@Lassi Kinnunen re every way of making ice cream is difficult. - - "not so fast" Last night we unearthed a "freeze it in advance" cup for making a half-pint of ice cream with box and recipes. The recipe for orange sherbet was orange juice. Full Stop. That can't be difficult. ( History note: Full Stop as an expression came from some old days of telegraphs with no punctuation. ( I don't know why..) - Stop meant end of sentence. - Full Stop meant end of message.

He did say “easiest”, not cheapest. If you want the cheapest, you literally have to just leave the custard in the bowl, put in the freezer, and take it out after like 15 or 30 minutes (I forgot), and stir it really well. Then you have to keep repeating that until it’s the consistency of soft serve. It takes like WAY more work and time, but it’s cheaper.

You're living in a food fantasy world that only exists in your head, and definitely doesn't exist in your first apartment. Let us all know how creative you got with your raman noodles and chili-mac. You might be able to afford having people over for BBQ chicken & PBR (or a PBRBQ as it's known around here) once they've served you with your eviction notice. You weren't going to get your deposit back anyway, and having all your friends at your party makes moving out a lot faster. Welcome to reality, be careful, it's known bite.

Karpa Koi Use a bowl surrounded in ice (big bowl plus smaller bowl). Put salt on the ice, which actually makes it colder, and stir the ice cream mix until the consistency is to your liking. It will take a while, and you will have arms of steel by the time you finish, but it works. You can also use two differently sized bags, with the same overall principle. This time, you’d knead the bags rather than stirring until the mix reaches a consistency to your liking.

I'm gonna make this but I'm gonna use the 2 bowls method, no special machinery needed basically grab the biggest bowl/pot you have, a bowl or pot about half the size, put those in the freezer for about 10 minutes, fill the big bowl about halfway with ice, dump a bunch of salt in there, eyeball about 1 part salt to 4 parts ice, nestle your smaller bowl in there and pour in your cooled down custard and beat with a hand mixer for about 7-10 minutes, then cover with plastic wrap and the whole rig goes into the freezer for about an hour, take it out and either eat it as soft serve or beat with the mixer for a couple minutes till you see the ice cream melt a bit, put all the ice cream in a container then cover it and freeze it for at least 24 hours

Made a no-machine, peppermint variation of this and it was awesome! For the flavoring, I skipped the steeping step, heated the milk/cream/sugar, tempered the eggs, added the tempered egg mixture to the hot stuff, and then made the custard. Once thickened, I strained it into the cold cream in the ice bath per Josh’s instructions, then mixed in about 2 tsp vanilla and 3 crushed candy canes. For freezing without a machine, I added 1/2 c salt to the ice water in the ice bath, stirred for 10 minutes, let rest in the freezer for 30 minutes, and repeated the 10-minute stir/30-minute freeze 4 times. After the last stir session when the ice cream was a loose soft serve consistency, I put it in a ~1 qt storage container and let freeze for about 6 hours, mixing at around 4 hours to incorporate the more- and less-frozen parts.
