I’m almost certain they will bring him back as he is the core story. The other games were cash grabs but also what the fans wanted. So its hard to hate. Its definitely tricky to maintain a lengthy story set in multiple time periods over and over and over while still adding more to core story and giving fans the time periods they wanna play in. I think they removed Desmond from the story temporarily to please fans and the gameplay for a certain time until its time to wrap it up.

But imagine how Ezio felt at that moment, realizing he's just a minute part of a big story, even though he spent a big portion of his adult life fighting for humanity all the while suffering losses. In his mind he was the main character of his story and then he realized like he's a pretty minor supporting character in a story that is so much bigger than him. he was just a messenger for a message he didnt even understand. that shit hit me so hard it gave me a tiny existential crisis. He dedicated his life, and his whole family died for this all so that desmond can see all of it. They truly had something oh so special in the original Altair / Ezio story... and they even wrapped it up while leaving it open ended with revelations. The timeline, the characters, the motivations, the thematic continuity and the overarching narrative - everything fit in perfectly. And then the developers got corrupted by Juno's influence and she told them to make more money...

I feel like Black Flag, Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla progressively moved further and further into time sensitive narrative story pieces. And that's not a bad thing in my opinion. Granted the AC story arc is fiction, but the world they injected their fiction into feels pretty damn accurate. I started to notice how much detail was put into the game worlds in order to make it feel like an accurate historical time piece. I would be curious to see the extent of what the developers/writers studied or who they hired. Do they have a dedicated historian they go to, Or do they contact multiple experts for each era they explore? Sometimes the games themselves feel like a history class just laid out in a different format. Black Flag taught me about the awful inner workings of the sugar trade. Learning about why so many of the salves had burn scars all over their bodies was impactful to say the least. Origins made me look deeper into how Egyptian society operated in their day to day lives, how the farming and commerce was conducted. It also made me delve deeper into Egyptian architecture, they had quite an obsession with obelisks and pyramids it would seem. Odyssey made me brush up on my Greek/Athenian historical characters like Alcibiades, Socrates, Hippocrates, and Herodotus. It also made me rethink the whole idea about how the Greeks where in their city debating about what a perfect society is, meanwhile right outside the city gates blood is being spilled. It's a stark contrast I never paid much attention to until the game kind of painted it in that light. I'm only 14-15 hours into Valhalla right now but I'm loving how it feels very time sensitive. Building my settlement so far has given me the most unique feeling of "historical value." The Architecture of each town's long-house is really unique. All of the longhouses have their own theme and unique build. I would love to see an in-depth video or documentary on what the AC team does to gather their primary and secondary sources for world building. I am thinking if you where to hire Dan Carlin to illuminate some specific times in history for the games iteration, we could end up with something magical.

This I think is their greatest strength. So much of the world's they've built are based on history that they actually become educational. I know so, so much more about the ancient Greek world than I ever did before because of Odyssey

All the games you listed pale in comparison in the way it fits into real history. The original games actually had historically accurate assassinations that you could Google and see that the person you just killed in game died IRL under mysterious circumstances, or in a way that correlates with the assassination in game.
@MorrowProduction
@MorrowProduction Жыл бұрын
@@voidbreaker4105 On the contrary I believe the first two Assassin's Creed games pale and comparison to the four I listed. The first two games share very similar settings and cultures. Assassin's Creed is a work of fiction, just because the first two games used actual names from history doesn't make it more historically valued to me. That's just my subjective opinion though. The 4 Assassin's Creed games I mentioned all chose a different Epoch of time and a totally new culture to explore with historical accuracy drizzled into the game world. Every building, person, outfit, weapon, and accent had to be researched and understood to create what they did. I prefer the unique cultures and settings of the newer AC games, they hold just as much if not more historical value than the first two AC games :)

Odyssey is actually very important it acknowledges the existence of the gods and where the Isu came from and what they are and it outlines the events and important people that built the mold for the world we now live in and the basically first "templar" with the cult that most likely inspired other like minded organizations to rise up which eventually saw the introduction of the templar later on in the worlds history and if you want to get technical Kassandra was one of the first "assassins" in the entire games universe
@matsosa
@matsosa Жыл бұрын
In my opinion, I think that the entire Assassin’s Creed lore is awesome - despite how far back or forth in time it extends…however, the reason why I am upset with Odyssey is because its reason for existing is just a series of excuses, spanning from “eventuals”, “leadings”, and “technicals”. At the point when somebody is trying to argue that Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is an Assassin’s Creed game, nevertheless a GOOD game…then why in the world would Ubisoft title that game “Assassin’s Creed”? If Odyssey is a pre-cursor to Assassin’s Creed (which I don’t doubt it is), then Ubisoft shouldn’t have been so timid and pretended that Odyssey was an AC game…and in their timidity, they were reluctant to establish the game as it should have been. Odyssey could have been great!..but, because they believed that a game called “The Hidden Ones” or “The Garden of Eden” or anything along the lines of a prequel to Assassin’s Creed…because Ubisoft was reluctant to branch out, they created a game that was infused with doubt and instability - a practice that so many industries struggle with. All that I’m saying is that Odyssey was not a bad game because of its combat, is story, its characters, or anything about IT…Odyssey is a bad game because it tries to be something that it is not and intends to fill holes with material which it does not have.
@matsosa
@matsosa Жыл бұрын
…and I’d name Amunet or Bayek before Kassandra, in the conversation of the “first” assassin. Just because an idea is born from somebody’s character, it does not mean that said person is responsible for the actions which others carry on…those consequences are burdened by the ones who establish themselves as instruments of that idea - you don’t need to eat all the food that’s presented to you. If Kassandra is an Assassin, then her father is an Assassin too because he, technically, raised her with his beliefs and taught her everything that she knows…and her father’s father was an Assassin too…and in every little way, somebody before was an Assassin. I think that the terms by which you should acknowledge an Assassin is, simply, by their title. Hooded people who wield hidden blades and linger in the shadows are not too indistinguishable.

@@matsosa "Odyssey is a bad game because its titled Assassin's Creed and treated like a mainline game instead of a spinoff" is an absolutely WILD take. Its a game set in the lore of assassins creed, using similar mechanics to assassins creed, and has by your own admission decent at worst combat, story, characters, or anything about it, but because The Brotherhood doesn't exist its a bad game? Like, you can dislike the direction it goes with the lore, but even that doesn't make it a bad game.
@matsosa
@matsosa Жыл бұрын
@@kynelius ...coming back to these comments months later, I still think Odyssey is a huge disappointment. We can agree to disagree, but you can't just change my mind by telling me that YOU think it's not a bad game. More power to you, but I just don't agree. I think your point is invalid, too. In fact, I think you're just hating because you liked Odyssey. Either that or you just want to be a part of a debate. Forgive me for expecting certain aspects from a game that's titled after its predecessors...so yes, when a game is titled "Assassin's Creed", I fully expect it to embody that legacy. If not, what's the point of calling it "Assassin's Creed" if not just to milk money from people like me who are die-hard fans of the franchise? If you go to a restaurant and order steak and lobster and they bring you shrimp and chicken, personally, I wouldn't put it past you to raise an eyebrow...and if you didn't ask any questions, then you were just really hungry and the restaurant was just really desperate. Do you see the metaphor that I'm trying to make? Ubisoft is NOT the only video game company to ruin their franchises because of inflation. EA's sports games are just copies of the last with little to no difference. Activision's Call of Duty's have just been unfinished trash with a good polishing to make it appear great...almost every grand video game company has been practicing quantity over quality. In the last 3 years, I can count with my fingers how many playable games there were - nevertheless being GOOD games. Compared to before then, we were in a time where video game companies had undeniable passion and love for their fanbases...so again, forgive me for believing that Assassin's Creed: Odyssey would be anything like previous Assassin's Creed games. Maybe common sense is what separates us two...and maybe I really am at fault for that.

Over the fall/winter I’ve started to replay the games from 1 (mostly, plan on skipping 1-2 of them). And once you get past the graphics, the games hold up. I remember playing AC 2 for the first time when I was like 9 and being so excited to go to the store and buy the first once to get deeper Into it. The games truly were/are something special, regardless of the more recent RPG related criticisms.

Dude. This was absolutely epic. I started from the first too, all the way up to black flag when I stopped gaming altogether. I did feel let down somewhere in there. Now, years later, my son bought Odyssey. I wasn’t into it. Just watched a little bit. He doesn’t even know how much I played. But I started jamming with him, and then I started jamming again until early morning lol. The big break away from gaming in general allowed me not to judge Odyssey. I treated it as if it were a different game. I’ve been playing it again now, even though I’m 1/10th through on my son’s game. So it’s been cool to appreciate it for what it is, despite not knowing anymore how the meta story works. But thanks to this epic story, piecing together the timeline and sharing some of the same sentiments I did (when you groan about how they ruined the Juno storyline), I feel a little more optimistic and perhaps excited about the AC future. They might win me back, after a decade.

I love to read that! I also played the early AC games before dropping out of the series for years. In my case, my partner who's more of a casual gamer got me back into it thanks to Odyssey. He replayed it at least 3 times, and had only played Origins before that. The game's strongest aspect is the freedom it gives players. You choose a protagonist; you are free to explore any area of the game early on; You choose how to approach combat; You choose what quests to do, in what order, and you can pause any of them at any time; you choose the tone of the story... so much is left to the player's whims. All in an uplifting setting. Plus, Greek mythology is so prevalent in our culture, that everything feels familiar. We both got to enjoy the game in our own way, and we bonded over our shared appreciation of it, and even learned from each other's approach. I think games are the most successful when they bridge the gap between casual and experienced gamers.

Although I've played them all; I haven't really been interested in much after Black Flag... mainly because of the modern story kill off. Unity, Syndicate, Origins, and Odyssey where meh story wise for me. Character wise bayak and basim I found interesting, the rest forgettable. Rogue was amazing though. I kinda want to see more spin offs like that! Gameplay wise, I love Mirage... brings me back to the first AC... almost like a remake. You should play it.

I don’t think odyssey deserved the criticism you gave it. Yeah, it didn’t really do anything for the main plot or build upon previous plot lines, but it did show more of how the Templars came to be and more of the isus. The last trilogy (origins, odyssey, Valhalla) really are just prequels in a sense. Their purpose was to give more backstory to the assassins, Templars, and isus. I bet you mirage will move everything forward. If you played Valhalla, you know that everything is now at a point where we can move on with the main plot line of trying to stop the world from being destroyed…again lol

(the same way it was alledgedly going to end multiple times in the past hahaha) but due to the end of Mayan Calendar (which... Meant nothing really) but this game (Assassins Creed III) came with a story really appealing to all that hype about the end of the world (remember they even launched a movie, called 2012?) so it was pretty satisfying that Desmond gave up his life to save Earth and there we were in 2013, alive 🤣🤣🤣 I especially loved that relationship with reality.
