A few fun facts: 1) Eren didn't open his eyes during rumbling, he opened his eyes in his last breath just to see Mikasa 2) Mikasa wrote “Here forever rest peacefully, my most beloved, my dear. 854” on Eren’s grave. The first two times Mikasa visits Eren’s grave she put four roses which means nothing will come between two people who love each other but cannot be together / tragic love. The last time she put one rose which means “you are still THE one". 3)A white flower was placed during her death, which symbolizes purity and virginity. So, taken together, Mikasa's flowers send the message that she won't forget Eren, she still loves him (but believes he can no longer love her back), she will remain devoted to him, and she is waiting. 4)They spent 4 years living together in Paths (ch. 138) And only when he “passed away” there, was she able to kill him in the real world. (it was a gift to them from Ymir) 5)In the ending credits where Eren and Mikasa were buried, an old man Armin still visiting their graves. He was the last to die from the trio, just like when they were kids running to the tree, he was the last one who reaches the tree.

28:15 Bit of an essay coming in but interestingly enough, this last 3D Maneuver gear scene was animated by an animator named Arifumi Imai. Imai was one of the Action Animation Directors of the first 3 seasons of Attack on Titan (produced by Wit Studio). He was the one who pioneered and popularised 3D maneuver gear action animation. In fact, the very first ODM gear scene in the very first episode of Attack on Titan was animated by him. Some of the most notable scenes he's animated are Armored Titan (Reiner) breaking the wall in Episode 2, Levi vs Annie in Season 1, Hange and Squad fighting the Colossal Titan in Season 2, Levi vs Kenny Squad in Season 3 Part 1 and Levi vs Beast Titan in Season 3 Part 2. It's very much fitting and in a way poetic that the man who started the era of breathtaking 3D Maneuver gear animation was brought back to close things off on the highest note possible. He took to Twitter yesterday to express his thoughts on it: "I participated in the final episode of the Attack on Titan anime with storyboards and original drawings!! I was in charge of Levi and Mikasa's 3D maneuvers until Eren slowly closes his eyes. I was really happy to be able to draw these three people again at the very end. 3D maneuver gear action was so much fun that I wanted to draw it for the rest of my life, but it was also a lot of work... 10 years have passed since the anime Attack on Titan started in 2013. When I finished the WIT version, I felt burnt out for a while, lol, but being able to work on the MAPPA version of Attack on Titan at the very end was a job that will be etched in my memories. Once again, I would like to thank everyone in each section for their hard work. Once again, thank you very much to everyone in the Attack on Titan anime team for your hard work!!"

I dont think thats the message at all. What i think is: the Titans were not the root cause of the problems and conflicts, but rather the violence of humanity.. To expand it, humans start violence hence conflict hence war. The post credit proved that the titans were never the real cause, even if they gone the humans managed to bring destruction. No matter how long the peace lasts, there will be the time it breaks, bc violence is a human nature. You can never get rid of that cycle. And if we never learn from the past mistakes, history is bound to repeat itself. Feel free to say what you think. Edit: theres so many messages you could get from this show. To summarize it, the most obvious: 1. Dont give power to idiots 2. Do not be racist, xenophobic, etc 3. Fear is something you should overcome and never let it drive you 4. Learn from past mistakes, forgive and never forget but move on. 5. Dont let the kids be involved 6. Communicate And more

Mikasa’s ending is full of interpretations/vagueness. As we see her visiting with a guy that has a blurred face and a kid, which many assumed it’s Jean. But here are the reasons why she didn’t marry him: 1. Scarf - she kept it until death meaning she couldn’t let go and would love him till the end. This is her engagement ring as the voice actor of Armin said. 2. Azumabito mark - though not shown in the anime, she died with the mark. Her mom told her to pass it down to her kids. Why did Mikasa keep it? 3. Orphanage - in the short stories by Isayama, there’s a conversation of Historia&Mikasa which gave us a clue that Mikasa might work in the orphanage. 4. Shawl - only Historia wears a shawl. We see Mikasa wearing a shawl which meant she might be working there and adopted a kid eventually. 5. EMA - THIS ONE IS VERY IMPORTANT it’s always been Eren, Mikasa, Armin from the start to finish. We started with Eren, Mikasa, Armin running to the tree and to end it with Jean & Mikasa scenes/panels DON’T make sense at all. It’s not Isayama-like, the god of parallels. 6. Hairstyle - armin had the same hairstyle as Jean in isayama’s sketches 7. When Eren told her to forget him and throw away the scarf when he dies, she said “she can’t.” And she stayed true to this until her death. 8. Eren’s grave- the translation of the words in his grave is “here forever, resting peacefully, my most beloved.” At the end of her life, she was buried next to him. If that’s not love, what is? 9. The child - back to the orphanage talk, mikasa is an orphan herself, it would make sense that she helps Historia and eventually adopts a kid. She knows what it’s like to be an orphan. For her to become a family to an orphan connects back to what Eren did for her. 10. Flowers - notice how she’s surrounded by different colors of flowers - each color means something for each flower. Some people say there’s white lilies which symbolize purity. Some say it’s a bunch of different colors of roses like for example white roses. White roses means a “new beginning” (in Japanese culture) but in other cultures it means “purity” “mourning” etc. There are other flowers which I’m not sure what they are. 11. The Ring - (THIS IS ANIME ONLY SINCE THERE’S NOTHING LIKE THAT IN THE MANGA) wedding rings are worn on the left hand, and so are Chastity rings. I feel like I don’t need to explain what chastity rings are. The wedding ring she wore doesn’t actually tell us she married Jean as this might’ve symbolize her love and commitment for Eren forever. “Till death to us part” as they say, and she did love him till her last breathe. 12. The ending song “Itterashai by Ai Higuchi”- The lyrics is literally a love letter for Eren. It sings about her longing and desire to see and be with him again. Also, the visuals showed us their reunification in the afterlife. How so? The music video starts with Mikasa alone and jumps in the water to show that she’s six feet under. Next we see her floating above the water with her eyes close, SURROUNDED BY FLOWERS. In her burial, she is surrounded by flowers. And then, we see her spending time with Eren, implying that she’s dreaming. At the end of the video, we see her open her eyes, and voila! Eren is holding her hands and there’s a butterfly. In Japanese culture, butterflies are a symbol of “resurrection, rebirth, and the triumph of spirit and soul over a physical prison.” The ending song literally showed us that Mikasa only loved Eren until the end of her life. This makes me believe that she didn’t marry anyone. Whether she got married or not, it’s a fact that Mikasa stayed in love with Eren until the end. I feel like many people see her love as a chain binding her down after her death. She’s a slave to her love for Eren as they say. But I feel differently, loving Eren is her way of expressing freedom. When Eren told her to forget him and be free and said that she can’t. She chose that decision herself. It is her own free-will to remember and continue to long for him. Because she knew they would meet again someday hence “See You Later.” As I said, it’s full of interpretations. Therefore my interpretation of Mikasa being with Jean (which I think is Armin) is “What if Jean is only looking out for her?” A lot of people overlook this question.

The ending was a perfect portrayal of reality, war will never end, there will always be a conflict, even if one side gets completely wiped out, in a few centuries, there will be a evil person born who want to control the world and cause chaos, But that does not mean you should give up trying to stop it, even if nothing changes, even if its meaningless, You have to fight, fight for the present, fight for your future, it doesnt matter whats the result, what matters is the present time you live in, dont lose hope just because its impossible to end wars, just fight and move forward, Thats what Eren's "TATAKAE" meant, it didnt meant to wipe people or cause a genocide but "TATAKAE" because you are free. Honestly with whats happening around the world right now, this episode got released at the best time possible
Some of the complaints about the ending were about how Eren cries with Armin over Mikasa. Personally I loved that scene, we forgot this fourth season that he is a teenager who was forced to abandon everything to save his friends , that scene showed us that he was always there only that he was forced to perform certain acts in pursuit of a benefit. He would have abandoned everything to live with Mikasa, unfortunately that was not the way to end it all
@Lunafroyo Жыл бұрын
Exactly, I never got why people thought Eren was “pathetic” for crying over Mikasa. Is the guy not allowed to feel things? I’m sure if we were dying our thoughts would be about how we want the love of our lives to always remember us only and the possibility of them finding another kills us. It was so human of him and my heart broke for Eren in that moment. One of my favourite scenes honestly.

I really like the whole Okapi arguing between Annie and Mikasa, since Okapis were a common animal in Africa so they're normal to her but Mikasa is like "What the hell is that?", also confirming that in AOT Marley is located in Africa. Btw, in the end we see ground troops attacking the city so probably at some point Eldia was split in two again and the bombing of Shiganshina occurs when the city is apparently already in ruins (Ironic that this is very similar to something we're living today). Isayama did not apologize for the ending. He said he knew there were people who didn't like the ending so he apolozied if it didn't meet their expectations. That's a different thing. That's a polite "sorry but that's the way it is." In a more recent interview he said that is how it was always meant to end. There were no big changes to the anime ending, only expanding on some acenes. Like making it clear Armin was trying to help take some of the burden off Eren by taking aome of the blame on himself. He's not justifying him.

Amazing ending, what's more amazing I'm gonna blow your mind guys, when the credits were rolling and the tree shot going through the seasons, we see 7 years go by after the 3 years jump, that makes it 10 years. Then you can see Mikasa visit Eren with a man and a child in her arms. 10 years was the period Eren wanted Mikasa to grieve his death. We don't know if that man is her husband, or that kid is hers or she just adopted him, no confirmation whatsover. Then you can see Mikasa dying of old age ( wrinkles on her hands ), buried next to Eren and old Armin visiting them. The credits scene is so amazing you have to see it. One theory says that Mikasa did marry someone and had a child but only after the 10 years of grief, you can see she's wearing a ring in her left hand when they show her burial. Others say that's the ring of virginity and she's wearing white to show she died a virgin, Isayama didn't confirm anything. Another thing, aot ends at chapter 139, 140 in japanese is a symbol of freedom, meaning that Eren was never free in the entire manga, but only after he dies.

Thankyou for the great reaction! Actually, as a Japanese manga reader, Isayama changed the conversation between Eren and Armin. In the manga, there were less words and expresses from them, which gave people misunderstanding of what he wanted to say. He was even apologizing about his lack of expression. So in anime, he made the conversation longer and changed many words to let everyone know what intentions he had. I think it's amazing change. I love this version so much too. I hope you can see what happened. Thank you for your amazing reaction again.

In the Japanese consideration, that boy and his dog represent the Fool of Tarot cards. The positive position of the Tarot card "The Fool" represents freedom. If it is in reverse position, you may be irresponsible. Details of this card are below. The Fool is a card that represents the freedom to move as one dreams, without any restraints. It depicts a young man walking with only hope in his heart under a bright and clear sky with the sun shining brightly. However, the young man is unaware that there is a cliff at his feet. He seems unconcerned by the presence of a dog that barks to warn him of danger. ...... Who knows what will happen to the young man in the future?

The most changing part from manga is that Eren admited those " protect my buddy"shit is self-deceiving. Deep inside his heart he just want to destroy everything ,not for anybody but himself.Because what outside the wall made him really dispointed.

I like the ending, it was a good ending for me because it was realistic, perfect way to end a masterpiece. The ending with all the wars is basically telling us that the Titans power never a problem, it was human all along. The part where Mikasa cries at the end is heartbreaking 😔

So many people can’t understand why his chose this path but it was the only path available to get what he wanted- his friends to live peacefully. He saw this future as a young person all simultaneously so he lost his mind. Things like Hange and Sasha dying only confirmed to him that he had to use the rumbling as a way to grant safety for his friends.

The ending of the manga was great. The anime was even better. However, I was surprised at the arrogance of those complaining about the ending of the manga, especially those overseas. Some of them even signed petitions to change the ending. Do they have the brains to write a genius story like Isayama? They are really shallow and arrogant. Such people do not understand the essence of AOT. I can only thank Isayama for teaching us such human folly.

I think that those who are disappointed by the end of "Progress" and think, "In the end, the war repeats itself...what the characters did was meaningless..." are rather close to what Isayama-sensei intended. However, it is not to dismiss reality as such, I think that is also his intention. I think that the story of the march is a story that expresses the foolishness of conflict and denies the slaughter, although it is not in a general way.

This entire series was a masterpiece. The ending was kept the same as the manga which I’m pleased about. They just changed some of the dialogue when armin and Eren were talking. It has the same meaning but is just phrased differently and they added a couple of scenes in to give more context to it but otherwise it was pretty much identical to the manga. I cried for about 80% of this episode and I’m so pleased it is getting a mostly positive reception especially since Isayama was receiving death threats when the manga was released. He deserves all of the praise for this series.

What I think is interesting about Eren is that he is a *twisted* character. He admits that he also had a childish and selfish curiousity to see the aftermath of the rumbling. It wasn't just for the sake of his people as martyr. Hence why he was depicted as a kid yelling "freedom" to contrast the cruelty of genocide shown. A slave to freedom as he said. That was a root of why he did what he did too when Armin asked him more about it. Makes for an interesting character study. You can empathize with some aspects of Eren, though also have to acknowledge the darker morality of it too.

At the end it shows a timelapse, i recommend you looking at the time lapse and looking at almost every frame because it has a lot to them! For example, theres a frame where it shows somebody whos probably mikasa holding a baby next to a male which is probably jean walking from erens grave. And another frame where it shows that when mikasa dies her grave is next to eren’s grave and it shows that armin is there visiting them. This goes back to when armin says that eren is always the first one that reaches the tree, then mikasa, and then armin being last. I cried so much on this finale!! Thank you guys and Isayama for the Journey.❤‼️
