The Forensic Science Laboratory's NIBIN Machine

N.I.B.I.N. stands for national integrated ballistic information network. Its database made up of images taken from fired cartridge cases that were recovered from crime scenes within Hennepin County. The St. Paul Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives placed the database in the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office. Information gathered from the database has helped detectives repeatedly connect one gun to multiple shootings.
