The animatronics aren’t being controlled by the drawings. I interpreted the drawings as the children’s “memories”. Abby just reminded them of what really happened through her drawing. If you remember the therapist at the beginning of the film, she explains that children learn and communicate through drawings and photos.
@RancorSnp
@RancorSnp 10 ай бұрын
The one line I find very, very interesting is when Abby says "they can see you know, they know what you did". There's some depth in this line that I do not quite understand. I mean of course it is a reference to the games, where Afton would hide in a way that the animatronics were physically unable to see him. But the movie universe works under a bit different rules, so I did not yet managed to fully understand what does she mean by saying that they can SEE him now. But it's very very interesting and I am sure someone smarter will figure it out eventually

@@RancorSnpthe drawing thing lines up with the fourth closet, it’s almost exactly the same. if you haven’t read it, william injects carlton (one of the characters) with a shot but i forgot what it’s for 😭 but it makes him pass out. when he opens his eyes, he sees the dead kids, (the animatronics they posses are some kind of amalgamation) and there’s papers and drawings everywhere (my memory is bad sorry) he begs them to help him defeat william, and they say “the yellow rabbit is our friend” and carlton says “no. he’s not your friend” and draws a picture the amalgamation then starts attacking william i really hope that made sense 😭

Crazy how people online have learned absolutely nothing from the Mario Movie situation. People still somehow think Rotten Tomatoes is actually important to the quality of a film Edit: Whether or not you like the FNAF or Mario Movie isn’t my point. They should have treated Vanessa like the Riddler treats his daughter in batman. Her existence in the plot does explain how Afton was never arrested for all of the years he was doing the murders though. William not being in it more was because they steered further from it being a horror movie. I'd rather get the scenes of Afton secretly killing people in the back or trying to cover it up. He doesn't die this late in the timeline either. The games also give the illusion that the shareholders run the company and even Afton has to listen to them. Afton is already dead before the first game so who would have fired Mike? I doubt Henry was overseeing much by that point. Still I don't really mind a lot of the changes if they didn't sacrifice the horror elements to build a pillow fort.

I'm pretty sure they aren't put back together yet either. Which means they didn't completely have control of their forms either. They were basically operating on their need for revenge, but when they get fixed then they start showing their true nature that they had while alive. You see it happen to baby between sister location and FNaF 6. Afton doesn't really care about these victims to fix them so he basically just abandoned them for decades. So basically the movie did a terrible job by showing the animatronics this way. Completely ruined the vibe the first game had going for it. I would be more forgiving if this were the second movie, but not the first. The first game was perfect at setting the tone for the rest of the series. It gave future games wiggle room for humor. That won't be the case for the movies though. They have to fight to retain their tone now. It did do a good job of showing the events in the timeline though if you look past how badly it roasted mat pat for pretty much the entire movie.

or here's an idea: make a movie that can stand on its own two feet without requiring sequel movies to explain the plot of the original movie. Even in other franchises where the movies were always intended to be a series (e.g. the prequel series in Star Wars) don't intentionally leave you with key plot elements left unexplained. It's fine to leave some mystery of course, but as long as it's not something vital to the plot of the specific movie in question. In the Phantom Menace, we didn't know who Maul's Sith Master was yet, but we didn't NEED to know yet. It doesn't affect the movie whether you know or not who Sidious really is. But in the FNAF movie, it relies on the lore a lot without explaining things like who Golden Freddy is (you would be confused if you didn't already know that there are two Freddys), or what Afton's plan is (what, he pretends to be a career counselor to get someone who just so happens to have a child in their care with no significant other or family to take care of them, so he can lure the child to the pizzeria even though the child ending up there is a highly extenuating circumstance?)

Tbh, the only reason why the whole “controlling the animatronics by the drawings” made sense, because the doctor in the beginning told Mike about how connected kids are when it comes to images like drawings which connected the movie a little bit. The sleepover scene also made sense, because of the fact that the animatronics are literally possessed by children and wanted to play with another kid. The movie is trying to show that the animatronics are clearly possessed by kids more than in the games which isn’t a bad concept and the execution is alright, but it could lead tonal whiplash instead of trying to gradually change the tone with some pacing. My main issues with the movie is William afton barely having screen-time, barely having the moments with the animatronics creating suspense as they try to get into the office like in the games, and Vanessa’s character is a bit poorly utilized. However, I really, really liked the film. There are definitely flaws in the film that could be fixed, but I definitely enjoyed the film and I recommend it as long as you don’t put high expectations on it.

They are less problems, then creative decisions meant to cater to the people who have the context necessary to enjoy the film. It lacks context on purpose to cater to the fanbase, who like putting things together themselves. Also, some of the "offness" of the characters & story is most likely on purpose, both as a call back to the indie horror it originates from, because it leads up to the twists, because the fans have the context to understand what the "offness" could mean, and because the fans find it intriguing.

To be honest, I didn't like the movie. It is not a good adaptation of the lore. William Afton isn't Vanessa's father and they changed way too much from the source material. Also, I was kinda disappointed that Markiplier didn't had any role. As a FNAF fan, I thought it was a mediocre movie. Sorry.

Hey, just one thing to say: if there's one thing I've learnt being a long time fnaf fan, it's that when Scott decides to adapt the games to another medium, the story and lore is often quite different. The Silver Eyes for example, is a vastly different story than fnaf 1. I didn't walk into the movie expecting an incredibly faithful adaptation of the first game. And that's not what we got. I could put in a bunch of examples, but I don't want to bore anyone who reads this. Thanks.

This movie felt like it would have been better as a show, filled with secret codes and lore Gravity Falls style. This way they can have as much story as they want. They can have time to develop more scenes and give them the justice they deserve like the finale. You could have more characters and even use more references from the fandom like MatPat and Markiplier, and even tell the story in the VHS tapes way that truly brings out the horror in FNAF. Slap Tombstone in the credits with each season having a different song and you got a show.

6:13 When I saw that the first night was incredibly uneventful, I was actually REALLY digging the direction I was thinking the film was going to go in I thought as Mike kept revisiting the place, the nights would slowly get creepier and creepier, and Mike would slowly learn the tragedies that went down in the pizzeria, and as mike is about to complete his last night, finally putting all the pieces together about what happened in the 80’s William Afton appears in the suit Mike heard all about, the suit that he quickly learnt was used to kill all the kids. William being there to kill him, so nobody can fully figure out what he has done. Only ever inviting him so he can see Mike be killed because of him out some twisted irony just like he killed his brother. The murderer of his brother being the last and only animatronic he has to fend off as he fights for his life until 6 AM Like I would’ve loved if it turned into a semi detective thriller! With Mike trying to figure out what happened while fending off the animatronics as they slowly become more violent! As his morbid curiosity would keep drawing him back night by night, hoping maybe his brothers death has something to do with these weird cases. It would’ve been able to incorporate the Fnaf 1 gameplay while keeping it interesting! As Mike figures out everything that has happened! With general audiences figuring out the story as they keep watching, and dedicated fans absolutely loving seeing Mike putting together all the pieces to the story they know very well about. I’m fine with how the story turned out, but I would be lying if I didn’t say I would have really loved to see the gameplay being actually implemented in a very interesting way.

I just wanted the way freddy gets you when you run out of power to be implemented some way and that nightmarish look he has in the cameras. Ghost locking the door was a bad effect too. I'd prefer a giant ass security gate that covers the door until it's 6 as a better excuse to why you can't leave whenever. Also for them not to be our friends for quite so long. Would have been more impactful if Afton got the little girl and killed her during the movie when he was sleeping one of the times. Thus giving him a reason to become obsessed. More so than what happened to his brother that they either retconned or are lying about.

I think one of the scariest things about the game is how you never actually see the animatronics move (besides when they jumpscare you). It's honestly quite depressing seeing how FNAF fans treat this movie like it's the second coming of Christ solely because it makes references and cameos to things they like. This was the same problem when the BvS trailer came out and Wonder Woman was in it, all the fanboys were calling this greatest movie ever just because it had things from the comics in it. And apparently, the critics are the bad guys because the movie wasn't "made for them". Making this movie is meant to make FNAF more mainstream, so why alienate your potential audience by intentionally making it so you have to do research just to watch the movie? But the fnaf fans would rather turn off their brains to legitimate criticism because the movie has something they like? Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

The biggest thing that really drags this movie down IMO is how it feels like things were cut for time. The way the pacing is makes it feel like they had a 3 hour cut of this movie and then just started taking things out until it was 1.5 hours long. There is a lot of potential here, and its sad that they didnt live up to it in the way that it could have been amazing. I feel like if we had maybe had extra time to explain how afton is controlling the kids, more focus on the absolute atrocities of afton, and a sequence at the end that adapts the horror and tension of the gameplay of the games by having afton prowl around the pizzaria in the suit and michael having to use the cameras to see when it was safe to move to different rooms and set something up to ultimately triggers the springlock scene. As a diehard fnaf fan whos been waiting for this movie for 8 years, I had an absolute blast with what we were given and Im so so happy to have been able to see this come to fruition. The easter eggs, cameos, and set/prop design were top notch and everything I would have wanted (except for maybe a markiplier cameo). The drawing plotline as a simple explanation The spirits don't remember much about their final moment(s) and thus, their murder. Those drawing were a visual representation of what they percieved the yellow bunny to be before their demise: A friendly face they can trust. Those drawing don't control the spirt, only misguiding them into listening to what they perceive as their only contact outside of the few hostile trespassers, or pant soiling security guards who frequent the place. The one drawing made helped them remember, like classic ghost stories where the spirit doesn't recall how it died and need help to move one which won't happen here since.. he always come back! Now why would William change his mind and hire Micheal of all people? From what I understand, he picked him because of his last name sharing the one of his rprevious victim. Other people he hired were most likely weak, or cowardly which is why he hesitated hiring him and sent his daughter to keep an eye on him However it doesn't mean I though the movie was perfect. There is one specific plotline that (in my opinion) was dumb which was the aunt plotline. First of all, she never pondered what happened to the people she sent at the pizzeria and why Micheal kept his job. You could say she din't care about them (true) but to the point she doesn't question once their disapeareance or is angered by their percieved failure is weird. Second.. no one questioned Micheal why the woman who was taking him to court for abby costidiy was found dead in his appartment (or knocked out in the best case scenario. But it is heavilly implied that golden freddy radically took her out( making me wonder why he wasn't the first individual questioned afterward. And thirdly is his reaction (or lack there off) to one of his closest friend, at the very least one he trust enough to watch over abby while he work, and close enough to have friendly conversations

yeah the drawing plotline made the most sense to me, genuinely feels like a fnaf trope at its best. its a classic ghost story of "i dont remember what happened at my death" thus, the kids need a simple way to show what happened to them. its a simple and childish gesture like giving cake to a dead spirit on their "happiest day". i also agree abt the aunt it was very insane family drama and i love that in my medias, but it had absolutely nothing to do with the main plot 😭 her not wondering what happened to max and her friends makes sense for her character of being selfish and only wanting abby in her care, not to gaf abt others, but her being there just to send others to be killed and then DIE HERSELF is hilarious to me. will always remember doug the lawyer though he was funny i hope hes good

I did for a second or third movie. Not the first though. It would have been a lot better to set the tone as a horror film right the first time. Then you can add the humor in little by little like the games did. The animatronics were doing the angry family guy look. I can't overlook that. It's too damn much. xD

I think the movie was a hard balancing act to put to film. They made something salvageable but not without series flaws. Between keeping it kid friendly while making the opening hurdle to the franchise as low as possible for outsiders while also keeping it as a fan pleaser, it was simply impossible for the film to hold this all in perfect synchronization.

Yeah. And about that fort scene. I understand intentions, but the idea, honestly, is executed poorly and undeveloped. Because the fact that they are still kids could've been shown earlier few times even at killing scenes, but because tgey are heavy and stiff animatronics the things like playful jogging or doing a peek-a-boo will still look creepy af and the fort scene then will just make it more clear. Or you could've started it like a creepy or scary episode, like Oh no! What awful things are they doing? and then we see realisation Ow! They were just playing. Just because they are kids, it doesn't mean that we can't be scaried or creeped by their actions

I mean Scott isn’t a screen writer so expecting that of him is unfair. There are a lot of problems and this is a fair review. As a first attempt I think the movie is well done it’s doesn’t disrespect the fan base and tried to keep things relatively simple. The hood thing about Scott is he actually does learn from criticism and mistakes so that may translate into future entries if we get any (I hope the negative reception doesn’t prevent them). Seeing as it’s done relatively well at the box office I hope for sequels and the future of FNAF in a movie medium.

For one, the movie was not bad. I brought a friend to the theater who had no knowledge of FNAF lore, and had not played any of the games. He came away from the movie amazed, as did most of the people in the theater. Secondly, the idea that critic’s reviews don’t matter, and that they are bad and not insightful are not hypocritical. Indeed, one concept is required for the other to be true. If you believed that the critic reviews don’t matter, but they are insightful and good, your belief would be internally contradictory. The reason people should disregard critics is because their reviews tend to be bad, and can potentially negatively impact the performance of a good movie. This is noted by the critic’s track record of very poor assessments. Lastly, the critic’s job is to reflect what the audience will think about a movie, and can influence how people see a film before even watching it. This is why so many people are justifiably angry about awful critic ratings, even though they might SEEM to not affect the quality of the movie.

Or Mike taking his time outside of work to learn more about the restaurant’s history and the missing children. They literally cut out a scene of Mike researching Freddy’s and finding an old news story, which would’ve been more suitable over Vanessa giving lazy exposition to him. This film is definitely one of those cases where if you've been a fan of FNAF since the beginning, you're likely to enjoy it and come out feeling satisfied. Other the other hand, if you're unfamiliar with the games and the lore, you're either gonna love it or hate it. It was clear from the start for me at least, that this film was gonna be doing its own thing while incorporating specific details from the games like the spring lock suits and the missing children. I would also say that this film is meant to give us a sense of the world that this film trilogy could potentially give us. That way whenever the second film is in the works, they can work on where they went wrong. This was obviously done so that regular moviegoers wouldn't be bombarded with the chaos that is the FNAF lore. But I won't sugarcoat it, this movie is no Oscar spectacle. xD I would also like to point out something about the spring lock failure. The film actually portrayed it most realistically ironically enough. Logically speaking, if you were in William's shoes during the spring lock failure, you wouldn't be able to scream, or at the very least, you could, but very briefly because the spring locks would more than likely go off towards your throat almost instantly, leaving you unable to speak or scream. Instead, you'd be choking on your own blood. Of course, the film took some creative liberties when William said, "I always come back". But for the most part, the film did a great job with the spring lock scene.

I find the "It's made for the fans!" argument odd because of the film's massive release. If this movie had a small outing, like on a KZbin channel or straight to DVD/streaming, then I can understand the argument a little more since this release would be a little more "exclusive" since more fans than not will go to it. But this film is being released to a ton of movie theaters, a place where the more vital audience to a film's success than hardcore fans are casual moviegoers and average joes. You're pretty much INVITING outside people to watch the movie because you need them in order to financially perform. So in that aspect to me, it's fair game if said people criticize the movie.

I think a lot of the confusion about the lore in the movie is due to the fact that the story is more closely tied to the books rather than the games. The story beats with this movie and the silver eyes are very similar, especially the fnaf 1 restaraunt setting, the little brother being kidnapped in flashbacks, and the ending with william getting springlocked, the main difference being that the protagonists are switched around a bit and the security guard takes the place of the police officer, and the kids breaking in take the place of the security guard. I'm not arguing that this makes the movie any better, but it certainly makes sense why the movie was made in the way it was once you take the books into account. Another thing from the books is the importance of the supernatural drawings and the fact that afton has the ability to control the animatronics.

I wish we could just look at the film for what it is.

Pretty much my whole theater was meme-ing on the movie as we watched. When the one chick got killed, some guy shouted “Was that the bite of ‘23?!” And people lost their shit. 😂

Well this fucking video took the rose tinted glasses off. So, as an aspiring writer, here's my two cents. A main problem with the movie that I would have is that it has literally no thematic center, and that's why the writing and tonal shifts were awful. There could've been something said about not letting go of the past , and it could've manifested itself perfectly what with Mike's obsession with the memory, or any motivation William could've had or even why the missing children would've been vengeful. And if they get even farther into the series, to the point where most of the characters become undead, there could be an exploration of *where do we draw the line between "alive" and "dead"* which is such an interesting question that I really want to see asked. However. I really hope someone else takes over writing the sequel because Scott Cawthon, while a master game dev, is horrible as a writer. It's because he's what we in the writing biz call a pantser (someone who writes by the seat of their pants), and while there's nothing wrong with it, his problem is that he doesn't seem to edit anything or ask questions on thematic / plot / tonal relevance, hence the tent scene. And the tent scene could've been so much better with a slight change of choice. I notice it leaned too much into the lighthearted aspects of the animatronics being children, and if there weren't any quippy sequences (like Bonnie's thumbs up) along with the animatronics staring at Abby a bit too much to the point that it's unnerving, that would've been fucking perfect! But no! Scotty here doesn't like storytelling techniques that work I guess, and now wee have a beautifully shot movie with no thematic center, leading to the worst tonal whiplash I've ever seen from a mainstream piece of media. As a little sidenote, at first I thought the drawing was a thematic motif, but it was actually a plot device that ended up not making any sense.

As someone who is aware of the many flaws of this movie, I disagree with some of what you said. The Bonnie thumbs up is perfect to me as it is a nuance to the fandom memes. There's nothing wrong with them focusing on the aspect of the animatronics having dead children in them, they aren't exactly just psychopath Killing machines, they are children still. I do however agree that it was dragged out for too long.

13:28 frrr how you gonna hate on critics for doing their job yet you care about their collective score on the movie as if it determines the whole film's quality. If you like the movie, great if you dont thats fine. I see it as a movie with room for improvement. Theres always ways to make your film better. I think Scott knows that and I trust he knows what hes doing with the feedback for the next movie.

I feel like the movie might be a book situation too we’re they’re meant to be in a seperate canon from the games so that things just stay less tangled. So they all take place in the same universe just in their own bubbles that can feed into eachother. I’m also pretty sure the focus on pictures and images was apart of the dream theory book mike had and the thing the teacher said about kids understanding pictures better. I understand the criticism though, I did still enjoy the film alot (probably mostly due to the game’s being my autistic hyperfixation)

In Resident Evil: Village, there is a plot contrivance where the entire game could have been easily prevented if a single character told the protagonist something. The exact same thing happens in this movie.

As a long time fan, very disappointed in the movie. I was just sitting in the theater waiting for it to be over. It was just so cheesy and not scary. The story made no sense either. I don't like how people say "The fact that the movie came out is why its amazing" NO, IT TOOK SO LONG FOR IT TO COME AND AND IT WAS TERRIBLE. THAT MAKES IT EVEN WORSE. I had no biased, and i really wanted to like the movie. Didn't even look at the movie scores. I do not hate this movie, I just extremely dislike it. The visuals were very well done, and the sound design was too. (And the matpat cameo that was awesome) Other than that, i think its comedy movie of the year it had my whole theater laughing at the death scenes💀

The sleepover scene in the movie made me some of the most extreme tonal whiplash in a movie ever. I ligit started laughing in the cinema to myself due to the absurdness of the the scene. I understand the fact that the spirits possessing the suits are children, and we should expect them to act as such when they are friendly towards Abby, but I feel it could've been done in a much better way with less tonal whiplash Also, I'd like to say that the reason that Mike seems to move on so quickly from the death of his brother Garett, is from him realizing that he needs to let go of the past and focus on the present aka Abby. But, it's done in such a way that leave much to be desired The "I always come back" from Mathew Lillard wasn't bad, but just was kinda meh. One last thing, since I'm seeing this a lot: having to see a read a bunch of lore or see a 3 hour video to understand it all should not be requirement to enjoy a movie based on pre-existing media. People who are not avid fans or don't have enough pre-existing knowledge shouldn't have to do that. Nobody should have to watch every single SAW movie to enjoy SAW X. I enjoyed the movie as a FNAF fan, but all I'm saying is that it could have been better. Still watching the ever-loving shit out of this movie.

I 100% agree that the movie had MANY problems but I was having a great time throughout the entire thing, so I personally don’t mind those flaws. I’m really excited for the sequel. Perhaps they will work on the flaws to make it better next time. More scary, more fleshed out, more of an accurate representation of the games etc. Either way. It was a very solid movie imo. If I could be biased I’d say it’s an 8/10 but if I think about it critically I’d say it’s more of a 7/10 or a 6.5/10.
