Very much dug this. Dick Clark was a very respectful and nice man. Started with American Bandstand in 50s and love he was a DJ knew music extensively. Started in Philly show went to CA. Jim is one of the greatest singers and Light my Fire is an iconic song, totally great. Also an iconic band hats off to all of them.

Morrison was into audience confrontation--Artaud, etc. The AB footage is from early in the band's career. Later, he would bait the audience sexually, culminating in the infamous Dinner Key Auditorium bust in Miami in March 1969. Some witnesses who were there said Jim, drunk out of his gourd, whipped out his John Thomas; others, no. Keyboardist Ray Manzarek said no. He was convicted of two misdemeanors. The case was still on appeal when Jim died in Paris in 1971. Florida pardoned Morrison in 2010, 39 years after his death.

Unlike Dick Clark, Ed Sullivan, who had the number-one variety series in America, did not want Morrison singing about "getting higher" on HIS show, which the country watched faithfully every Sunday night. Jim ignored Ed when the band later performed on Sullivan in September 1967, and sang the lyrics as written. It was the first and last Doors appearance on Ed's program.

I'm one of the biggest Doors fans out there, ever since a friend introduced me to them in 1987 when I was 16. Sadly I will never get to see The Doors live, but I have made sure on my travels from Australia, that I've done most of my bucket list, spending time at Jim's grave at the Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris, visiting the Whiskey during the day by accident, where my American friends told the staff I had come all the way from Australia, and the staff were awesome, letting me have the run of the place, in the old Doors dressing room, and jumping up on stage. But by far, the best experience was staying in Jim's Motel Room in West Hollywood, reading all the messages from people from all over the world. And just before I left, with all the windows closed, on a still summer day, I thanked Jim for letting me stay there, at which point, the lamp in the room started swaying... I remember asking, "Is that you, Jim?" Who knows? But I would highly recommend doing some reactions to the Live at The Hollywood Bowl Concert. Jim has a couple on unintentional funny moments. Thanks for reaction guys, and a big thanks for all your reactions to John Farnham, Jimmy Barnes and all our talented Australian musicians.

Speaking of hosting, long time host, Ed Sullivan banned The Doors after their only appearance on his show. Because they violated CBS' censors on Light My Fire. Censors had an issue with a line, "girl, we couldn't get much higher" Band promised that they will change the line while being live, but Morrison didn't change it. With the censors and Sullivan's conservative stance on drug use, they were banned from show. Sullivan didn't even shake Morrison's hand after song ended. During his time, Sullivan was powerful man who can make or break careers. He and Johnny Carson had that power. Dick Clark made stars on his show such as Prince, Jackson 5, and Aerosmith.

Both Ray and Robby regrouped together with The Cult's Ian Astbury dubbed as The Doors of the 21st Century until Ray's death in 2013. Their former bandmate, John Densmore sued them because the use of band name, The Doors. By the way, Dick Clark, man with the mic was nicknamed, America's Oldest Teenager" because he hosted American Bandstand from 1957 to 1987, 30 years. He through his production company, Dick Clark Productions created New Year's Rockin' Eve that he shared hosting duties with Ryan Seacrest (Dick Clark had a stroke), and Ryan took over hosting duties after Clark's death in 2012.

That "staring at someone" thing? Jim was not comfortable with crowds at the beginning (and given his liquor intake did he ever get truly comfy?) But there's a little trick you can use to overcome the facing-a-mob discomfort (and I'm sure you know this already). Don't look at the whole mass of people. Pick some random person you can see and make them your audience. Focused attention doesn't leave you time to become anxious. Some ways in performing will take up all of your time and you will be fine.
