This episode gives a good “show don’t tell” of Holden’s ptsd from Eros. Anything related to the protomolecule just throws him into fight or flight. In his case, fight.

You are seeing James Holden go all Captain Ahab on the protomolecule. Much of it is the fear that comes from helplessness, but there is also the self-loathing created by having to destroy the Erasums over Eros.

No. Chappa's speech and the Belters' reaction demonstrate that Belters understand from childhood that the universe is not fair and that they have to accept the cards that are dealt and live with the outcome.

Holden basically has PTSD from eros and is obsessed with preventing it from happening again. I think killing the doctor right in 2x4 messed with him.

If they didn't tell you in the Discord chat, Errinwright says that the poison he used was designed to attack people using gravity drugs (i.e., Martian soldiers invading Earth) and it could be programmed for the genetics of a single individual...in this case, the Martian Minister of Defence. I think Errinwright had earlier decided to kill the Martian and destroy the Karakoum. That would keep that Protomolecule hybrid out of Martian hands (neither Errinwright nor the Martian minister knew it had escaped) and cut Mao's primary contact with them. I think Errinwright figured that would keep him out of prison. It would have taken him a bit of time to get that poison concocted and planted earlier. But when Avasarala told him she was meeting Mao, he realized immediately that he had a chance to get rid of her, too...the only person who knew about his involvement with Mao. On the shuttle up to Mao's yacht, Cotyar revealed his guilt, Avasarala revealed her fear, and Bobbie found a new team: Team ABC has been born. "Mutual Assured Destruction" was never an official US policy. The US policy was always to survive a surprise first strike with enough capability to return a death strike..."from the grave" as it were. As many times as I've seen "Scene 52," it always pulls a tear. Belters have always lived under the "cold equations." Every Belter probably knows someone, or knows of someone, or has heard tales of Belters who have had to make tough sacrificial decisions for the benefit of others. Given a chance to think, it's certainly plausible for these Belters to realize that the "cold equations" had finally come for them. As the Somnambulist was launching from Ganymede and being challenged by the Martians, Naomi was checking out her Protomolecule torpedo on her screen.

What he is saying: "We spend billions developing an enzyme to debilitate soldiers taking gravity meds." For everyone else, it is entirely safe. So if Martians land on Earth, Earthers could "poison" the water supply, which would affect enemy soldiers but would not cause any trouble for natives.
