Season One - Episode Three: "...And the Bag's in the River"
Episode Description:
Walt and Jesse clean up last week's mess and Walt must face holding up his end of the deal. Walt's DEA agent brother-in-law, Hank (Dean Norris), warns Walt, Jr. (RJ Mitte) about the dangers of drugs.
Episode Overview:
As Walt is hard at work helping Jesse clean up the mess that was once Emilio, Skyler’s cryptic inquiries lead Marie to conclude that Walt, Jr. is smoking pot. Though Skyler insists that her questions are just research for a story she is writing, her sister doesn’t believe it and asks Hank to have a talk with Walt, Jr. As the clean up proceeds, Krazy-8 tells Walt that Jesse has revealed some potentially compromising details about his life. But when Walt complains about his lack of discretion, Jesse angrily reminds him that he is responsible for seeing that Krazy-8 disappears for good.
Reluctantly agreeing to scare his nephew straight, Hank takes Walt, Jr. for a firsthand view of the drug culture. While Walt, Jr.’s reaction isn’t quite what Hank had been hoping for, their ride-along comes close to exposing Jesse and his meth-addict prostitute/girlfriend. Meanwhile, forced to admit that he’s been living a lie, Walt puts off any further discussion with Skyler so he can deal with Krazy-8. But after Krazy-8 tries taking advantage of his compassion in order to escape, Walt has no choice but to kill him.
As Walt calls in sick at school and Jesse heads home to see what ever became of their hostage, Hank’s search for a missing informant guide him and his partner to evidence that could lead them to the mobile drug lab. So, as his DEA agent brother-in-law gets close to uncovering the truth about what happened to Krazy-8 and Emilio, Walt heads home to tell Skyler that he is dying of cancer.

The creepiest scene in the entire series is cut from this clip. When Walt opens the basement door slowly and you just see his silhouette, right after he discovers he'll have to kill this guy. It's extremely eerie and one of my favorite little moments.

God Almighty, the Creator was manifest in the flesh. He came into the world to take away the sin of the world. He gave up his own life to save yours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for your redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him. This is the Gospel which means the Good News. Those that reject redemption will go to hell. 1 John 1:8-10 KJV If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. [9] If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. [10] If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. John 1:1-3,10 KJV In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. [2] The same was in the beginning with God. [3] All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. [10] He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. Isaiah 44:6 KJV Thus saith the Lord the King of Israel, and his redeemer the Lord of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. Revelation 1:17-18 KJV And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: [18] I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [9] Not of works, lest any man should boast.

So he actually doesn't. The way the scene goes before this is he goes to get the key and just opens the bin to throw a can in. As he does, he just glances into the bin and happens to spot that the other pieces of plate seem to fit together into most of a circle, with a bit missing. He then gets the whole plate out and tries to reassemble it - apparently hoping he's made a mistake and it's all there. The way it's presented, literally if he hadn't had the can with him he wouldn't have noticed and would have gone back with the key to the lock and released crazy-8.

In this scene, Walt is genuinely devastated at the fact that he took the life of not just another human being for the first time, but the life of a man who he came to genuinely sympathize with to the point where he seriously questioned his morals and the choices he had to make. Then, a year and a half later, he casually brings this up to Jesse again only as a point of pride, to highlight just how much of a monster he’s become over such a short span of time Just one of many examples of subtlety in Walt’s brilliant transformation over the course of the series

It's amazing. Breaking bad is the kind of show that continuously outdoes itself. The next great moment is the fulminated mercury scene. Easily the best moment in the entire series from that point. And from there it only gets better. Season 2 has the overdose scene, then the plane scene. Season 3 has "a man provides", the shootout scene with hank, jesse approaching the rival dealers, and the full measure scene. Really incredible how amazing scenes are somehow overshadowed by better ones later on. It almost doesn't seem possible. Amazing series. Wish more tv shows got it right like breaking bad did. At least better call saul is crushing it too

You could see the conflict and frustration Walt is having here. It's as though he needed to make Krazy 8 lash out and only then it would be justification to kill him. This here was Walt (still self aware and empathetic) and to see him transform into Heisenberg who doesn't even flinch to kill someone is just amazing. Great character development and that stands for all of the main and supporting characters on the show. Genius level production quality.

Rewatching this show after nearly ten years since it finished is just making me notice and realize even more incredible things especially now that I’m older and not a high school kid. All the choices and happenstance is so crazy like how different things would and could have been of Walt was in charge of melting Emilio instead of killing Domingo which could have changed everything as it was the moment Walt had to kill for the first time ever which you just can’t erase at all. It was the first step to Walt “breaking bad”.

I hate to be that guy, but if there ever was a moment in which Walter White "became Heisenberg," this is it. The bit of Walter searching for a way to stop then and there, the empathy he had for other humans, it died with Krazy-8. The betrayal Walt felt was all that was needed to cement the idea in his head that his killings are what he has to do, and he finds himself with this me or them mentality. His optimism and innocence, gone.

This show has to be one of the greatest shows ever created. I don’t see any other show that was this consistently good even for the off shoot series and films (BCS & El Camino). As much as I wish the show was longer, it’s just my selfishness as the show ended perfectly on time and with in best possible way. El Camino was a perfect gift for us fans wanting more that only added onto the greatness of this story.
