Just before Bobbie backtracked her story, Defense Minister Korshunov told her "do as you've been instructed, Sergeant." That's a pretty heavy order from her high-up superior, so her reversion to being a 'good soldier' and following her orders is understandable, even if it's frustrating for us the viewers.

Yeah. Holden and Amos had to come back and help because Melissa and her husband would have been killed otherwise. Even I wanna be and I’m a guy. Look, I lament the state of film and TV these days. Strong women only shown through the lens of guys being dumb and useless. The expanse shows EVERYONE in a positive light. Man, woman, black, white, Asian, Samoan, everyone. In the future, race doesn’t matter. In this show, I love the guy characters, the the women….. THE WOMEN!…. are the among the strongest characters and I love it. Drummer has been my phone wallpaper for over four years. Same picture. My wife said she thought I had the hots for her….. ummm no, she fucking scares me, despite her diminutive physique. She’s a force of nature, and get the fuck outta the way. I love this character. I don’t look at her like she’s sexy, I look at her like I’m proud of what she is and becomes. But also would be scared to be in the same room as her. But I’d follow her through the gates of hell screaming. She’s inspirational. Cara Gee really nailed that one. There’s even a game coming out based on her. For a reason.

Pronunciation: just like in real life, people pronounce things differently from each other. You do you 😁 If Amos and Holden hadn't gone back, those guys were likely gonna kill Melissa and her husband. It totally sucked but at least Melissa is still alive. Remember that Venus is pretty much the same size as Earth (just a little smaller) so that crater is about the size of Western Europe. I love Korshuniv telling Bobbie to "Do as you've been instructed." Great writing, to stop her continuing to tell the truth but follow orders instead, deftly done in a believable way (by the character and the writers). Pretty sure you're right about Errinwright being shook by news of the thing without a vac suit. Remember he was working with Mao until Mao told him he was taking his weapons research project to someone else, since Errinwright was unable to control Avasarala. Final thoughts: You should always watch another episode. 😁 I'm shipping Alex and the Roci. Next episode is another one of my favorites.

I hope you picked up some of the great attention to little details they have when making this show, like how the Martians walk with sort of a weird limp when they're on Earth like they're unsure their legs can hold them up against the (much) heavier gravity of Earth or can keep their balance with the bright sun (which isn't as bright on Mars) or the sky itself (they don't have much of a sky on Mars) shining down on them. And then the meeting itself was hilarious with the defense minister bragging about how they were all trained in 1g when he was in the military, so Earth's gravity is nothing, but then later on in the meeting they show literally everyone on the Martian side slumping on their seats all exhausted (by they way, an INTENTIONAL ploy by Chrisjen - who knows what Earth's gravity does to Martians and Belters - as a means of gaining the upper hand in the negotiations and getting them to agree to terms just to put an end to all of it). Incidentally, it's also the same reason she scheduled Draper's testimony all the way at the end after all the other meeting agenda items, which, as you see, works a peach in breaking her down and breaking down her Martian Marine training (and any possible "medication"). Don't mess with Chrisjen, ......is the lesson we should all take from this. I just love how this show mixes real science with story elements like this to make great plot and narrative points.

With Bobbie and the shades, I think it's just her being tired of being told how to do everything. I got the impression that her last CO was more the type to to state what needs to be done and leave her operational discretion in how it was done and now she's got the chaplain guy nit picking every damn thing while ordering her to lie. And now throw her KIA squad mate under the bus. But that's just my thoughts on it.
@AngeloBarovierSD
@AngeloBarovierSD Жыл бұрын
Her previous CO definitely had integrity and, in the scenes we saw, was very transparent in motivation. He explained his viewpoint and how it powered his decisions. Even when Bobbi disagreed, she held him in high regard and never felt she or her team were used in any unseemly way. Sure, sometimes they had a shit duty but it was always motivated by duty. Since his death, things have ... changed, and her duty does not seem so clear anymore.

@25:45 - Not wearing the sunglasses was her just trying not to show any weakness to the Earthers. Her life has been about being harder and tougher than anyone, and better than any earther, so she isn't going to use anything that they don't. For the windows, I think it is more about her trying to take it, experience it, and perhaps some symbolism that she is "seeing" earth with wide eyes instead of just through a limited view slit.

In the book there was no Melissa and dead husband story. The Weeping Somnambulist was a ship that had been taken by pirates then brought back to Tycho to repair and use for the undercover trip to Ganymede. Naomi was the captain, Amos was the chief engineer and Holden grew a bad beard and tried unsuccessfully to look inconspicuous. They were boarded for inspection at Ganymede by UN troops including six marines in combat armour. Amos gave the speech about them not being able to scratch themselves (that he gave in the TV show to the Martian marines on the Donnie) to keep them from noticing Holden who was of course was very well known. I think the TV version does a good job of showing Holden’s moral conflict but I really liked Amos’ distraction move in the book.

"Wherever I g_damn like!", she says with a smile. Avasarala is the ultimate super-b*tch-on-wheels and one of the best things in the series! Somnabulism is sleepwalking. A somnambulist is a sleepwalker. Venus is hellish with a thick atmosphere trapping greenhouse gases that make the surface searingly hot. The thick, greenish atmosphere makes it look beautiful from afar which is why it was named after the Roman Goddess of Love and Beauty. The Drake equation was developed by astrophysicist Frank Drake for the first SETI conference in 1961. It states the probability of finding communicative, intelligent life in the galaxy. The Fermi Paradox counters it by stating that one of the variables has to be extremely low or we would have been contacted already by a major interstellar civilization. R* (rate of star formation) x fp (number of stars with orbiting planets) x ne (number of life-supporting planets per star) x fl (number of life-supporting planets that actually produce life) x fi (number of life-supporting planets that actually produce life which evolves into intelligent life) x fc (number of life-supporting planets that actually produce life which evolves into intelligent life that creates a detectable emission) x L (the length of time such intelligent life has been emitting detectable signs) = N (the number of civilizations with whom communication is possible) Bobbi took off the shades to test herself. She wants to see a living world without a filter. New York Harbor is flooded to the point that Liberty Island is below sea level and kept clear by a sea wall shown in the credits. Glacial sheets melt in the credits. Earth has undergone ecological collapse. The Martians deride Earthers for allowing it. Resources are liable to be scarce with high populations and less arable land. Amos' descriptions of Baltimore are not pleasant. You infer that life is very hardscrabble for the average person on Earth. That's why so many are on welfare which the Martians ridicule. Avasarala and Pierre-Mao are the super-rich 1% elite.

Ganymede has ag(ricultural) domes on the surface as well as port facilities. The people mostly lived and worked underground but not under ground per se. Ganymede is covered in a crust of water ice over a liquid ocean. In The Expanse they dug tunnels multiple levels down through the ice and had a city there under ice. This is similar to the way that Martians primarily lived under ground.

If they'd been willing to take the fall for an accidental engagement without trying to count coup on Earth by throwing Travis under the bus, then Draper almost certainly would have just gone along with everything. Though of course this is assuming everyone in the Martian delegation has the same goals.

As others have said, the somnambulist in Weeping Somnambulist means “sleepwalker”. Arboghast is apparently a minor spelling variation of the proper name Arbogast, which dates back to at least the 4th century, including a 7th century saint who is said to have resurrected the king’s son, to more recently the surnames of a pair of famous mathematicians and an award winning cinematographer (ie The Fifth Element), and is also known for being the name of a character in Psycho.

They (the authors) deal out pieces of the character's back stories like cards. All we have to work with is the cards dealt so far and the starting point which is the Canterbury. Whatever their talents how did each of them retreat to the point where they're simply carrying water? Holden in particular can be a difficult read. We see the reluctant responsibility and that he seems to have retreated to being just a tiny piece of the human race and can't back away any further. His first move was guilt tripped but he keeps drawing from his time as a UN fleet officer. One thing our crew have in common is that through whatever they came through they seem to have been paying attention on the way. None were forthcoming about their lives prior to the 'Cant' so we 'can't' easily predict their moves. Avasarala has superb instincts and unerringly burrowed into Holden's past... Our threads are investigations driven by Miller, Avasarala and Holden. Good luck...

Bobbi is a MCR Marine. Though she trains in 1G (Earth gravity) in daily life, it's far less gravity. But she's better prepared for Earth Gravity (and probably light levels) than MCR Navy personnel, and far better than most Mars born civilians. She didn't take some of the things meant to "make it easier" on herself, because she feels the need to _know_ she can handle this environment. I'm surprised the phrase is considered idiotic and not understood "Never look a gift horse in the mouth" the gums are a good way to judge general health and age of a horse. A gift horse is a horse given as a gift. The phrase means "when someone gifts you a horse, don't go immediate looking at it's teeth to see whether the gift is old or ill, as doing so is an insult or sign of mistrust to the giver." (Wait until they're not watching you if you have doubts, no need to show them you have doubts) Closing credits... I'd have mixed feelings about listing a particular role on my resume. Even if it were early in my Hollywood career. Imagine you can list that you were on "The Expanse" [A very popular and well admired show], but you are credited as "Puking Diplomat" Most of the names were easy for me, largely because I had an interest in various mythologies when I was young, and they've come up over time in different places, so Greek, Egyptian, Norse and to a lesser degree Japanese mythos names helped me to grasp these fairly easily. As for Drummer, my biggest struggle was losing the R, as Camina is rough when you're used to saying Carmina (name of a dear family member of mine) When Bobbi is interrupted in her second testimony, and Crisjen says "unless there's something" Bobbi get a direct order, from the highest authority present from her chain of command "Do as your told" which could be read as "answer the question" by those who don't know, but to her, in that moment it was "You've been ordered to speak this, and testify it's true. Follow orders, Marine." I can't speak for the future, but let's be honest. Earth as it is at least up to 2023, is one of those neighborhoods intelligent alien life says "nah, they're killing each other, we don't want to pull over around here." on their road trip, let's just not leave the highway" And the whole idea of "advanced life would be detected by less advanced technology" is kind of a flawed premise. What if they never started sending open signals with significant range for fear of alerting some more advanced civilization that doesn't have "peaceful cooperation" in mind? To a certain degree, I can understand how the society of Earth would see the rest as "to serve" because if humanity on Earth didn't provide the technology and resources to start colonizing mars, there would be no Mars colony, thus no Mars government, and without colonizing Mars, the belt would be likely uncolonized. But that Mars and Earth are at odds militarily, indicates there was a break between the two, and Mars has stepped up to build better ships, because they can't match ship for ship without outside resources, thus they build ships that can 1v2, 1v3, 2v3, 3v5 and endure. If my enemy loses 2 ships and 1 escapes, but both of my ships survive to be repaired, it makes a war of attrition untenable for the enemy.

In the books, Prax becomes the social media sensation, garnering funds from across the system from all sources, since Fred cut them off financially. There is even a counter-campaign from the opposition to make him look bad. They take it in the worst direction positioning him as a p3d0. And, the whole element goes on for months. Also, shout out to the CGI of the interplanetary sling shots. Love the 3D appeal of the holo simulations.

"Sommanommanomnom" Great. Now I have this image stuck in my head, of a sleepwalker tearfully gobbling up cookies. 😀 The "Arboghast" is probably named in the on-and-off tradition of naming research vessels after scientists, or, more broadly, people who contributed to the advancement of humanity's knowledge, such as New Zealand's GRV James Cook, for example. The Expanse Wiki has this to say about the "Arboghast": (Please, avoid going there due to massive spoilers elsewhere in the article.) "The ship is probably named after the mathematician Louis François Antoine Arbogast (1759-1803) or the more contemporary mathematician, Todd Arbogast (PhD 1987), an expert in subsurface modeling."

@funnylilgirlreacts Again I do like your reactions to the Expanse and the professional way they are edited.😃👍 YOU KNOW NOT FOR NOTHING, these episodes are based on books (9 Books and 8 Novellas.) Surely by now your curiosity should be getting the better of you now and you should really want to know some future events regarding the Expanse. Again, season 3 was a major turning point for Expanse viewers. This was when the Expanse was originally canceled by the SciFi channel. So many of us as Expanse enthusiast had to turn to other source material to enjoy and to find out what the hell was going on in the Expanse Universe. (At that time I was doing a lot of driving and had the privilege to LISTEN to most of the Expanse books and novellas in audiobook form😃😊) Fortunately, cast members of the Expanse, The writers and the extensive Expanse Fandom rallied together in a tremendous and monumental effort to save the series from going off the air into oblivion. This effort was not in vain as the Amazon Prime streaming service picked ups the Expanse for 3 more seasons. Again, this IS the essence of the Expanse community that has embraced YOU!!😊 We are passionate,and kind. There is hieght, width and depth and not one dimensional in our thoughts and expressions. We are insightful and informed. As an enhancement to your videos YOU really should read or listen to the Expanse books (to be considered at your leisure of course). You will find them interesting.

@@funnylilgalreacts Thank you for your response 😃🔥👍😎 You have become quite the celebrity with your open and honest Expanse reactions!!! Many of the Expanse enthusiasts have subscribed to your KZbin channel and are re-living this fantastic sci-fi adventure. Unfortunately the Sci-fi Channel did cancel the Expanse. This is because they look for the largest numbers of viewers WHEN THE EPISODES INITIALLY AIRS and if the show does not maintain or keep the initial large numbers of viewers as to when the show first comes on the air, then the TV companies and cable networks cancel tthe show. (Advertising has a lot to do with this as well) This is opposed to the streaming services. They get the larger numbers over a period of time as individuals subscribe and initially watch, re-watch and binge watch their episodes.

The Queen Rules!! So the in-side man on the Arbogast (may mean foreign warrior, the name is ancient German), is something of a womanizer and she would of called on it and that was that, he still hits on and she ignores it. One last thing there is a tv star, who you mite know or you mite not know him, he gushed about "The Expanse" tv show on is own KZbin channel that they gave him one line and let him be one of the Arbogast's bridge. Now the Weeping Somnambulist (A somnambulist is a person who walks in one's sleep or under hypnosis). It is silly trivia I know but knowing is half the battle. So STAY SAFE and have a great day. 👍

Holden didn't cause her husband's death. If anything he saved her life, but was unable to also save her husband. If you really look at the cause and effect at play here, because Holden chose to go back into the Weeping Somnambulist and shoot it out, he allowed the ship to be around to save dozens more lives. None of those people would be alive if not for how this played out.

What i find funny about this situation where They prep Gunny for staying on earth. She has to take all those things, the bone density.. the oxygen shot.. Shows how much Mars postures against earth about its power. They could not even invade in a full scale due to their bodies no longer being adapted to earth atmosphere, and thus that's why they use suits with all that firepower. But still.. To fund an occupation of earth? and invation? Could never happen. They could blow it up... but then they would lose a lot more than what they would gain.

17:13 Back in the Old West when Buying a Horse you would check it's Teeth to make sure it did not have any rotting teeth. "Never look a Gift Horse in the Mouth" indicates if someone GAVE you a Horse (very expensive in those days) it was considered to be very rude.

Remember on the Donnager that Holden was willing to recant his accusation of Mars destroying the Canterbury, but the Martians wanted him to blame Naomi in particular. In this case, Bobbie was willing to lie about her squad shooting first, but the Martians wanted to blame Travis in particular. Both were cases of Martian bigotry. You noticed that Errinwright was bored with the proceedings until he was startled when Bobby mentioned the soldier without a vac suit.

So the show talked about the Drake Equation. To understand the science behind what the authors were going for we should talk about the Drake Equation, the Fermi Paradox, and the Great Filter. The Drake Equation is a way to estimate the number of technological civilizations in the galaxy. N = R* x Fp x Ne x Fl x Fi x Fc x L N - number of detectable technological civilizations R* - rate of star formation Fp - fraction of stars systems with planets Ne - avg number of planets per system that can support life Fl - fraction of planets that develop life Fi - fraction that develop intelligent life Fc - fraction that develop a technological civilization L - avg length of time the civilization is active Depending on the assumptions for these variables and length of time the galaxy has existed there should be several alien civilizations that are detectable - there aren’t. Which brings us to the Fermi Paradox. Where is everyone? Even with conservative estimates for the variables there should be somebody detectable around. Since there isn’t, that means something drives the estimates to be much lower than we think they are. That could be REALLY bad for humanity. The hypothesis for why there is no other detectable alien civilizations around is called The Great Filter. It assumes there is one or multiple “filters” that affects the term(s) in the Drake equation. For example if planets like Earth that could support life are extremely rare then intelligent aliens would also be extremely rare. If the conditions that allow life to form are extremely specific then maybe it rarely happens and again intelligent life would be very rare. Now for some of these terms our technology helps us make a good estimate. Astronomy gives us a good idea of how many stars there are and how fast they are forming. Since the 90’s we’ve gotten better at finding planets around those stars including ones in similar orbits to Earth. In the next couple of decades we can probably narrow down how likely some of those are to have atmospheres like Earth. The new James Webb Space Telescope will help with that. The problem for humans is what if the filter is on the last term, the length of a technological civilization. If it turns out there are plenty of habitable planets and intelligent life easily occurs again again, yet we don’t detect them, then something prevents civilizations from existing for very long. Something like most civilizations tend to wipe themselves out via war or environmental collapse. Or maybe natural phenomena like supernovas and gamma ray bursts happen frequently enough to sterilize almost all planets with life on them. Or maybe some advanced race of aliens sends some mysterious blue goo to your solar system that could have wiped out all life on Earth if it hadn’t gotten caught by Saturn. At any rate lets hope we are passed the filter since our civilization is detectable in greater than 100 light year diameter sphere via our radio transmissions. Which suggests we might not have much time left
