YES! Please do a KO2 vs KO3 review.

I’ve owned both. Had great luck with the KO2’s on my diesel pickup. I was excited to get the KO3’s and bought them as soon as I saw them in my size. I took them off and sold them locally within 2000 miles. They look great, but rode like absolute shit in comparison…like I was driving on octagons. I had them rotated and balanced twice, which did not help. They were louder than the KO2’s and cost me 1+mpg. SimpleTire was unresponsive to my contact attempts and I hit nothing but canned responses from BFG.

Bought my AT3Ws (before the 4s came out) in 255/80r17 because they were the lightest E load I could get that still had good tread depth and overall off-road performance. I prioritized these tires because living in Houston and being a 90/10 driver I need better wet performance over better offroad capability. Although we don’t see snow, we do get ice 1-2x year and the whole damn area loses its mind, these tires do have good performance here too if for some reason I need to leave the house. Also, this size was extremely cost effective. Hopefully Falken doesn’t discontinue them. I’d also love to see these in 255/85r17.

I like the new Toyo open country R/T Trails. They tow grate and they have a 2 ply sidewall but it is extra thick so you get the benefits of a 3 ply sidewall tire but have the benefits of a 2 ply sidewall with the comfort, ride quality, and you don’t have the extra weight of a 3 ply tire. I’ve had my 8,600 pound truck in snow, Ice, mud, heavy rain, sand, soft dirt, and light red clay mud and they handled extremely well. And you can go through standing water approximately 3 inches deep at 40+ miles an hour with zero hydroplaning. They grip roughly good on and off road and they are not very loud either. I truly like them, for a R/T tire I feel they handle as good as a A/T tire on road and you get better traction off road with the Toyo R/T trails. And I tow a 12,000 pound trailer and they do great too.

I've had the AT4 s on my truck for a couple weeks. (wanted to get the 3s, but they were sold out in the in the size I wanted. I was also told that the 3s were being discontinued). I had the AT3Ws on a previous truck, and LOVED them. Then I upgraded to a 1ton and wanted/need F rated tires. But, I couldn't get/find the AT3Ws in F rated during stupid Covid year. So, I went with Goodyear Duratracs. They were good tires, EXCEPT for the noise after 5,000 miles. I couldn't wait to get back to Wildpeaks, when the Duratracs wore down. (33k miles......towing a 40ft 5th wheel that weighs 15k,-16k during the Summer.) So...... So far with the AT4Ws (35x12.50r20, F rated)...... So, so, so, so quiet compared to the Duratracs!!!! We've had a little bit of everything in Colorado over the last couple weeks....... Snow, ice, slush, wet roads. Yes, the AT4 performance on ice is not as good as the AT3. But, the AT4 s still did a respectable job on the iced over roads. On the snow, slush, and wet roads the AT4 is just as good, if not better than the AT3Ws. The AT4s are 12lbs heavier, per tire, than the Duratracs. I'm definitely seeing that decrease in MPGs. But, I didn't get my truck, or the AT4s, for the MPGs...... I got both for SPGs (Smiles Per Gallon).

This is the perfect feedback we love seeing! Just because the AT4W isn't as good on ice as the AT3W doesn't mean that it's not still GREAT! The AT3W was the king, so being that close to their performance is still huge! I love hearing that other people agree they do great in slush, wet roads, and snow too! I think you've got the perfect setup for the AT4W. Big ol' truck hauling big ol' things. Right where I think the AT4W will shine!

I bought AT3W when it first came out and no one considered falken as an all terrain tyre manufacturer. They cost me only $980 Australian (about $650 US). I've done about 56,000 miles and they are definitely due for replacement, although they still have some tread on them , they are just noisy. They have been noisy for a good 8000 miles. They have been a great tyre and offered excellent road grip in all conditions as well as good off road grip. I'd buy them again if they are on clearance

Thanks for the review - it all comes down to how you use your vehicle and being honest about it. IMPO I think Falken is responding to the off-road community with the AT/4W and it would be a huge mistake to discontinue the AT/3W as they definitely have changed the market with that tire in respect to on-road performance in all weather conditions with the ability to have a reliable off-road experience if you (your tool of use) are a 90/10 user. The weight difference (and cost) is due to the 3ply sidewalls, the 10k mile added warranty plus the higher load rating for those that tow both on-road and off-road. Still too early to tell how they match up in actual use. Thanks for the thoughts to consider when selecting. There is no one perfect tire for all applications - however there are some that cross-over better than others. Back to considering your use and what is your personal priority in that use.

Thanks for the review, I’ve been in limbo on choosing attire, my new ram 1500 limited has 22 inch rims and lame Perelli all season street tires, looks like car tires. I can’t seem to come to a decision on getting a 20 inch rim and tire Pkg or using the 22 rim and putting on a 285/50/22…… or the stock size. 285/45… Trying to fill the wheel well slightly better, I think some more aggressive tires would do the trick, but I’m not sure if you want to have a larger diameter from stock?? The air suspension on the truck limits me from doing anything crazy with the suspension, I won’t mess with it. Go down to 20’s and up the sidewall a bit back to the stock diameter? Or keep 22 and go slightly bigger.
@TrailBuilt
@TrailBuilt 3 ай бұрын
Both are viable options, but downsizing to 20-inch rims for a more comfortable ride with taller sidewalls will usually give a more aggressive-looking wheel. Because you downsize the wheel, the tire can have a bigger sidewall without having to worry about rubbing or damaging your new truck. Additionally, because you downsized, you can choose a tire with an aggressive sidewall, like the Kenda Klever RT, go a bit bigger, and get the aggressive look you are wanting. At the end of the day though, both option are good, and it's up to you to decide what you like more. Hope this helps!

I’ve been debating getting the AT3W for about 6 months then I saw the AT4W are now out & debating which ones to get. I live in North Dakota & go Hunting,Ice Fishing a lot otherwise it’s mostly in Town. Which should I get currently I DON’T have All-Terrain Tires on my 2022 Dodge Ram 1500.
@TrailBuilt
@TrailBuilt 3 ай бұрын
At the end of the day, we feel like you will be very satisfied with both! We recommend considering the key points and making that personal decision. Since you drive a Ram 1500, your truck will have no problem handling the AT4Ws. If you prefer a sturdy tire over better MPG, then the AT4W is your go-to! However, the AT3W will perform better in town. Both tires will get you to fishing or hunting spots, with the AT4W being slightly better for off-road terrain. Living in North Dakota, snow is something you have to watch out for on the road, and the AT3W performs better on ice, while the AT4W does better in slush. It really is a tough decision. If you want our suggestion, the AT4W offers a longer warranty and seems to fit your situation better, as long as you're okay with the MPG decreasing. (Sorry for the long answer, lol)

I currently run AT3/W but need to replace 2 tires due to an alignment issue that caused uneven wear. Discount Tire said “they’re close enough” - Is it safe / wise to run 2 of each model?
@TrailBuilt
@TrailBuilt 3 ай бұрын
Running two tires of different models on the same axle, especially within the same tire line, like the AT3/W, can be acceptable in certain circumstances. However, it's generally recommended to have matching tires on the same axle for optimal performance, handling, and safety. If you're considering replacing only two tires due to an alignment issue causing uneven wear, it's crucial to ensure that the two new tires closely match the existing ones in terms of size, tread pattern, and overall characteristics. The tread pattern from the AT4W to the AT3W closely matches but, the AT4W is heavier and thicker then the AT3W which may cause problems. It's not wise to do this but if you stay to the AT3W and AT4W mix you may be okay. Just don't mix with any other tire then the AT4W.

I just bought the at4w's a month ago and they were cheaper than the at3w's. The manufacture stated they were discontinuing my size so I went with the at4w's and saved some cash. My size is 325/65/r18. I wish I could compare the 3w's but never had a pair. I had settled on the 3w's until I found they were discontinuing my size. Compared to my previous ridge grapplers they are much more responsive on road and astronomically better on thin snow, water, slush, ice etc. However for off-roading the nitto's were tanks when it came to rocks and sticks. Still love the nitto's for what they are good at and still my favorite looking tire, however, the 4w's are definitely the better all around tire. Actually heavier than my nitto's which is crazy to me but still noticed a slight improvement in MPG, however, it's all about the smiler per gallon :D

@@Kylewraps I haven't looked at my averages yet because they are still pretty new but I was averaging about 10/11 mpg before with the 35" nitto ride grapplers, my lead foot and full suspension lift lol. Mostly driving around town. Can't really compare the MPG's on these hybrid rugged terrains to regular tires or less aggressive all terrains. They call the at4w an all terrain but its really a hybrid/rugged terrain. The more aggressive and off road ready the tire gets the less MPG's it will get.

@@TrailBuilt So I am running 325/65/18's which is a smidge shorter than a 35" and about 13" wide. I literally notice no noise at all. I never heard a noise out of my nitto's either. (at the same size) Both extremely quite compared to any mudder out there. I'd say noise is not a factor whatsoever with either tire but I run bigger tires with lots of sidewall and sometimes the smaller tires have dif compounds/builds. I don't expect the at4w's to beat out the nitto's when it comes to gnarlier terrain and mud. They will def come short. Curious to see how they do hold up when I can get on something other than snow though. But on wet/snow and paved roads they are definitely an improvement over the ridge grapplers but that was to be expected.

@@TrailBuilt I always felt that the ko2 were squirmy in the rain and snow. I had these in light snow and held up well. I had the ko2 in 285/75-16 so I can have a 33” but even those were slightly short. At4w are a true 33” tire. Prior to the ko2 I had Goodyear MTR in 285/75-16. Those things were awesome but always on back order. I prefer the GY MTR over the KO2 any day. I would definitly get the Baja boss but they don’t come in 33” pizza cutters. After watching tinkerers adventure on pizza cutters I decided to make the switch. I don’t drive a lot on my FJ now so it’s going to take a long time to wear through these tires.

So I went out with a group of 5 Grand Cherokee wk2s we had 1 trail hawk with QT2 and LSD running the AT3Ws and 2 limiteds with Quadra trac 2 running mud tires a summit with QT2 running mud tires and a Laredo QT1 running mud tires. Well the trail hawk kept getting stuck in the snow and us 4 other GCs on mud tires didn’t get stuck. And I was a huge fan of the AT3W until that day. The trail hawk owner got so frustrated that he had to keep getting winched out of stuff us 4 other guys just drove through with ease he just ended up cutting off mid trail. We were happy to help every time he got stuck because it helped us train on our recovery game and he just wasn’t having fun and decided he was done. So the AT3or4W series won’t be going on any of my vehicles. However I am excited to install my LT295/70/17 wildpeak MTs!

@TrailBuiltOff-road Hey guys so I know u guys understand my unique application for my 2015 lifted Scion xB and my Toyo open country at3 215/70/16. And I’ve been thinking if my next all terrain tires is, and a specific size I looked for is 235/65/16. I want to retain the same overall size. Which 215/70/16 and 235/65/16 are nearly identical. Which is a plus. So for my question to u guys is. 1: should I change from Toyo - open country at3 to Falken - Wildpeak AT4W? 2: should I go from 215/70/16 to 235/65/16 because Falken is the only one carry’s those size? 3: for comparison size for 215/70/16 between Toyo - open country at3 and Falken - wildpeak at4w, is the AT4W heavier than open country at3? 4: in ur opinion, should I stick to 215/70/16, and that the Falken wildpeak at4w has better capability than Toyo - open country at3? And last 5: is the AT4W are as quiet as OP at3? Plus. I love the look how aggressive the AT4W is. Way better than my OP at3. I mean should have make it more aggressive. Love the style,safety, and better performance. Also, AT4W now has 65k tread wear mile like the OP at3. Which is a big plus. And also, I live in up north in Illinois. My Toyo - open country at3 did very well for me for the last almost 3 years now. Still got a lot of life in them. I deal with my daily with no goin off-road involve. From rain, sometimes dirt road, and of course winter time. Just FIY.

That sounds like a wild build. You're looking at two fantastic tire options here. With the AT4W being a relatively newer tire, we do not have a ton of long term knowledge on them. However if weight is the ultimate deciding factor; AT4W 235/65-16 weigh in at 42.2# AT3 215/70-16 weigh in at 29#

@TrailBuiltOff-Road So here’s my question. And I will say I never go off-road and we don’t have an area for me in Illinois. Except it’s 2.5 hour drive and that’s not gonna happen. Which is the best all terrain tires with P-metric rating on mostly on-road? I own a 2015 lifted Scion xB, 2” lift in the front and 2.5” lift in the rear. With 215/70/16 Toyo - open country at3. I love these tires. They performed very well in wet, dry, the handling is noticeably very well. In winter time, it gets the job done and it works better. Now it’s not the best compare to winter tires. But in general, Toyo - open country at3 all day. Downside is they don’t have a very aggressive, just mild sidewall should. But that 65,000M tread wear warranty is awesome. HOWEVER!! I want to hear from u guys that what I explain, in ur opinion. Which all terrain tires suits better for my application? Should I stick with Toyo - open country AT3 with 65,000M 2: Hankook - Dynapro AT2 Xtreme with 70,000M with aggressive should side walls. Or 3: the new and improve Falken - Wildpeak AT4W with (finally) 65,000M, and it has much more aggressive should blocks. And it’s for my on-road application. Never go off-road as I said before. And what is the weight size for all 3 all terrain tires for 215/70/16 vs. 235/70/16 or 235/65/16? And are the sizes that I describe available? I want to hear from u guys about which one u think it’s best.

The AT3W will perform and look the best but will cost the most and have more weight. You may also want to look at the Falken Wildpeak AT Trails. They are great for snow and wet performance while also having a more aggressive look while weighing less than your AT3s. When it comes down to looks, though, that is typically a very subjective thing because it's all in the eyes of the viewer. So you get to make that decision. Hope this helps!
