holy moly.....if you were alive in the late 70s the Doobie Bros ruled the FM radio airwaves. countless top hits & 1st rate musicians. Pat Simmons has held the reins since the beginning, Tom Johnston, double drummers, incredible harmonies......fire it up.

And Patrick looks exciting in this one, like he was having a good time. And I'm glad they added a flute player too, it makes all the sounds of this concert all the more better.

I wish I could give this a few hundred thumbs up's for all the people sitting there just smiling!! I'm not one to get up and dance at concerts - I'm too fascinated watching the artists play. But I can't understand how someone could have been there and stayed seated during this song. Especially with that guitar solo going on right next to you!!! Great musicians, and I have loved this song since the first time I heard it decades ago.

Yes they are and they can't even get NOMINATED for the Rock Hall of Fame, much less enshrined. The Hall is a disgrace, they have even put garbage rappers in but not the Doobies.

I often wonder what their first manager/label thought when they first said, ok, were gonna have 3 guitarists, 2 drummers, and a horn section and 2 lead singers back in 1970. 😂
@GoudLoodje3 ай бұрын
It really built up over the years. When the doobies first formed they had 1 drummer, 1 bass and 2 guitarists, that was it. *really long text incoming* For their second album they added drummer Michael Hossack into the mix for more dynamic, and so they got 2 drummers. The 2 drummers would often play different parts. They also started putting keyboards and horns into their songs, but for the time being they didn’t have any keyboards/horns when playing live. On their third and fourth album, Steely Dan’s guitarist Jeff “Skunk” Baxter played Hawaiian steel pedal guitar on 1 song for each album. Jeff would later become the band’s third guitarist and first play as a full member on their fifth album, Stampede. The 2 lead singers comes from lead singer and guitarist Tom Johnston being hospitalized soon after the start of their tour promoting Stampede in 1975. If they stopped touring, they’d face a lawsuit and thus Jeff Baxter invited keyboardist Michael Mcdonald to the band, which was their first live keyboardist and their new lead-singer. Michael was originally a temporary replacement for Tom but after the release of their album Takin’ It To The Streets, on which Tom only sang 1 song, Tom decided to leave the band to focus on his health. Would he not have, he probably wouldn’t have been alive today. Michael also became a permanent member of the band, though Tom’s place as guitarist was never filled until he rejoined in the 80s. Since in the studio they made a lot of use of saxophones and brass instruments, the next logical step for a new band member was a permanent saxophone player, which they found in Cornelius Bumpus. He first appeared on record for the Doobies’ final album before breaking up, One Step Closer. After the band reunited Cornelius was replaced, but since he was a guest on the show in this video in particular, they had 2 saxophone players so they were able to replicate some parts of songs they hadn’t replicated live before. That’s basically it. I admire you for reading through this all if you did, lol

Nobody combines different genres in a single composition like the Doobies Bros. And their writing in of horns, reeds, winds is exceptional. Imagine this composition with a Big Band

This is the kind of stuff only the Doobs seem capable of . The quick switch from acoustic is really something to see. I've seen them do this number in shows .Nice quality and a great take .Pat Simmons takes a good electric solo .Him and Tommie together is approaching legendary .John McVie is just an all around talented ace . And , I do believe , that's Cornelius Bumpus on the SAX .He was a very sweet and wonderful guy . This is rare footage in my opinion .Thank You .

Been a Doobs fan for decades. Just albums, never seen them live. There's some new footage appearing on YT, (new to me anyway) that shows the guys really stretching and jamming. Get some amazing musicians together and you don't have to follow the dots...well, not all the time anyway. Absolutely loving this...the sun is high....skies are blue....a Doobie Day! I still have a little weep now and again....South City Midnight Lady always brings out the wuss in me but that can't be bad can it? Doobranauts will understand and major love to all of you.

I go to a lot of rock concerts and the best by far was the Doobie Brothers in New Orleans. Not sure what their fascination with New Orleans is because they have 2 songs that I know of that are about this city. Just ordered the New CD/DVD combo "World Gone Crazy". It seem they went back to their roots on this one. (Thank goodness !!!!!!!!!!!)

I've seen no other band more than the Doobie Brothers - five times. I remember in the mid-70's in high school going through Cherry Grove on the way to the beach in NC. Something about this song reminds me of the band. They do a lot of charity work these days. Great group to listen to to ring in the New Year 2024.

I answered my own question about why the Doobie Brothers sing about New Orleans so much.“Toulouse Street is a street in New Orleans and it was the last date we played on our first tour right after we released our first album,” Simmons recalled to Sounds. “It was the first time I’d ever been in the South, and this was the place that impressed me the most. I spent a lot of time down in the French quarter, and a lot of time on that particular street. The South is so mysterious - I think the whole South is epitomized by Dr. John - and the last date of our tour made a big impression on me because I had no idea where we were going to go from there.” Read More: How the Doobie Brothers Broke Through With 'Toulouse Street' | ultimateclassicrock.com/doobie-brothers-toulouse-street/?trackback=tsmclip
