So, it's like 2003. I never heard of Opeth. I went to the last CD store in existence and went through the metal selection. I picked up Blackwater Park on a whim, asked the guy at the counter about it. He told me and I'll never forget this, " it's supposed to be like Alice in Chains with death growls." I figure what the hell and bought it. Took it home and put it in to listen to while I did some around the house type stuff. I wasn't paying too much attention to it but liking it until I hit Harvest. That grabbed my attention, sat down to listen to it more carefully. Then Drapery Falls came on and I was pretty much a fan instantly. It is still my favorite song by them.with Ghost of Perdition as a close second. Drapery Falls is peak Opeth.

Mike, I hope to see Harlequin Forest on this list. Holy molly, this is by far my favorite Opeth song. It is written so well, it feels like a coherent story from start to finish! Nothing to add, nothing to remove, and those riffs! Also, I think that Moonlapse Vertigo is Opeth's most underrated song. That riff after the first soft section is my favorite Opeth riff. And the song as a whole feels like a story. You should critique that song Mike for sure!
@Ursaokkkk Жыл бұрын
I interpret this song like this: The intro is a representation of a really big emotional pain, and sounds kind of conformity too, like, accepiting the pain. Before that transitionary riff, where comes the acoustic sections and all the rest of the song, is like a context to why this person is feeling all that emotional pain. Near the end, when the intro comes back, being the outro, is like a movie plot twist for me, it feels just like that, now we know why this feeling is inside this person. And i think that this song may represents the feeling of conformity pain, seeking the sadness for fullfill emptyness. The intro sounds dark and sad, but still relaxing and welcoming, and at that little explosion on the acoustic part you get the lyrics: "Take me down again and guide me into pain". Such a beautiful, meaningful, and fantastic song. Sorry for my bad english ;)

Hi Mike :-) Firstly, thank you very much for these series. I have been listening to Opeth since 2009 and this is my favourite Opeth song (it´s emotional and atmospheric masterpiece). My favourite Opeth albums are Blackwater Park (my fav album ever), Still Life, Watershed (really underrated album), Ghost Reveries and Damnation (I also really enjoy In Cauda Venenum from newer ones and don´t care too much for first two albums and Sorceress). For me, albums from Still Life to Watershed are all 9 out of 10 at least. That´s why Opeth is my favourite band for more than thirteen years.
