So, I remember when I played this game, I manage to design a ship that could go to any planet and get out no problem, it had a refueling system for small planets and a lander with enough delta V to go back to Kerbin. It was reusable for most missions (came back in 1 piece from anywhere), except Tylo and the bigger moons of Jool, in which I used the lander and leave behind the refueling system with the bigger thrusters. But no matter what I did to the design, I never managed to get out from Eve with it. That was the last frontier I never managed to conquer.
Matt, last mission should me unusual,, so here's my idea: 1) get rocker that carries a plane to Jool; 2) get plane into atmosphere of Jool; 3) collect science from low/high atmosphere of Jool; 4) return to Kerbin. That would be epic mission,, maybe;;

Thanks Matt! Thank you very much for this tutorial. And also when I detached the four big heat shields from the top of the ship they destroyed my science experiments, I am just saying this for people that have similar problems, only thing you have to do is use the quick save option until you the science experiments don’t get destroyed. I also had to use a little bit of engine burn when I was about to land because, as I said, my lander was more heavy than yours.

Hey @MattLowne , great video. A good Eve tutorial was definitely needed. FYI you can tell when your fuel tanks are out on your asparagus'd Eve ascent by clicking the \\\ next to the stage number on the staging display. It will pop out and show you info such as ISP, TWR, and burn time (which should correspond to the currently staged asparagus tanks only). That way you don't have to manually look at the tanks by clicking on them.

@Bamfhammer4 жыл бұрын
@@kalebbruwer Once I hit a million, I had enough to stop worrying about the cost. Most missions give you enough of an advance to be able to afford whatever you want to build for that mission anyway, and if you recover part of your ship, you are probably in the clear. About the only missions that I borderline lose money on are the "ferry these tourists to their destinations" when their destinations including landing somewhere besides Kerbin. Since you guys are playing career mode, how are you tracking a "victory"? Unlocking the tech tree or 100% reputation... or both? Or some arbitrary dollar amount?
@rustediron40625 жыл бұрын
You don't have to place the boosters one at a time without symmetry to do asparagus staging. You can build them with symmetry, then in the staging menu, select the decouplers, it'll expand the list to show them all, click on them to deselect them, and with a pair selected you can drag them into a different stage. Saves a lot of time having to get each booster in the right spot and doing the struts. And now that you can remove parts from symmetry, you can place the fuel lines with symmetry and then remove the ones that you need to place differently.

Related: If you send a drone-rover to a planet far away you might aswell pack a compact satellite that can relay transmissions. (direct **or** relay for ships/rovers or generally the last thing in a comms chain, **only relay** for satellites and things that are in the middle of the chain) 2) If it's not absolutely necessary, don't have it on your ship. (One kerbal in the lightest pod, but those rover seats should tickle your curiosity too ;) but don't forget to pack a battery, a solar panel and a smol reaction wheel)

i tried it using only 1 heatshield at the bottom, but my rocket keeps destabilising during reentry, turning upside down and buring up. Really should have put anotherone on top as well
@richardbloemenkamp85322 жыл бұрын
I noticed that this works very well in KSP. However I doubt that it would work in reality where the top heat shield is in the wind-shaddow of the bottom shield. Ideally the top heat shields would be put radially further away and I think it would be advisable to put the right side in the wind. To prevent issues with the radial extent and the pharing, the top heat shields may need to be folded inwards if that can be achieved. BTW by creatively trying to recreate this mission I found how optimized everything is. Even the nose cone does make quite some difference especially for the last stage; the vector engine is really great for this job.

You should do a gravity assist tutorial. Scott Manley's gravity assist video is great for showing how gravity assist work, but it didn't really help me actually do them. Specific things such as the fact that you need to cross the target orbit instead of just encountering the target is something I wish I knew before. I also keep spending 200+ delta v for fine tuning gravity assists, often for inclination changes and don't know how to spend less.

Thank you SOOO much. I just got the mission to land 10 kerbals on eve and return to kerbin in ksp 2 science campaign. I've never landed and returned from eve either. I'm shouting you out when I make that particular video shortly. I feel like I have a chance now lol.

Send it to pol it’s interesting and also I have no idea how to get there because there are practically no tutorials in how to get there. You make your missions easy to understand and helpful it would great if I could finally know what kind of rocket and what kind of manoeuvres and stuff would help me try and get there. I also think its interesting and an unusual destination

Do a Dres landing and then send an asteroid back to the Kerbal Space Center. Its the most boring place ever yet this could make one of the most satisfying videos.

I cannot wait to get this good at this game. I just built a working airplane and put a satellite into orbit around Kerbin. My next mission involves putting a robotic lander onto the surface of Minmus. Then I think I might try and recreate the Voyager probes. This game is so much fun.

TLDR: to orbit Eve from the surface you gotta pack an ascent module that’s about 1.5x what it would take to orbit Kerbin from the surface

I needed this, and I need a more efficent engine than vector, because I hate nuclear engines because, space whales would be poisoned. and thats also why eve is purple, matt keeps dropping nuclear engines in the atmosphere

"Irradiating space is like pissing in the ocean." I.e. The stars already produce so much radiation that anything humans could ever do would be insignificant in comparison. Nuclear engines are the superior option for all space-based applications.
@jimkerman56755 жыл бұрын
@@Ruiluth However radiation in my, and (most likely) nuclear engines is ionizing radiation, which the sun does not produce, however nuclear power plants, Thermonuclear bombs and (again assuming) Nuclear engines all do produce said Ionizing radiation, which can cause damage to living tissues, physicaly burn those tissues, radiation sickness, cancerous tissues and a large case of death. (Disclaimer: I didn't know all the side effects of ionizing radiation, I did look at google, here's the page www.google.com/search?safe=strict&client=firefox-b-d&ei=urxrXcqyNIzVgQbXv4DQBg&q=what+can+ionizing+radiation+cause&oq=what+can+ioni&gs_l=psy-ab.1.0.0j0i22i30l9.90710.93633..95489...0.2..2.348.2367.2j9j0j3......0....1..gws-wiz.....0..0i71j0i67j0i131.CzMpQCvURHM)

@@jimkerman5675 um... Where did you learn that? What do you think cosmic rays are? Why do you think they're harmful if they're non-ionizing? That's the entire purpose of of the ozone layer, is to protect life on earth from the enormous amounts of x and gamma rays from the sun. "Natural sources include the sun, lightning and supernova explosions. Artificial sources include nuclear reactors, particle accelerators, and x-ray tubes." en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ionizing_radiation#Sources_of_radiation Space is so filled with ionizing radiation that it's one of the main challenges of supporting life in space. The amount produced by a nuclear reactor of any size is a drop in the bucket compared to that produced by even a smaller star like the sun.
@jimkerman56755 жыл бұрын
@@Ruiluth First of all. The first comment I put was a joke and now were into what I do in my free time. Second of all. I don't think non-ionizing radiation is dangerous, ionizing removes electrons from the atom, most of the ionizing radiation comes from cosmic rays, not the sun, the reason why there is not that many is because of the heliosphere. Yes I also know its a hard thing to keep radiation out and humans alive in space, thats why were not on mars yet (and other priciples). A nuclear (depending on the yeild) would not cause any significant damage to a planet, but lets say about 3 tsar bomba's or the proposed tsar bomba (50 Mt and 100 Mt) would cause a nuclear winter, all my joke was the reason why eve is purple is because Matt Lowne drops nuclear engines into the planet, causing Thermonuclear Detonations. Which (if mixed with a chemical that is potent with direct sunlight) with a nuclear winter could cause in a sense, purple snow, all across the land, a casscade of effects if you will. Also wikipedia isn't very reliable sometimes due to the nature of people changing the infomation

@@jimkerman5675 Fair enough, I just have nothing better to do with my time and arguing about physics is much more interesting than arguing about politics... (also jokes are sometimes hard to pick up on in text form.) I tend to trust Wikipedia because back in middle school when my friends and I tried to put spurious information in, it was corrected within hours by the militant nerds who police that site... They also cite their sources very well. I'd trust them over Google, anyway.

for all planetary entries, but more so on Eve than any of the others because of its vicious atmosphere, it's good practice to turn your ship towards the radial marker before separating. That way each part of the ship will follow a different curve towards the surface and you're less likely to have a partially filled fuel tank blow up right behind the lander. It's incidentally how Soyuz lands, but it works just as well in KSP. Also to cut down on travel time, it's often faster to do transfers by jumping into a solar orbit between planets, so they don't have to be perfectly aligned before starting
