As a fun bit of trivia about Clavicus Vile's quest, the scripting of it actually makes Level 1 runs of Oblivion possible. If you show up to the shrine with Umbra even if you're level 1, Clavicus will still take it from you in exchange for the Masque which can then be used for Main Quest purposes.
