cricket hat tricks are incredibly rare, in Test cricket, it happens on average once every couple years OVER THE COURSE OF THOUSANDS OF MATCHES, sometimes as many as 2000 matches can take place before a single hat trick is earned. It's slightly more common in the modern era of cricket because of the sheer number of games that are played and the often in international play, you'll have two teams of fairly large skill gap playing where one team has a significantly higher chance at a hat trick then normal, and the vast majority of hat tricks are earned when teams are very unevenly matched.

The hat trick in hockey originated in Toronto with a haberdasher named Sammy Taft. If a Toronto Maple Leaf scored three goals in a game he would lget a Hat from Sammy Taft.

Hi I've read the expression "Hat trick" comes from the Magicians trick pulling out 3 rabbits from the hat. I don't know if it's the real origin but makes sense to me. Greetings from Brazil

In baseball, the hat trick is a bad thing. If a player strikes out three times in a game (no matter the pitcher) he receives the hat trick. If he strikes out 4 times it’s called the golden sombrero!
