Today, we have quite the Karen freakout. A Karen freakout you've never seen before I can almost guarantee. This woman makes a big scene in a Subway over her sandwich and, um, pepper being used as an ingredient. Yeah, I don't understand it either.

I’m on the spectrum and she reminds me of a lot of the kids I saw in my speech and physical therapy classes who were way more severe than me, very monotone way of speaking, not a lot of facial expressions, inability to communicate, extreme pickiness, and all the odd questions all gave me flashbacks. Hope she gets better

As a teacher with most of my experience in special education, my first thought was that she was on the spectrum. Mainly because of her issues with social cues, peculiarities with food, and questions that could come across as rude or condescending, but are probably legitimate in her mind. Also, the flat tone of voice and facial expressions. Most "Karens" are belligerent, while this woman just seemed to struggle a bit with what could be a new store/experience and the social interactions required

Someone on the spectrum(albeit way not as severe) here, I thought so entirely as well. First thing I thought was, wow, I feel bad for all parties involved. The food service workers for dealing with her, and her for having to probably deal with awkward experiences on a daily basis

As a former food service employee, I can tell you.. these people that demand 5 star absolute perfection for their 5 dollar sandwich are scary common.. also 99 percent of food service employees wash their hands more times in a day than you do all month.. so if anything nasty is getting on your food, it's more likely from you.

As someone on the spectrum the first thing I thought was that she might be too. The way she speaks so monotone, the misunderstanding of social cues, etc. And honestly this is a big fear of mine. That my strange behaviours are misunderstood and this way and suddenly the whole internet is laughing at me or something cuz someone posted it calling me a Karen or something. Because I've seen it happen a few times and it scares me a little. I know I'm not as .. "weird" as this woman but it's still a thing I think about. Edit I just read another comment explaining that this woman apparently has OCD, not autism or anything like that, and she is just a difficult person. Alright

I swear one of the item on my "If I was a billionaire tomorrow" list is opening shops and making it the "corporate rule" that anyone, even the non-manager position, has the right to chose to refuse service and to respond as they please to a Karen. Managers and shop owners that would chose to ignore this rule or to berate an employee for enforcing it would either be fired or demoted. That and paying everybody a good wage.

"It's like she's trying to will her ideal subway experience into existence". Yes, that is what she could be doing. I have clients like this. They are barely able to cope with social interaction. It scares them. These are not so much demands of the staff as voiced self-reassurances. Her voice is monotonous and not raised. She is trying to make sense of and cope with what's happening. The staff are doing a brilliant job and showing great patience. Well done them.

She is just extremely OCD and very very difficult to deal with all the time. So, no . It's not a spectrum thing. It's a case of a highly OCD person going out to eat when clearly being as picky as she is, she should be buying food to make at home. Her own family said she's extremely difficult in all aspects. I tried to find the video where that came out, but my google skills failed me. God, it had to be 8 to 10 years ago now that this happened.

I once had a Karen like this at my register at a hardware store. I told her that I was denying her service and please go. She said "I am the customer, I am always right". I said, "No, right now I am." I'd rather upset you, than the 8 people behind you that are as frustrated with you as I am. They applauded when she did the walk of shame out the door.

She lives in Canada now with her parents and can't look after herself or work. She volunteers to wrap gifts on occasion that's it. This lady is abit better than her but not by much.
