Gary gets into a foul-mouthed debate with the Network about the existence of humankind.
The World's End (2013) SYNOPSIS: Gary King (Simon Pegg) is an immature 40-year-old who's dying to take another stab at an epic pub-crawl that he last attempted 20 years earlier. He drags his reluctant buddies back to their hometown and sets out for a night of heavy drinking. As they make their way toward their ultimate destination -- the fabled World's End pub -- Gary and his friends attempt to reconcile the past and present. However, the real struggle is for the future when their journey turns into a battle for mankind.

A lot of actors who come across as naturally intelligent have a hard time believably playing someone who's kinda thick. Simon Pegg does not have that problem, and it's an unsung amazing thing. Gary spits in the face of inevitability and actually *wins,* and that carries over into the message that messy freedom is preferable to ordered authoritarianism. This is also Gary finally accepting that he has problems by saying "I ain't perfect!" (after Andy repeatedly points out angrily that "You're never wrong") as well as rejecting the allure of his youth (something he's been chasing for the entire film) by symbolically destroying his de-aged doppelganger. It's a twin victory. (Of course, it's not *quite* that simple, since the rest of the film is about the complex fallout from this triumph.)

God I love this scene. Most climactic scenes are extremely crucial for any movie, but every now and then you get a gem like this that somehow eclipses the foundation of the rest of the movie while simultaneously giving it more merit. It's the ringer with the heart of gold, almost too good to be true! I will show this movie to my kids and grandkids one day, as long as it doesn't end up on a blacklist for it's promotion of dissent... Seriously, If the Network would have been just a tad more patient, say another 10 years or so, it likely would have had it's way with the lazy, coddled, acquiescent people that are starting to take over the world.

Villain defeated by just saying "feck it" and leaving, one of the greatest endings in the history of science fiction, let's see Harlan Ellison come up with that. I mean, he kind of did sometimes (A Boy and His Dog) but still.

This is my favorite solution to the Fermi paradox. The reason aliens don’t visit is bc we are the more belligerent self destructive group of intelligent animals in the universe. Vv scary.

look at the ending of the movie ffs. stone age, collapse of civilization. loss of technology - not just smartphones and computers and whatever, but no doubt such things as modern medicine as well. have fun being someone who needs say, insulin to not die, because it's no longer produced.
