Just watched this complete. An excellent docu on American popular music in the pre-Beatles era. Insightful comments from the interviewees. No complete song performances, but analysis of the records is very informative. Highly recommended.

Curious if anyone knows the origin of the image of the road sign showing Nashville w/mileage to South and Louisville w/mileage to North. And Portland, down Hwy 109. Was it an Everly Brothers image or just used for the production of the documentary.

No male duo could sing together as well as the Everly Brothers. Some of the greats came close like Lennon/McCartney,. Crosby/Nash, Simon & Garfunkel, Righteous Brothers, but nobody could exactly equal it on a regular basis. It was a sibling thing. Lennon/McCartney certainly outdid them in overall songwriting & creativity (No question), but in actual singing together? No, I would still go with the Everly Brothers. They were a little better (if you can believe it) IMO..

that's so true..the everly brothers sing the harmonies very well, phil in high notes distances himself from the mic to get his voice in tune with don..unlike lennon mccartney, paul's voice is always louder for example when they perform baby's in black

Paul McCartney agrees with you. He said it himself in an interview he gave about 2 years ago.

@@zenitsuagatsuma6466 Well, there is a difference there. In "Baby's In Black", Paul is actually singing more the melody and John the counter melody especially on the bridge of the song. That's why he is a little louder. With Lennon/McCartney, either voice could sing a little more of the lead depending on the song. With the Everly Brothers, they stuck to a formula where Don ALWAYS sang the lead melody. Anyway, it would be REAL CLOSE, but if push came to shove, I would still give a slight edge to the Every Brothers. Those guys were BORN to sing together.

For those that saw the entire special, did you notice one of the brothers who commented on the tax rate they were paying? NINETY percent. That era of course--and right up to present time, was notorious for screwing the artist, taking the Lion's share of the profits--and then with what was left, the happy Fed took 90 percent? They dint' make much of a point about it, I suppose they were mature enough to understand that "that's how it was" but my Gosh, can you imagine? You make 90 bucks a week and the government in it's graciousness let's you keep--nine dollars.

Just watched the film on PBS. Worst thing on the Everlys I've ever seen! Kind of a disgrace. Who cares what all these celebrities or celebrity wannabes have to say about them? Ugh! And who was that young kid singing so horribly - the director's grandson? There is so much great material on film about these amazing artists and so many really interesting interviews with them - but this was pathetic. And this is what people will see, because it's on PBS. Such a shame.
