Oh nice, I'm glad that gets mentioned. I always tell people I coach that it's always 20% 20% 40% 40% 60% 80%. If you dont feel comfortable at 40%, go back to 20%.

Great video. Great tips. I thought you would say, “practice shooting the 10 pin.” That practice alone added +15 to my average.
@sedley25672 ай бұрын
After I wrote that, in league play I was hitting the pocket quite well but leaving the 10 pin 5 times in one game. Four in a row! I picked up the 10 pin every time though, basically adding about 50 compared with opens.

That said, a LOT of good points in this. When I do drills, I do 'em outside actually. Gets me used to how hot bowling alleys get during competition.

Love the video, something though to add to the next one..if there is another, and something I don't see in other videos like these much. "Do not be a homebody". We have multiple centers in this town and in the next towns over and I try to stress to the kids, especially the high school bowlers to practice at the other centers. Learn different lanes, or different house shots might change even the simplest thing, even a different approach material might make you rethink what you need to do moving left or right.
@etarnkufecin6 ай бұрын
that is if you are lucky enough to have multiple centers reasonable close.

Pace of play is important, however it's tough during practice when you are by yourself on a lane. Personally, I'm at an age where if I'm practicing it's just to stay loose. The center doesn't want me taking up a lane by myself for 2 hrs just to bowl 3 games. As much as I love bowling, I don't want to be in the center for that long when practicing. It's also pretty sad that league night takes 3 hrs to bowl 3 games, but that's a totally different topic.
@bowlnow8245 ай бұрын
I agree. I have to do the same thing. I normally if I catch myself rushing I take a break or walk around a little bit
@yankeesrule58714 күн бұрын
during practice i can bowl 6-7 games in 2 hours. But yea im 53 , i practice to stay loose. i do amazing in practice , but it rarely carries over. My teammate said its either pressure , or pace of play. But like you said , its hard to slow down when you're on a time limit, well i am at least , lots of times i get to the lanes and got about 2 hours to practice because a league is coming in

6:41 how do you use those tools effectively? I have that exact same football but I'm not sure if I am practicing the correct motion.

For me I bowl on old wood lanes and on the burn . And I sucked playing straight so I took my plastic ball the Geico viz-a-ball and I sanded it and I now love playing straight. Me now I absolutely suck playing deep. So thank you for this video and tips. Now I can know what I need to focus on in my game to get good enough to go on the pba tour. It has always been a dream of mine to go on tour and have a sponsor.

Thank you for the video! I will be bringing a notepad the next time I practice and focusing on my weaknesses rather than strengths. I also need a football now, that's great practice for home.

so fricken true I've seen so many two handers only play the same line over and over again hooking the entire lane for no reason... I literally come in to practice with the mindset of where am I going to play today aha I literally try new/different angles, more/less revs, axis rotation, speed to the point where I can pick what I want to do in the moment at any point in time during a game especially depending on the lanes/balls reactions. Made me go from bowling 120-130 my first month to being a 200+ average bowler within 6-7 months. My highest game so far has been a 268 on a league pattern after taking off like 1-2 months of bowling. Also have days where I go in telling myself I'm not throwing a single strike shot purposely only setting up for spare practice and that mentality caused me to hit nearly 75-100% of my spares during real games. I also don't bowl vary often I used to go once or twice a week for my first few months as of lately I rarely even go once a week and still average 200+. My main thing that helped me was warming up in practice throwing at less speed less power until I felt comfortable to give it my 80-100%.

Awesome video! What I took away from this video was note taking. We all have phones and note apps. I'm going to use this with my targeting drills and keep track of my feet, drift, dot and if we have a range finder. I bet that will work better than "yeah that hit the arrows". keep up the good work

I'm trying to take more notes, both in practice and in league. Tried on my phone, but didn't like it. Got a cheapo notebook just for bowling and keep it in my bag. I think it helps but ymmv

Andrew, I appreciate you saying enjoy the strikes. I do everyone I throw. And taking notes, I was doing this for a while, then stopped. Should start again to your suggestion. And not worry bowling for score in practice. What you suggest in my 1 handed game, to my 2 handed game in average 20 pins different. In only bowling 2 handed for a month? Mainly throwing the original Motiv Pride, and the OG Venom Shock. And the Tank Yellow Jacket for my spares.

This is a huge thing that everyone should do - grab a cheap tripod and phone mount off Amazon and record yourself. You may feel like you're rolling perfectly but actually be doing something bad, and having it on video lets you get a second opinion if needed.

Lay out towels on your left side so you feel If you drift. You don’t need a ball to practice this type of footwork. Post each shot.

9:10 I'm a fan of Andrew, but this is wrong. It's slowly being proven that if you do it wrong, sliding causes MORE injury than planting. If you slide more than we'll say 2-3 inches before throwing, it puts more pressure on your knee than planting does. And guess what? Over 90% of bowlers (at all levels)? Slide longer than 2-3 inches. Sliding sucks.
