I just learned this because I don't want to die (heart attack or something). I haven't jumped into a pool in 15 years! I am now much older (middle-aged), much heavier, and in a terrible health condition after some horrible illnesses and a surgery... I want to be more healthy by doing exercises without risking my aching knees and ankles. 😊❤ Wish me luck tonight!

Love this one. Just coming back from a shoulder injury and I will definitely incorporate these. Thank you again!

There are 2 types of swimmers, some like me do a dry land warmup because we learned the hard way, and the rest are still waiting to have a shoulder injury to start doing it.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOL that was me in December. I’m not making that mistake again. In fact it forced me to move towards bi-lateral breathing as well as warm ups

I'm back to swimming after a long time, as a 58y.o I feel the benefits are huge, but I aim the recovery of a knee, thanks for this presentation.

I have found that doing a short run (maybe a km) ten minutes before the race start, to get heart rate up, reduces breathlessness in the first minute or two.

Can you go back to freestyle swimming after arthroscopy of right shoulder for Rotator Cuff muscle tear

1:58 “Swing to hug?” Excuse me, I think you mean The Michael Phelps Stretch >:V In all seriousness, though, I saw a lot here that looks familiar from my OWN pre-swim warmups, and a lot that I’ll likely start incorporating-excellent info all around!

I tried this today. It was much harder in a wetsuit. Definitely need to do this a minimum of 20 minutes before going in the water or alternatively without the swimsuit. Probably not an issue in a tri-suit though.

Instead of dry warm-up, can you just swim slow for a while?
@gtn10 ай бұрын
You can, but that's not going to give you the extension that some of these stretches do. Ideally, you'd incorporate both into your warm up.

My first triathlon. Everybody was warming up. In the water. And then I didn't hear the horn to go to the start line. There were a couple thousand people. I turned around. And saw everybody on the shore getting ready to start the swim and I was about 30 yards off. So started coming back to shore and then they started the race. When I realized what happened was happening I got turned around just as all the most aggressive swimmers started swimming on top of me then I was getting pushed down into the water and just beaten down until the swimmer's passed me basically struggling for survival and then swam the swim.

That sounds horrible! Have you done a triathlon after? We hope this didn't put you off? 👀

@@gtnfirst let me say I appreciate the dry land tips. I coach swimming 8 to 15-year-olds, and they always complain that they have to do dry land. So this gives me a reason to explain it differently to them. As far as triathlons go, I'm more of a sprinter in running. So I didn't really want to run distance anymore. But I am a bicycle raceer also and raced bicycles for 12 years and have been to three national championships in criterium and road racing. And I'm also a competitive swimmer so I still compete in swimming. I like butterfly. I M. I've done a bunch of open water swims since then. Like the peer to pier swim in Hermosa Beach. Was training for the Maui channel swim and was putting in some really good open water distance but found out it was going to cost me $15,000 just to rent a boat to follow me for the cost was prohibitive. Ironically, since then I started playing water polo and became a lifeguard. Yeah the triathlon wasn't fun but sometimes racing isn't fun it's painful. Thanks for the response.

That's a great story to tell at a bar - of course after the horror of it wears off 😂
