I absolutely love scenes in movies that devolve into an organic argument or fight...when its well written and acted and directed its so beautiful to me to react to and rewatch. I come from a family of ppl who argue and say things that they regret so when I see these in movies its like watching a post mortem for me or seomthign lol. That dinner scene is just chef's kiss for me. Anwaysy love that u guys reacted to it

I absolutely LOVE this movie, and I'm so happy you watched it. I lost my Mom to cancer, so this movie always makes me cry, but it reminds me of my Momma so much.

This is one of my favorite holiday films. Emotional roller coaster is the perfect description for this story. This shows how messy and emotional life can get but at the core this family is strong and there for each other. It never hurts to have a cleansing cry 😭 from time to time. ☺️ Merry Christmas and happy Holidays to everyone!!

I watched this and felt like we never got closure because the whole family never got to apologize to Meredith properly. Offscreen I’m assuming they did before the mother died but it would’ve been nice to see it and it be more emotional. Meredith never knew about the mother’s illness either. I think a lot of things would’ve been different if explained to the other members of the family properly

Well... you don't know what it's like to be from a complicated family.... the thing that made the plot line with Meredith and Ben so natural was the fact that Ben was the scapegoat of the family so he's the only one that knew what it felt like to constantly be criticized by the family like she had been.... nothing he ever did was good enough for those people and nothing she did was good enough either.... the whole plot of the movie is all about how grieved they all were about losing the mom... yes it had to be sped up to fit into about 2 hrs of a movie... mostly the whole plot was where to find comfort when faced with the most devastating situation possible. Love at first sight does happen... my husband and I met on a dating service and the first day we met he said "I might not have to go back on telepersonals... I may have found what I was looking for." We married like a year and a half later and have been very happily married for 28 years and counting... part of our destiny was sealed that very first night. I really do believe that there is one person on the earth who I was meant to spend my life with. Only One man who would be the right fit. I am the 5th of 6 kids and lived my life as the scape goat of the family... before I met ron 4 of my 5 siblings came to me individually and said every problem in the family was my fault... actually they did me a tremendous favor... letting me know that I was indeed the scapegoat. I had always felt like I was responsible for everyone's happiness I was to blame for everyone's problems. I have been working on these issues for almost 35 years and I don't carry the shame of the world anymore. Ron had his own baggage that made him need a girl like me. His mother committed suicide 3 days before his 8th birthday. He desperately needed someone who loved him with her whole heart and I am that person.... our wounds are part of what makes our bond so incredibly strong... It is more far-fetched that the other couple in the movie was ok with connecting... it's just a tool that expedited things for the time constraints of a movie script... I was not accepted by Ron's family nor was he accepted by mine. But we found in each other the love that binds us to each other in profound ways... In Ron's family the exception who from the very first moment I met him embraced me because he wanted the very best for ron ... after the first weekend I met him Ron's grandpa called his niece in Idaho .... she told us later... Grandpa: Ron's got him a girl!! Elsie: you think this is the one? Grandpa: it better be cause she's a good one! I'm not sure what I did to prove that to him in just a few hours together. Nor do I know what made ron know I was what he was looking for that first night... What I know is that when you know sometimes you just know.

But you could see the instant connection between Julie and Everett.. were we watching the same movie.. they had so much more in common. And it seems that Ben understood Meredith so much better than Everett. It's messy but they all ended up with who they should have.. I definitely believed the romances.. And I loved the humor along with the drama.. it seemed real ... the acting was superb... too bad it was wasted on you two.
