Impressive. Well done. I'll just throw some extra info about DMC4: Special Edition since I don't want this comment to be just random praise. Vergil's BOOM BOOM was also in DMC4SE. Just like in 5 - If you stand still - you'll get it as well. Trish also has a BOOM BOOM effect to her Devil Trigger. These damage frames are tied to the DT activation animation. It's cool seeing Trish put on her sunglasses while knocking away enemiеs. And Lady... err... well... Lady's whole D.T. is an explosion anyway :D

Fking finally someone acknowledges the sheer genius of the Quadruple S in DMC5, it's like the "I'm just better at the game" mechanic that rewards the stylish players with more options to style. Nothing beats flickering into SDT to use the dodge instead of resorting to royal guard or trickster dash. And you also explained the reason why I loved playing as Nero in DMC4 compared to Dante, being able to DTE out of every attack was just very "fluid" in feeling, using it to avoid damage, launch enemies, and use it to chain weird combos.
@SHIKI_All_Caps Жыл бұрын
Great vid. Never thought about how DTE could be interpreted as a form of characterisation so it was interesting to hear your take on it. I agree that DTE in 3 is pretty basic and doesn't offer much variety, but I do think it works really well in the context of DMD in that game. To me it always made playing on DMD a more tactical experience that was pretty fun and isn't something that's present in the same way in 4 or 5 due to how they changed some of the rules for DMD in those games.

This deep dive into DTE is hella fire but the part about Vergil and Dante's DT's does get 1 thing wrong: Vergil already got his DT when he was WAAAAAYYYYYYYY younger (when the house got attacked by all the demons) so the DTE inexpirence for him doesn't make as much sense as Dante, but still a very dope video
@liltone829 Жыл бұрын
Where does it ever say that?
@omegazjay Жыл бұрын
Ok so, basically in one of the mangas (dont remember if its VoV or Before the Storm), during Mundus' demon attack, Vergil see's his house burning and summons Yamato from thin air. That is most likely the first time Vergil used his DT. In a moment of desparation. If the info about the demon attack is wrong then the latest point where Vergil could get his DT pre 3 is the Fortuna trip but im 97% sure its the former (and plus this is more headcanon than fact on my aprt if the Demon attack isn't what awakened his DT)
@jondoe7036 Жыл бұрын
@@omegazjay DMC3 manga has Dante also dapping into his demonic power few times, despite taking place a year before he'd unlock his Devil Trigger in the game proper. The thing is that it is also either at specific moments of desperation, or when he is being affected by some demonic trickery, that forces the demon power out of him and he isn't able to actually control the transformation. I see no evidence to suggest the thing that happened to Vergil as an eight year old would have been anything more than that and there's a world of difference between them experiencing brief instinctual flashes of their demonic powers and fully controlled use of those powers in the form of Devil Trigger.
@omegazjay Жыл бұрын
@@jondoe7036 that actually does make alot of sense for the demon attack ngl. The issue of the DT control still kinda stands but we could just say his Fortuna trip pre 3 is when he was honing his DT and in 3 he is still honing it or some mumbojumbo like that

What makes DTE so special in 3 is that you either can build it up for the explosion, or you could save the pips for when you're low on health and need the extra mobility, regen, damage reduction, hyper-armour, and general output. Devil Trigger isn’t just a means to an end, you have decisions. If you're in a pinch, especially against bosses or multiple waves of enemies, or you got grabbed by an enemy, saving those pips and using Devil Trigger is ideal. But if you want to clear a room quickly, Explosion is the way to go. Especially considering that it’s Stylish to not use items (devil stars or vital stars), DT is your only consistent way for regenerating your health, so you have to decide between building up to massive damage, or regeneration with other amenities. I love how the game stacks additional choices and resource management on its already solid and deep combat. Truly the zenith of the medium. Another way to look at it is that DTE rewards players for playing well and not taking too much damage-meanwhile DT is a great fall back option for when you're low on health, or in need for mobility and hyper-armour, or to escape a grab. Obviously DT can be used offensively given how it raises attack power and speed, and unlocks certain attacks for the player.

“Vergil favors his composure over raw power.” 100%, I mean, look no further than his in-game mechanic literally called *Concentration.* The more focused Vergil is, the more everything goes just the way he wants it, the more powerful he becomes. If he doesn’t have that composure, that concentration, he can’t perform his most devastating attacks (JCE, Hell on Earth, Deep Stinger, even World of V needs high concentration to really be effective). Without that composure of his, even his normal attacks get weaker. Concentration makes his Yamato attacks have more reach, makes his Mirage Edge attacks have more hits, and makes his Beowulf attacks have a 3rd charge stage, it makes him absurdly more powerful to just have full concentration. But if he doesnt have that, hes a lot weaker. Notably, abilities like his DTEs (or, Summon Clone and Boom Boom in this case) actually help him maintain his concentration just as much as they would interrupt him otherwise. I choose to believe he does these things, at least Boom Boom, purposefully as a way to protect himself without exerting himself so he can maintain concentration (since getting hit majorly tanks his Concentration).

They took a hated over powered super mode that rewarded you for being heavily wounded capcom looked at it and said we can make this slick stylish. to me that evolution turning it into sin DT. DMC5's ability to look back on the series and refine it into its best it can be even including the games worst elements into something uniquely loved. That kind of evolution is what defines dmc5 as a whole to me.

Yeah the DMC 3 part feels kinda anemic, there's far more to DT than that, like partial and "full" distortion. Same for the comments saying it's a balance to either use explosion or the full DT duration on higher difficulties, or that you want to explode early to keep building DT. When in reality one big explosion is more than enough for most encounters, maybe a medium one for small enemies left, even in DMD.

Fun Fact you see Dante is the Devil Trigger explosion in the classic Anime to overpower Sid/Abigail. - The second one, is specific to the Boss Fights of Vergil from Missions 13 & 20 (DMC3). When he turns Devil Trigger for the First time ever. As you said it's Like Vergil showing off, "You will not forget this devil's POWER! You're not worthy as my opponent." While echoing these words Vergil creates this dark blue force field. That's bigger than his Summon Sword Force Field. That makes him immune to all damage, but this Force Field. Unlike the smaller one, creates a whirlwind effect around the force field to ommit that he has so much more "power" coming from him and that the player/Dante doesn't stand a chance against this new form. I'm pretty sure Dante or even Nero could do this too. But it's the way that Vergil uses it that makes very character specific. And I prefer it much over the gameplay versions. As this one speaks more into Vergil's personality of how he would he use his Devil Trigger explosion versus's how Dante would use his. Basically Dante's acts more like an attack that destroys all those around him Vergil's is a display of power to put fear/despair of those around him; before he actually even makes an attack in his Devil Trigger state form. - The Third time, is the most weird one but the most overpowered one. It comes from the Devil May Cry 2. Yes Matt Walker confirmed these were cannon. The aura Dante was releasing from his body had a toxic fear effect. As in the Aura that comes from Dante's body and any demon like him that can use it. Is so powerful. That it was scaring the INANIMATE objects around him. So much that they started destroying themselves in fear. I'm not even joking. Meaning if you fought Dante, Vergil, or Nero and they used their aura. If you don't have some type of fear resistance/fear affinity you could be driven insane. Like I said it's so potent that even OBJECTS that aren't sentient aren't safe so NO ONE is. The worst part is Dante wasn't even in his Devil Trigger when fighting this guy. Meaning this was his base Aura not even ho strong the effects would be if he actually used DTE.

Surprisingly very hilarious, entertaining AND informative for a 42 minute video. Usually I drone out and alt-tab (modern attention span lol) but this got me hooked. Looking forward to your future videos.

Man, this was an incredible video. Informative, entertaining, very well-edited and well-researched, and hilarious. Instant sub. That aside, I couldn't agree more about Quadruple S. It's easily my favorite mechanic in any action game ever, just absolutely brilliant design from top to bottom.
