Clarissa's arc has been really lovely this season. I loved the interchange between her and Erich about names and how Amos 'found' her. I also really like that she reminds Amos "what would Niomi do" echoing back to the station and letting people on to the ship when the moon was shutting down. Amos hasn't given it that thought yet, or at least hasn't consciously done so and Clarissa wasn't there to see that, but it is an echo of the other time space was made to save more people.

One of the absolute best episodes (of the aftershow) to date. I loved seeing Nadine in person. Such an authentic and joyful human being. Her on screen presence is commanding, and her character arc is one of the more subtle, yet profound of the entire show. Second chances, or the ability to be better, means you're taking that part with you still. You never really leave it behind. Big concepts. I can't wait to see how Amos gets Jim to go along with this budding new relationship. :)

Wes, thanks a heap. I appreciate what you bring to Amos, and how he has been allowed to become more than just Naomi's psychotic co-worker. The slow reveal of how he became who and what he is, and the depth you give to that, are terrific. I don't think there's a character in The Expanse who is more clearly self-aware. Amos attached himself to Naomi because he couldn't trust his own judgement about when and how to deal with people, but over time, through his experiences with James and Alex, and more important, with Prax Meng, he restored a more normal sense of conscience for himself. Still, you are that guy. Thanks again.

I HATED Clarissa/Melba in Abaddon's Gate arc, right up until the end. Both in the book and the show. Now I low key have a crush on her. It's partly the writing, which is on point in this series... but there's a lot of praise to Nadine Nicole and her heroic performance too.

@@mikek9297 when she first appears, i did not actually hate her. You could understand her reasons for revenge. She is not actually wrong in what she was doing. She says sorry and cries after killing that first guy that tried to help her hide what she planted in the ship. There you see she is more then a killer, she had conscience. She was only driven by wrong reasons. When she gets on Tycho, i think, as prisoner, and then someone gets her loose because they need technicians on something, the very person she wanted to kill fro revenge, she helps by compromising Tycho weaponry if remember correctly, it was happening in season 3 inside the gate, and ashford was insisting in shooting the station. You get hints of her personality. "Show, don't tell!"... you do see a lot just be her deeds and facial expressions.

As a book reader, this season follows the book quite closely. They left out completely the Free Navy attack on the Mars Prim-minister and he escaping on the RazerBack. But that would take up a full episode. Would be cool having the Rz escape with 90 friends in tow. The ark of Marcos is greatly expanded than in the book but the near death struggle of Naomi is perfectly matches the book. If they had 13 or 15 episodes (double the budget) per season, they could have a well rounded show but doing great job.

It feels a lot more long and drawn out compared to previous seasons. I love this show but this season felt a bit lost to me, like they weren't really sure what to do with it. It should have been a really intense and shocking season but instead I just found it a bit too clean and rushed. I don't really have the production/film vocabulary to describe it properly I'm afraid, best I can do. Had some great scenes though, casting as good as always.

This show has very easily changed my life, I have trouble choosing what my favorite is, but when it comes to TV shows.. it's easily The Expanse, the Co Authors of the books have created a masterpiece, that being said I only wish the season had more than 10 episodes, I feel like i'm going to be left thinking for over a year about how all these storylines will finish, because I just don't see that happening with only 1 episode left, but all in all season 5 has been great, lot of epic experiences, I do hope that we get more conclusion on the ring gate, and the builders but i'm digging every second of it. One small thing I really liked about this episode is how it is demonstrated that Clarissa is serving as Amos' moral compass in the absence of Naomi. Whenever Erich calls the shots for something, Amos goes along with it because he's thinking like he used to when he lived his life like Erich still lives his, but then if Clarissa speaks up and says "No that's not what we're doing, we're doing this instead because it's what's right," Amos immediately trusts her judgment and backs her up. It's done so naturally that I bet a lot of viewers don't even consciously flash on it. Not a lot of attention is called to it, it just happens, because that's Amos, so of course it does.

When she was talking with Eric, she said something about how maybe if they didn't value people based on their usefulness to them, people wouldn't have thrown rocks at them in the first place. Meaning if they hadn't exploited and demeaned Belters and instead embraced them as fellow human beings, the earth wouldn't have been the object of a targetted asteroid attack. Peaches' journey is ironically toward the place where Holden was in season 2, where he told Fred that there shouldn't be sides. Earther, Belter, Martian... everyone is still human and should all be in one tribe, not several. The Pinkwater fight was always going to happen. Either you send the bully away without submitting and without establishing clear dominance (as depicted), and the bully comes back with his gang, or you kill the bully (or beat him and his bodyguards nearly senseless and let them slither back to their leader empty handed), and then the gang shows up in force to answer your challenge. It's not Peaches' responsibility that the island's security force forgot their mandate to protect island inhabitants the moment their comlink to the mainland went dead and instead declared themselves king of the hill.

I feel that Avisarala's prot4ests about attacking civilian targets doesn't come from just a change in thinking but from also knowing that attacking innocent Belters would only play into Marco's hands and drive more people to joining his ranks. She's smart enough to know that not all Belters are the same and not all Belters necessarily believe in Marcos and what he does. But if they start attacking all Belters, regardless of affiliation, she knows that Belters that are on the fence or maybe more in Fred Johnson's camp will likely change their minds and join Marcos. Regarding the military, it's really stereotypical and an old trope to portray all senior military personnel as being all gung ho and the only solution to every problem is to shoot it or bomb it into submission. In reality, military personnel, both officer and enlisted as well junior and senior members of both sides of the house, are much more nuanced than that. By this point in time, a lot of top military officers will have learned from lessons in the past that deliberately killing innocent civilians or even being over heavy handed with non-aligned civilians is a bad idea and just helps the enemy.

Also love how belter ships r like Russian subs with the pressure hull then the outer skin, with some services etc in between.... season six good place to finish - in terms of what happen in books - I still be gutted tho. Hopefully get the final 3 in a few years eh? Nice one all!

I just started reading the books this week, finished the 3rd today and waiting on delivery of the rest this evening. And EVERY time I read a line of Amos dialogue I hear Wes speaking it. Almost as strongly with Shohreh Aghdashloo when reading Avasarala. Not so much with other characters.

While I don't dispute any of the stuff about Clarissa and how you are the victim of choices and pressures that you made or were imposed on you, it's also important to remember Ren and everyone aboard that ship who will never get another choice, because of what Clarissa did. The end of the world as we know it might free Clarissa from the prison her choices that stem from her awful family imposed on her, but it did nothing for the crew of the ship she blew up to frame Holden and won't restore the crushed skull of a man who only tried to help her and look out for her.
