About the deleting of Soong's data, any fool these days with data that important will have backups made daily to an external backup that is disconnected completely from the network once the backup is completed. We call that establishing an air gap. I do it myself and rotate through multiple external terabyte sized USB drives. I even carry one in my handbag at all times just in case. With the sensitive data in 256 bit encrypted vaults. I'm a 70 year old retired electronics engineer and I still have all the data created on my first PC in 1985 and everything since then. So let me guess, he was dumb enough to totally trust cloud storage? From a single provider! While the deletion is pretty well essential to the story, this is a fail that even the most inexperienced system administrator in 1985 knew better than to allow happen.
@riopato2009
@riopato2009 2 жыл бұрын
Maybe that's why Soong couldn't exactly get his work right and created so many versions of his "daughter". Every time his drive corrupted, he had to start from scratch. LOL. Something this important, one would think he would at least have hard copy documentation of his experiments. I still printout my tax returns every year as an analog record, yet this dummy didn't keep a summary printout of his successful results? Why would he even have documents on his genetic enhancement project that created Khan? Also why would he call it Project Khan anyway? Khan was just one result to multiple different test subjects. Were all of those super humans all called Khan?
@dmfraser1444
@dmfraser1444 2 жыл бұрын
@Les Bravo Any sensible sys admin will have backups that are not connected to the network. What we call air gapped backup on a drive that is unplugged from the network cannot be deleted remotely. Because there is simply no way to access it. My multiple backups cannot be deleted and with my rotation a total loss of what is accessible would set me back never more than a week. I also swap out a backup,in my safety deposit box every 2-3 months. This is a system I picked up from people administering banks and government systems. Whoever set up his computer systems that vulnerable deserves a pat on the cheek from Dr Soong. This is security 101 stuff dating back to the earliest days of computing. The whole bit was so we could see that Soong was involved in the Khan project and I assume the Eugenics wars to come. But the premise used was incorrect. In something this critical he could have spent a few hundred dollars buying a half dozen USB hard drives. The project budget would have not even noticed.

Soong's 'Data'.... lol I see what you did there
@SoranoGuardias
@SoranoGuardias 2 жыл бұрын
@@dmfraser1444 Adam Soong's research was illegal. Following the end of the Eugenics Wars that largely took place in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, the world's nations signed the Shenzhen Eugenics Accords basically outlawing any research into artificially created or augmented humans. If anyone where to find out exactly what he was doing, and how many "failed" children he had, he would have been arrested and possibly executed. Storing that data external to his lab would increase that risk significantly, so it makes sense for such secretive research to be in one place. And who knows, maybe Koree discovered when his backup systems where scheduled to come online and chose that moment to attack?
@dmfraser1444
@dmfraser1444 2 жыл бұрын
@@SoranoGuardias He still should have had private offline backups he kept in his lab or even on himself. Protecting your data is a basic part of having computers critical to your mission. I mean not even computing 101 level. Way below that level. A bright man such as him should have had multiple encrypted archives on non-networked drives. And for cloud stored data it has been feasible to have it stored in uncrackable encryption for quite some time now. I do such a scheme myself and it costs very little considering how important some of my data could be. But then Star Trek writers have also lost the technology of the seat belt and the circuit breaker. Control panels do not explode like the way they do on the show.

Here's my big question. How does Jurati joining with the Borg Queen and their deal to change how the Borg act affect the rest of the timeline? This new direction for the Borg doesn't seem to be compatible with how the Borg acted in TNG/First Contact/Voyager. So, does that mean these events no longer happened as we saw them? Do the Borg no longer invade, assimilate Locutus, and take out the fleet at Wolf 359? Does that mean Jennifer Sisko never dies? Maybe she still dies, but the circumstances change? How does that change Ben or Jake Sisko? Do they still end up on DS9? What about the events of First Contact? Do the Borg no longer go back in order to prevent it? That'll change how certain events in Enterprise play out, because they do reference the events of First Contact and encounter some remnant Borg. Or maybe the Borg still play the role of this antagonistic species, in order to "preserve" the timeline up to that point? Or is this now another parallel timeline, where the Borg were less antagonistic, but not necessarily "friendly", occupying a position similar to the Cardassians for most of the TNG era, prior to the Dominion War, or the Romulans, for that matter?
@BastetFurry

@@jonfreeman9682 this. Like the end of Series 1, where Picard (apparently) confessed his love for data, this ending again has an illogical detail. I'll let Picard hug Q at the end because of the overall situation. Even if the Picard from the TV series never hugged Q. But what didn't make sense to me was young Guinan's behavior. Apparently she didn't even know Picard in the season. However, in the old series, the two had known each other long before that. But now Guinan didn't seem to remember. I thought so at first because this is a whole new timeline. So both the future and the complete past. But old Guinan could remember those meetings very well. Before Picard landed in the past. So if it all seemed to have always been part of that main timeline, why couldn't young Guinan remember Picard? Either the writers didn't take that into account, or they didn't care because they found it more interesting that way.

That botheredme to. Idt the writers of Picard have even watched many episodes of pre Abrams/Kurtzman Trek. Imo that is forgivable, in and of itself, but they ought to, at least, have had some proofreader or something on staff who had watched it.

@@hubbsllc That’s not right. They traveled back to BEFORE the event that made that future. They prevented the “bad” future and restored the one we know. They showed this in multiple ways: 1. Soong opens the “Khan” project, which we know leads to the Eugenics Wars, and all the events around Khan we see later with Kirk. 2. Picard comments about the bullet holes left by the Borg queen’s goons, as being bullet holed he remembered as a child. 3. He left the key for himself to find, accepting his fate, the death of his mother and all the paths it would lead him down. 4. Romulan lady (can’t remember her name) as she’s dying, she ask him how many life’s has his grief saved? 5. Final scene of movie is the characters back where they started, in the PRIME timeline, with the “strange” Borg queen on the bridge. The timeline wasn’t just restored, the sequence of events demonstrated that these events had always been what happened! We weren’t aware because we hadn’t seen the future yet where the bootstrap paradox loop was closed. What seemed like the same instant to everyone else in the prime timeline, Picard and his friends were taken back to the past so that the Borg queen would be able to be on the bridge in the first place!

Yeah they need to figure this stuff out. In the Star Trek DTI novels, beta-canon at best now, the Temporal Accord included the Travelers and all Temporal powers in the galaxy. The group that Gary Seven was part of had the name "Aegis", and they protected all history for all civilizations. The Q and the temporal powers have an understanding and limits, I guess it must be similar to what happened with the El-Aurian and Q Continuum. If this gets retconned to DTI novels, then it would mean that Aegis is similar to UN Peacekeeper force, while the Federation Temporal Department and groups like Krenim Temporal Agency are local powers like US or Russia. You can have an international peacekeeping force alongside national military forces/agencies.

Jurati is a newer Borg Queen unlike the other Borg in the Delta Quadrant. This version of Borg makes a formidable ally to the Federation and could change their future drastically. Question is, how many species did Jurati assimilated for the past 400 years. And what happened to human Jurati's present? Did her past happen or did she just vanish? Are there two Agnes now?

Though it is a central concept in many sci-fis, I don't like producers messing with time travel. Elnor is an example of what happens when time travel mess up. Let's assume that Stargazer blowing up is the main timeline. Changing history would cause an alternate timeline (mirror universe) to be formed, which is the one with the Confederation. But when Picard went back to 2024, did his actions create another alternate timeline in which Guinan kept a photo of Rios? Or did they meant to happen in the main timeline? Also, when Picard called-off the self destruction, he must have created the third alternate timeline, because in the main timeline, the Stargazer self-destructed, resulting in his death.

Not really, higher being always had this power to go back in time. Even Sisko's Prophet had that ability, because they were non-linear beings. @LARRY HARRIS Seems like there's someone desperate to have something to complain about: - Travellers alreaqdy had been introduced in Startrek way before the MCU movie series, in the late ´1980s. They were introduced in ST:TNG - The Watchers were introduced in the mid-1960s in ST:TOS in a time the Watchers from the Marvel comics were only minor charackters not known to manny comic readers. - Q as depicted in Star Trek TNG, VOY, DS9 and PIC are a genuine creation of Star Trek. Everay science fiction series have higher ups. The German PErry Rhodan Series did that with the super intellicences too since the early 1960s. - The temporal agents were introduced in the 1990s in ST:DS9 equally way before the Marvel Cinematic Universe. - This certain kind of time travel in the whole Star Trek canon only had been observed by just one species, the humans. First time seen in Star Trek Voyage Home done by Kirk and Spock and on screen the second time in ST:PIC. All the things seen in ST:PIC are genuine Star Trek and happened before the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There's more reason to argue that having the Borg as allies of the Federation is stolen from the German science-fiction series Perry Rhodan in which the Posbi, who were cyborgs have cubic space crafts too and became an ally to the human lead Solar Empire which is a bit like the UFP.

A good recap. I was quite unimpressed by the ending. Which is a shame, because the individual plot lines, especially picards past and Qs ending i found great, also evolving the Borg into new allies - awesome! that alone is enough material for a whole new show. But the way it was presented with a very weird pace, direction and cuts felt lackluster. i have the feeling this could have been a great great season, but some things behind the curtain (covid, changed funding, rotating executives etc.) lead to a sub-par final product. this might have worked much better in and episodic approach with most of the individual storys beeing told and finished in their own episode at the right pace.

So that's his timeline we're going with? Also when jurati borg queen went off in the space ship to make a new collective, what happened to the collective we already know and fear? They had been around for thousands of years. Did jurati's new collective somehow take that one over? Or did they hide from it for 400 years. Hide from the other collective, from starfleet, from everyone. Because no one knew anything about them. And Rios had a rough time since his other captain killed himself, but he was fully back on track, the captain of a star ship again. The writers suck. They completely discarded the fact that Guinan met Picard and his crew back in the 1800s who helped solved the mystery of Data's destruction. It was also the reason why Guinan befriended Picard before they even met. This version of Star Trek the Next Generation must be the JJ Abram's timeline that craps on everything that is cannon over the decades. Also time travel stories are dumb, all those deaths in the past and no consequences. None of those soldiers had any effect to the future but Rico happens to fall in love with the mother of the son that saved earth? Absurd. Also Jurati just gets wiped out of existence and becomes the new Borg queen? Ridiculous.

@@riopato2009 OK, this has come up before. So when Picard finds "young" Guinan in that bar, they well and truly have never met, but hearing the name "Picard" has an effect on her because Guinan is sensitive to alternate timelines (including, apparently, the one(s?) in which they *had* met in the 19th century).

Let me start by saying I am a huge star trek fan, and I think Jean-Luc Picard (from TNG) is the ultimate character and leader, not just for Star Trek, but anywhere. I just discovered these "can we try to explain and make sense of these Picard plotlines" videos. Ultimately, any story that requires multiple videos to dissect, postulate, and TRY to explain, means the root story is garbage. There are so many parodoxical "red flags" here that you would think the story took place in the Russian Embassy. One flaw I havent seen mentioned: I can accept science "flaws" for science fantasy stories (as opposed to true science fiction, ala Arthur C Clarke). However the lack of science that a natural phenomena (neutrino something?) needs to be "blocked?" ASAP to avoid destroying 1/4 of the galaxy, is too far. Yes that phenomena would destroy any life in its path, but it still cant travel faster than light. Therefore the galaxy should have ample time to avoid it.

Maybe Laris was leaving because she was the Watcher called Tallinn, ready to go back in time to protect Renée Picard after having completed her mission of looking after Jean-Luc Picard.
@nooneatall8072
@nooneatall8072 2 жыл бұрын
Laris was leaving because Picard turned her down and staying after that would be too awkward for both of them. She took the relationship risk to broach the topic in episode 1. She was determined to leave, but not on bad terms - they both still cared for each other a great deal. But then Picard surprised her and seriously asked for a 2nd chance. Laris looks to have accepted that request. That acceptance would mean that Laris is not leaving, but staying. It is still possible for Laris to go become Tallinn. She will likely outlive Picard. It is also possible that Laris and Picard have a daughter that Picard insists be named Tallinn.

In all honesty... that Drone Chase Scene wasn't a nail biter... I mean, they told us in the opening, that we would see Whoopie Goldberg again... And yes, they tried to give every character something to do... but there was no way those drones would be successful and we all knew it...

Why launch them all at different times to prevent them from stopping him when they all end up in one group? Was so lame and the CGI must have cost them tens of dollars.
@PassivesAbseits
@PassivesAbseits 2 жыл бұрын
@@mikej9470 well... it was a classical "Give every character something to do" scenario. Which is technically a good idea. But it only really works, when the side characters need to achieve something, so the main characters can progress. A simple example is Jurati hacking the security from within earlier in that season. If "the rest of the squad" had to overcome an obstacle, so Picard can beam into the launching facility, it might have worked.

Q changes past: Everything is different to how the main timeline was before the change. Agnes and Rios change past: Everything is as it was before and the main timeline is the same. This makes no sense. Is the thing that threatened the sector the show's planet sized plot hole?

I wish I had skipped the first nine episodes and just watched the final one with the minute-long recap at the beginning. The story was a two-parter at best stretched into 10 episodes. Anyhoo, I'm guessing the events of "The Inner Light" do not count because it was all in Picard's head, but he didn't know that for the 50-some years when he got married and raised his children. He certainly got close to her. It's true that he seemed to have little choice, but he did have one. He could've spent the remainder of his years exploring the planet and trying to leave. Instead, he chose to fall in love and have kids. Since to me the episode does count, it makes the entire Picard story of shunning love not true. Which means in order to accept this version of events, I will have to pretend that this Picard and this entire series is not from the same universe as TNG. That would explain a lot.

@@Kmac005 or tng really...I mean..to cram 50 years of living suddenly into your mind.....Picard would not have been allowed to return to active duty...I got to assume his memories faded really quickly..

@@thisjustin6150 The revisited it a season or two later when Picard falls for one of the crew. So, at least in TNG his memories of what happened did not fade quickly. If anything, they seem to become a core part of his character. He knew that he could get close to someone because of that experience. So, it's not surprising that they tossed it out for this season of Picard.

There a couple of problems with Picard one of the problems is is that it is if gun has never met P card when we know the Guinan met Picard back in the 1890s you know the whole business with her date is had mentioned in the first season right so how does she not know Picard in this one? Another problem Rios not being where he supposed to be in time doesn’t just leave a big hole in time if it’s in theory if you go by quantum mechanics you cannot actually do that. So just like they would be he would need to have two Renees one dies one lives you’d have to have the same thing with real it just it it doesn’t make sense otherwise but then again I think whoever was doing the writing including Patrick Stewart I don’t think they remember the past very well. It has more holes in swiss cheese. Don’t get me wrong it’s corny as it comes off it ties up the strings very nicely except for the fact that Gannon doesn’t know him I’m using voice to text and this is just not working well I hope this makes sense to somebody.

I think that Q's gift is not bring Elnor back alive, but sending the group back to the 25th century. Elnor's death was likely outside of the temporal causality loop, since he was killed only because history changed. But Rios and Jurati were meant to have left in 2024, as demonstrated by Guinan and the 25th century Borg Queen. Q sent the team back before the Stargazer self-destructed, so Elnor is alive by then, not revived by Q.

Picard had to go to sometime in the past before he found the key as a boy. Q created the Alternate timeline so that Picard would be willing to go in the past. If they were not in an alternate timeline, Picard would have never gone back, Q had to give him a reason to go to go. Picard had to accept the past and place the key there for his younger self to find in the future.

But Q said Picard didn't even have to go to the past to Guinan. There's multiple ways to travel back in time, Picard chose this way.
