I love how she maps out the evolution of Taylor’s outfits, stylings, fashion trends, media-both traditional and social, and her overall brand. Personally, I think the influence is the other way around-with the wider fashion trends being purposefully chosen for Taylor, who epitomizes and mirrors each trend, vs the videos analysis that she is the trendsetter creating the trends. Just given all the other celebrities and fashion designers having already adopted or adopting the looks at the same time. But kudos to her and all her masterful stylists over the years. No matter what she’s been criticized for, it’s never been for looking bad. She’s like the ideal/idol of American Fashion, like a time capsule wardrobe, so the comment about America’s Barbie Doll seems very apt.

People love to call Taylor manipulative, and ruthless when it comes to her career, but when you think about it, she's been relevant for over 15 years, and there's no way she would have done that without being smart and careful with her public image. It just doesn't make sense to me because like...what would you rather have? If she had maintained the good girl persona, written a couple country albums that didn't quite reach mainstream popularity, and faded into obscurity by her midtwenties would that make people think she was a morally good person? If she made you believe she put no effort at all into her public image , is that what it takes for people to think she's not morally deficient? As Miss Swift herself once said, 'If a man does something, he's calculated. If a woman does something, she's manipulative.' Obviously a huge part of her fame is due to her talent, but I also respect her immensely for how clever she is with Easter eggs and eras and reinventing herself. (Obviously, she shouldn't have to reinvent herself to stay famous if men don't have to, but she's good at it anyway).
@mariakiwi14282 жыл бұрын
I swear to god this matter and the thing about dating is where you always see the double standard between male and women that are successful in the media. @smoothcashewbutter88202 жыл бұрын
I think it was because she wanted to portray this "good girl" persona and that didn't align with her dating life. Of course, as you said, that's a normal thing for a lot of girls who are in love with the idea of love. Nothing bad in it. But people were obsessed with the idea of "inocence" and having a "role model" for her children. It was also because people dislike girly girls' behavior, such as falling in love easily. They probably found that irritating. Most people date like that, it's very common to fall in love and then end relationships quickly...

It’s fascinating to see her evolution through this lense, especially regarding how much of these changes were her own genuine choices and how many were marketing decisions above all else

Haven't seen the video yet, but I just HAVE to say that: Taylor Swift has IMPECABLE street style. Also she is extremely clever with usage of fashion, AND she was personally responsible for teaching me the ideia of equilibrate personal style, fashion trends, situational image projection and cultural/identity statements, in a feel good yet socially effective lozenge. She is such a criminally underrated fashion icon, but because she chooses inteligente and elegance instead of the typical (for a pop star) "controversial" and "shock value", people tend to look over her in that matter. she's a force to be reckon in fashion. I'm so ready for this video.

Im obsessed... Her bringing up Alex Turner made me so happy. And I know you don't usually do fashion amylases on men, but his style is super interesting, because it changes every time they try a new style of music with every album. Just look at the difference in music and style from AM to Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino.

I think a lot of her style evolution is rooted in the treatment of women in the media. As Taylor said, “The female artists that I know of have reinvented themselves 20 times more than the male artists. They have to… Or else you’re out of a job. Constantly having to reinvent, constantly finding new facets of yourself that people find to be shiny.” Wonderful job on this video :)

Man if I had ever become famous, I would have been viciously attacked for every life decision I made. She really has kept herself well adjusted and gracious. Love that about her.

I read that the bangs were Vogue’s idea for a photo shoot and she went for it. It’s crazy that she wouldn’t have her iconic bangs if it weren’t for the photo shoot. (Idk if I wrote that correctly this is my second language)

Honestly, when people criticize female celebrities for dating too much, calculative/manipulative, petty, or fame hungry without any concrete proof or taking things out of context, you just know there's nothing legitimate to criticize her. I laughed at the people who criticized her for being petty for suing someone to only win and get one dollar or dating too much. When I heard about those scandals, I just knew there wasn't anything truly immoral about Taylor. I am not exactly an avid Taylor fan but I do love her style and many of her songs: I adore her fairytale-esque and lyrical trait of her songs and music video, sweet voice, and class.

My favorite style of hers was probably reputation and red. I love the edgy look of reputation. Red and 1989 had such a “Peter pan” 2010s tumblr aesthetic to it.

i am not a loyal follower of taylor swift but i grew up listening to a lot of her music. i often respected her because she often thought things well and her eras were so good. even if she received hate, taylor often came back and be a better person.

reputation was a cultural reset. i remember when look what you made me do came out and everyone was shocked at how much of a shift her personal style and musical style had. taylor is the ultimate pop culture icon.

I really like Taylor both as an artist and as a person - her career longevity and loyal fanbase speak to her qualities in both aspects. From image point of view I like her retro style most and will always be curious what vision she'll embrace in the next musical eras. Thanks for the video, I enjoyed it!

I only really got into Taylor's music around the lover era (It was impossible to be unaware of her before, but around that time I also felt less pressure to avoid all things girly and poppy) and I just love that I really got to know her music in a time where she so obviously enjoyed it!

I'll admit that I went through an NLOG phase, like a lot of other women. This caused me to judge Taylor often as someone who "just made music about her boyfriends and breakups" - something I regret now as a 22 yr old. Something I will say is that I can't really relate to her personally, and that has blocked me from truly falling in love with her music. A huge part of her brand seems to be romantic relatability and I've never even had a boyfriend. HOWEVER, I love the documented change in her outfits.
@potternutmania2 жыл бұрын
I've never had a bf either but her masterful story telling is very evocative and gets you invested imo, if you wanted to give her songs a chance :) plus sonically they are just beautiful
@AirQuotes2 жыл бұрын
I really didn't like her early music and found her style awful. As she's grown up, gotten better style and a slightly better music she's grown on me a bit more. The whole bf criticism thing went over my head and I still don't care
@Sunshine-hb3pl2 жыл бұрын
I get that i also dont relate to the love music, have you tried listening to folklore and evermore? People say theres a love triangle but alot of the songs can be interpreted through other themes
@kosaiie96302 жыл бұрын
I guess for my young self who for most of the time definitely does not have any bfs, xD I was such romanticist, especially with Taylor’s storytelling. Yeah I might not relate to it, but the feeling of the songs made it seem like I’m vicariously living through the characters in it.. idk if that makes sense hahaha
@bellac63112 жыл бұрын
I mean, im gay so ive never had and never will have a boyfriend, but honestly the way she writes makes you feel as though you were in that relationship and he did break your heart, and its so incredibly how cathartic her songwriting is. Like, All Too Well (the song she wrote about her emotionalky manipulative, age gap relationship with Jake Gyllenhall (it now has a ten minute version)) is still probably the best piece of songwriting in the 21st century. But if you cant relate to the relationship songs, try giving Folklore and Evermore a listen? Those songs are literally just narrative pieces, a lot of the times with her own fictional characters and stories and its so so beautiful. (if u want to listen to it, that is. Obv u can do what you want). Like i could talk about these songs all day lmao shes so talented

Taylor Swift is one of my fashion icons. I'm inspired by her style. I took up fashion design and merchandising in college. If I decide to be a designer she's one of my dream clients. I want to design a dress for her and invite her to sit front row in my fashion show

This was beautifully done, somehow I was one of those people who was aware of Taylor Swift and could sing maybe three or four songs if I was lucky but never ended up loving or hating her, I just ad this vague idea of what she was doing it was popular in the moment and didn't really care otherwise. This video made me reevaluate my relationship to celebrities back when I was in middle school (around 2014 when some of this big stuff happened) and how just hating a celebrity was considered cool and normal (taylor swift, Kristin Stewart and I am sure many others) and how completely abserd that is. I am 22 now and hearing how a lot of this happened to her when she was 19 made my stomach drop, I barely consider myself an adult now, I cant believe she had to go stuff like that and more that I am sure we don't even know about. Thank you for those I definitely respect her much more as an artist and a person after watching this and understanding of what happened to her through all of this insanity.

Somehow, Taylor's style in Red really inspired me to wear full bangs ten years ago-but Folklore and Evermore were the ones that made me incorporate the sad fairy elements into my everyday outfits for the last two years. I discovered that people call this aesthetic 'cottagecore'.

Although I haven't been listening to Taylor since "1989," she is still incredible. I loved her as a kid and now that I'm older, I can appreciate her genius. Speaking of 1989, with her titling the album after her birth year and cutting her hair short, it's like she was reborn. Love, love, love this video ❤
