And it was totally believable thanks to great acting from the great cast especially Jason Miller as the guilt ridden Father Karras, and the top notch direction by William Friedkin. Friedkin always said he never set out to make a traditional horror film but a realistic film about inexpicable events that were disturbing.

This is the revised version opening that was re-issued in 2000. Nicely done but the actual original opening showed the older Warner Brothers symbol with eerie sounds effects and after the title went straight to the blazing Iraq sun. It was much creepier.
@MATTDALOR1AN
@MATTDALOR1AN 10 жыл бұрын
I think the re-issue is better. If you haven't seen the movie but know what it's about, you're already freaking out that shit's already going down in the opening credits in Georgetown, but breathe a sigh of relief when it goes to Iraq.

This is such a powerful horror movie and so unsettling. The intro makes it one of a kind, the chilling sounds to the Warner bros symbol, then the house in the autumnal evening with the light in the window flicking on and off, then the couple walking past with no clue that this is the setting for a horrific tale. I always wondered if it was the demon making the light come on and off or if it was Regan and her mum exploring there newly purchased house.

After 50 years it still remains the High water mark statement that no horror movie could ever touch. The issues at stake are literally as old as time itself. It also depends on your perspective. And it has a certain flow that is one of a kind. Seen over 1600 times n it still gets under my skin, it's brilliant and creepy as Headley Grange or and as Iconic as the great pyramid of Giza. It was a different time. A time when free love n ZEPPELIN rule the known n unknown World...

The demon tells Karras that it is the devil but lies alot even Merrin warned him about this evil is cunning and mix lies with truth to attack. I like this opening scene lights out the virgin Mary then we get wisked to Iraq to see in daylight the demon statue and confront Merrin in two different time zones. Then whisked back to Georgetown sort of like following demon flight path to well back into bedroom window and back into the attic to make noises. Absolutely hate this re-Mix of the movie. If you listen with headphones, you can hear a low drone (like a cello) throughout this entire opening sequence that isn't there in the original. Cello cues abound in the director's extended cut, as well as other exaggerated sound effects. All to make the movie more appealing to an idiotic younger generation. Like they're all so stupid, they won't be able to tell that they're supposed to feel scared unless there's an abundance of extra sounds and cellos. Pathetic.

Dead on. Friedkin and the other movie brats lost faith in their audience. Everything became emphatic.

+oceantracks It's extended cut, nothing revisionist here. They just added some more scenes. That said I think the original Exorcist opening was smoother.

+Sanderus Uh....yes it's revisionist history...it's not the famous version of the film, it's a money grubbing cash in . There was reason they left those corn ball scenes out in the first place, and some were NEW scenes added that weren't ever even there in the 70s lol

Sanderus It most definitely is revisionist. Not only are entirely different scenes added in, but there’s CGI and the soundtrack is very different. Ugh

There is the way to prove that a person belongs to Satan. Hint: (1) Noah belonged to GOD. (2) Many people belonged to Satan. What is the difference between (1) & (2)❓ Be careful that a person belonging to Satan does NOT think that he (she) belongs to Satan!
