I think that's good advice going well in hand with not thinking about imaginary situations, especially of the past or the future. I just recently started living in the moment and was very guilty of always thinking about the future, be it the next activity, next day, next year.

Good reminder. I am still guilty of that!

I do this a lot. I also like to go on a walk and touch a different tree each time in the park. I'll pick one and just go look at it for a few min and it does take you out of all the buzzz of life.

That's awesome Chaz! I'm sure the trees appreciate it too!

I love this! This is very similar to how I used to live my life! I guess it was all a search for presence and novelty.

Beautiful. Are you a visual artist by any chance because I feel like that's how artists see the world.

This reminds me of a couple places/moments - The view from the bank drive-thru, facing the road I use to pass the bank every morning, sitting for a bit and watching the traffic. And going to an estate sale on my parent's street, inside a house we've passed countless times, and seeing their view of the street from inside.

That's so cool, thanks for sharing! These are exactly the type of perspective shift I am talking about.

There is a finite amount of new (easily accessible and easily identifiable) spaces but an infinite amount of present moments. This could be fun to try out and maybe it could be an incredble experience beyond what we might expect, but this seems far from practical. Not to mention, the thinking power it would take to figure out each new space would become increasingly difficult, and frustrating, just to enjoy a single moment. I'd much rather a "good enough" method for living in the moment that was reliable and practical, than a perfect method for living in the moment such as this. Luckily, I've gotten better at the good enough on my own, after a mental health breakthrough, and the last 4 months of my life felt much longer and richer than any other 4 months beforehand, including childhood. This is still an interesting method and concept for living in the moment, but I don't see how it will ever top mental health management.

Thanks for such a thoughtful comment! It's inspiring to hear of your recent breakthrough and the richness you describe which is a hallmark of true connection. You're right -- the technique described would not be practical to use every day. It's more of a single-use tool intended to quite literally create a perspective shift. I agree with you that mental health management is fundamental.

@Charles444 That makes a ton of sense, thank you for elaborating and confirming. :)

@@Charles444 nah I see it differently. There are underlying reasons for not being in the moment. Fix those mental-emotional reasons. With healing work etc. It can be because of other reasons too ofc, but mostly those, I suppose. You might even considern Self-Realization (or whatever u wanna call it) such a thing too, although that would ofc not jive with certain traditions their understanding of the phenomenon.

@@JorisWeima You're right, it's necessary to ultimately address root cause(s)
