as the Chanel classic flap, Louis Vuitton speedy, Hermes Kelly/birkin, etc to which we then see leather houses, High Street brands widely producing bags of similar silhouette and design. So why buy a bag that is derivative when you can go for the original bag with heritage and history? My 2-cents.
@christineg452 Жыл бұрын
Well, my two cents are…are you listening to yourself? Beyond the condescension of my bag being “comparable quality”, it’s the level of importance you are placing on luxury bags, etc. How many bags does one need? How many bags before you’ve arrived? Before you’re accepted? I have one tote and I have no need to constantly buy the next “it” bag. With all the serious problems our world is facing, this shopping obsession is kind of sad.

Yey somewhere where I can share my experience. 1-Chanel Paris: They made me feel like I was going to steal something from the store. Security follows me everywhere where I go and literally rotates with me as I do, while making eye contact with another security to keep on eye. That was awful, I felt so awkward. Louis Vuitton: Few days ago I wanted to ask if they can fix a bag that I have already bought and paid for. I was asked to wait in line like everyone else, and I did. While waiting, I felt like I was queuing at a kiosk to get a sandwich or something which didn’t feel luxury at all. So I ended up leaving. 3-Hermes, the way they scan me once I enter the store is disgusting, and that they make me feel like a ghost “until” an SA is free, there wasn’t even anyone telling me hello, we will be with you shortly or anything, it’s as if I wasn’t there. Seriously, I would much rather pay a personal shopper to do it for me and not humiliate myself.

The demand for “luxury” products exceeds supply. There aren’t simply enough really skilled people to produce those items. Only products for which you have waiting lists of months or years are produced by real artisans that had years off apprenticeship. The true luxury is time and craftsmanship. Also we have somehow unrealistic expectations: it is not because a bag costs the price of a small car that it won’t scratch or age.

The hyper vigilant security was gone. So maybe at least in this store, they have made improvements.

I laugh when people still throw their money away on these so called “luxury” designer labels. Guess what, you’re getting played! It’s all cheap crap sourced as cheap as they can get it. Secretly from China, made in China or anywhere cheap labor is common. What status 🙄🤣.

I have beautiful quality bags made by local artisans and leather crafters from various travels. My Italian made bags of lesser known brands are still beautiful more than a decade later. A a fraction of cost, I’m winning 😁.

That is right! Really quality products are only for smart people, who are not brand whores and who rather support small unknown companies, that focus on quality. There are still many real artisans, who make things in old way and don´t focuse on marketing that much and other nonsense, but people are nowadays too brainwashed to understand this simple reality. There is a ton of information on internet, where to buy quality products, but most people rather buy big brands. Well masses just enjoy being played I guess. What a sad world we live in. The world without intelligence.@@theladynextdoor313

Here’s my luxury experience about Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max. The back cover was totally broken TWICE while it fall out of my hands on the WOODEN floor in my apartment. In both cases the smartphone was in a safety case (original letter case from Apple). Guess what? Apple said it was my fault!!! So the advertisement campaign where they drop an iPhone from the 2floon on the pavement is a TOTAL FAKE for naive rich customers

My favorite brand is YSL for purses but i only have one. I bought it online from Neiman Marcus as i had a big birthday coming up and this was a special treat for myself. It is the camera bag and was around $1400. It was gorgeous when it arrived but the zipper was difficult. To this day when i use it i leave it unzipped as i am afraid the zipper will either get stuck in the middle, or else it will just tear off of the fabric that it is sewn onto. This same bag is now $1700. I will not be guying another- i have read online that everyone is reporting zipper issues with YSL.

I only had the best experiences at Louis Vuitton and Dior in Toronto, I consider the teams the best and in the luxury business by far. I have never felt pressured or rushed to finalize a purchase - if anything both brands have at times encouraged me to sleep on it before making a decision which I found very considerate. Purchasing a fake luxury product is not an option and the quality is most certainly not the same. The luxury pieces I own are special to me and mean something to me. I associate a great shopping experience, and pride that I was able to treat myself to do buy them. I work hard for my money and its not all about showing off trying to appear richer than I am - that's what people who go for fake items do. I don't want a copy of anything produced god knows where by people facing terrible working conditions

😲 “ BETTER GET USED TO IT!…. Why? Nowadays, so-called ‘ quality ’ and ‘ customer service ’ are just marketing jargon. Fortunately, I just by apparel items for certain looks. Just because something’s very expensive doesn’t necessarily mean that It’s ‘ better ’ or ‘ will last ’ . Face It! The modern era of discount and online retailers fueled cheaper mass manufacturing expansion that fostered substandard foreign imports with compromised material standards in order to meet demand. As if that wasn’t enough, Technology continues replacing direct consumer interaction with the ever-dwindling number of distinguished brands and personalized services. ”

I had no problems in Italy. I dress stylishly, have healthy hair and I’m thin. In my experience, if you are an American walking around wearing Bermuda shorts and plastic flip flops you aren’t going to be treated nicely. I don’t know if you were wearing super casual clothing when you went but it’s something to consider. Just because you’re on vacation doesn’t mean you can drop the ball. In some cultures, looking good is still a sign of respect for others. Many Americans don’t understand that they can’t expect special treatment when they are being disrespectful abroad.

Honestly, this is probably why Coach is having such a revival and success--yes, Coach is finally over their logomania and putting out trendy, cute designs again, but they also aren't charging an arm, leg, or kidney for their quality goods, and their sales associates are friendly, not caught up in the 'prestige' of working for the brand.

I personally think the Chanel bag models are beautiful but I don't consider myself crazy about the Chanel But I like what they create. I would really like to have a pink or yellow Chanel bag, but if I found a brand that made dupes I would definitely buy the dupe because for me the brand doesn't really matter. I think it only gives you this "social value" when you are rich, because a poor person wearing it will always be considered "fake" or if it is legitimate, people will just say how stupid we are for wasting money on a designer bag and that we should buy something more valueble. So for me it's not worth having something luxurious without having a luxurious lifestyle. Even more not worth it when the bag its way more expensive than it should lol Idk its just my opinion 😅

Jimmy Choo flats were of awful stiff leather , the color peeled off and they were very uncomfortable. I wrote to them and they never answered back. Victoria Beckham pants ripped open from the first wear . My emails to her remained unanswered too. I ll never buy again any of these brands.

Words have meanings, and "luxury" means "waste" and "excess". Corporate entities have tried to transform a word suggesting a vice into a seeming virtue. It is a vice nonetheless, and its antithesis is thoughtul thrift and planning. People are going to spend money one way or another, but they would be wie to get more bang for the buck and not go into hock for shoddy stuff. I would reaonably expect owners of 'designer' brands to insist upon a high level of quality, usually one of the reasons to pay a prmium price for anything from underwear to automobiles. When the high price fails to reflect genuine quality, then the purveyors of the schlock have cheated their customers.

Not to sound like a total Karen but from my personal experience for most part these luxury stores don’t care about the complaints because for every one person who complained they have 100 who still went and bought their products just because of the status and desirability of the item I have been on both sides of the spectrum I have bags that are ten years old that are still perfect from all of the above designer and then there is one or two products that had issues and I had to fight tooth and nail to get them to fix it and at some point had to stop buying from them and complaining to corporate only helps 50 percent of fhe time to get issues resolved 🤷🏼♀️ I have recently started buying second hand luxury goods from reputable sellers to avoid dealing with some of the retailers directly to save myself the frustration and obviously money so if an issue arises at least I didn’t pay full price and can just pay to get the item fixed. @richardhead548 Жыл бұрын
Funny how one of the top 6 ingredients in la prairie's "platinum cream" is hydrolyzed yeast extract, a cheap cheap ingredient used in cheap food manufacturing to boost flavor (common in your basic Dollar Tree frozen foods, lol) Platinum Rare Haute-Rejuvenation Face Cream which they claim contains actual platinum and costs more than $1000 contains no platinum whatsoever according to the ingredients label they publish. I guess they assume rich people won't even bother looking at the ingredients. Apart from squalene, which would be the main ingredient responsible for the effects they claim, there's nothing else in there worth $1000. Even squalene is not worth that much and you can purchase pure squalene oil at a much cheaper price. Luxury cosmetics are scams for the most part. Just read the ingredients and educate yourself.
