The difference is it appears Phil isn't being malicious, which is to say he isn't planning any of this or even cognitively aware his actions are causing harm (or even hypocritical). I don't think Phil should be so easily forgiven - and in fact people not forgiving him might just the wake up call he needs - but it at least seems Phil firmly believes everything he's doing is rational and without moral issue, which cannot be said for people like the Tickled Man. Of course, hurting people through stupidity is still hurting people. But when Rich and others are so used to dealing with individuals like QTV, the bar is set so low that Phil's harm just being from ignorance instead of malevolence is a breath of fresh air.

Playing devils advocate here, but if someone that I didn't like tried to offer me a free PC, I'd have 21 questions about it, and even if they were all answered, I still probably wouldn't accept it. I don't think Phil is a very reasonable guy, but it shouldn't be that weird that he didn't trust accepting a gift from someone he didn't like.

DSP requires a one-page, single-spaced apology emailed to his 'business' email describing what you did, describing why what you did was bad, and concluding with a promise you'll never do it again. The body of the essay should demonstrate an understanding of how you concretely caused harm and un-positivitity in his otherwise chill and positive stream/life. It must be genuine and heart-felt - if Phil feels the apology is not genuine he will not accept it. And positive interaction with the email is encouraged; if you have the option of how to positively interact, he prefers TIPS, dood!

It is funny but I guess it is sad as well. Addictions are addictions, and although purely behavioral ones aren't as well understood or easy for the average person to relate to as, say, drug addiction with physical dependence, these gambling things can be just as addictive for some people and cause just as much problems for them as a drug addiction. I've known a few addicts in my day (drugs and alcohol) and the worse of them didn't come close to spending what Phil does - and he was buying drugs! Phil would be very financially well-off, with a good income and a paid-off house and car and could have covered his debts and everything...but every extra cent that goes beyond the bare minimum of what he needs to pay for (mortgage, car payment, monthly stuff like that) goes to the games. He could make a million dollars a year and he'd be in the same place because it doesn't matter how much he makes - anything and everything after 'bills' and minimum obligations goes to Hogan. And that is textbook addict behavior and someone with a healthy relationship with gambling wouldn't dream of convincing themself that that is normal.

Phil is a genuinely bad person. He knowingly puts his gacha expenses on his bankruptcy papers and taxes as business expenses, despite the fact that he's only playing those games in his personal time. His massive ego and unwillingness to admit his trolls got something right is directly causing him to submit information fraudulently. I agree with everything you wrote about Pigroach, but I don’t think there’s anything illegal about using those expenses. I could be wrong, but from what I understand it’s a personal bankruptcy. These debts do not have to have any connection to the business. They are all personal obligations that he’s asking forgiveness from. I’ve also heard people make a similar argument that he’s using these gacha game expenses as a tax write off, listing them as a business expense (I think this is what you meant btw). While we both know (as well as the entire internet) those games have absolutely nothing to do with DSP gaming and he’s playing them off camera in his personal time. Any decent tax attorney would get them left in as viable business expenses. I’m not a tax atty or an accountant, but I have quite a bit of experience working with them and filing extensive returns. We know Phil is the worst, but the Federal Govt can’t treat him like the pigroach he is, they treat him like a social security number. He would only have to argue that the business includes analysis and commentary on video games of all kinds and those expenses are related to research required to stay informed in his field. The IRS wouldn’t be wrong if they challenged most (if not the great majority) of the gacha expenses, and they might even win in court, but they’d never challenge it once a CPA (let alone a lawyer) stands behind it. It’s just not cost effective.

I do appreciate the thoughts though and I know that they wouldn't bother going against him because of how convoluted his expenses are. The grey area and the part where Phil IS lying is that he wants to both have the cover-up of his expenses but also the benefit. Other gacha hounds like Tectone also get to put their expenses on taxes and that's perfectly fine, but they also have to be self-aware of the spending. Phil is proof positive that some people never mentally leave high school. He has the attitude of the teens I used to give feedback and pointers to on deviantART back in the day (I'm an illustrator for a living) because I thought they had a ton of promise and potential to their work, so I'd tell them several positive things about their work and then one, MAYBE two things they could improve on along with resources and pointers on how to do so in order to grow. It was usually a 50/50 split of them either REALLY REALLY appreciating it and asking me to give them feedback on some other stuff in their gallery, or they'd breathe fire at me for being a hater who was just jealous of their high school level skills as a professional artist. I eventually gave up entirely, and that kind of sucks because some people DO want that constructive feedback because they WANT to get better at their craft. Guess which one Phil is.

And, of course, he was doing this in an era when people like AVGN and whatnot dominated the scene with a sort of stand-up bit format. Also I believe Phil does at least periodically still do reviews and play-streams in which he tries to do improv and whatnot between his "call-outs". So, functionally, DSP is not doing anything particularly creative anymore. But he at least thinks he is, and is trying to.

I don’t think KZbin demonetizes any channel for explicit language. They can of course, they demonetize channels all the time for reflecting completely appropriate opinions on several political issues (opinions 60+% of the country agree with). I’ve never seen them demonetize over vulgar language, but they certainly do age restrict channels because of that. If Pigroach isn’t age restricted, no channel should be age restricted. His content is definitely geared toward a five to ten year old mentality, just judging by the games he plays most often. Kids (and his dents) would be the only ones naive enough to believe this guy has an unforeseen financial apocalypse approaching twice a week

Which is why DSP hates Rich so much. Rich is the prime example of the "good ending" scenario that Phil could have had but self-sabotaged himself out of. Every day that Rich is doing well is a a day that Phil is basically forced to stare in a mirror and remember: "It didn't have to turn out the way it has. I could have done so much better." Of course, it's not too late for Phil. He could easily still turn his life around - it isn't like there was some self-betterment cutoff period in 2015. But Phil doesn't want to, he finds instant-gratification too good to give up (which is why he has a gambling problem.) So Rich isn't just what he could have been - Rich is a reminder that DSP's doing this all to himself.

I am older than Phil and admit to being sucked into this DSP/ Wings toilet flush. It's just fascinating and nauseating to see them in real time with issues you can only find in college text books. I just returned from a year long fact finding mission in a area where life especially among children is really tough. Carved wooden toys, sticks, many working 18 hr days. On my return and checking in on these clowns, the true insanity of grown "men" going back and forth over issues so incredibly, mind numbingly unimportant is truly hard to fathom. I can only imagine the look on one of the children's face with tears running down it if I tried to explain to them a grown man "DSP" who spends more on one WWE pull for a oiled up man's JPEG than he will see in years. The other "Wings" A 500 "man" with a one time caloric intake larger than they see in 6 months who CRIES and rages over losing a video game. F..ing incredible.
