Hey guys! In this video I go over the classic video game known as Jurassic Park Trespasser! Without a doubt one of the most interesting points in the Jurassic Park History. Being the forgotten sequel to Jurassic Park that it is and due to the fact that a lot of new stuff from Jurassic World has made this stuff relevant again, I thought I'd begin my first playthrough of this 1990's PC game! Hope you all enjoy the digital sequel to The Lost World! John Hammond is always welcome back in my book! :D

It's a bit sad that this game was supposed to be one of the best games ever, but due to some technical difficulties it turned out not quite the way it should've .

Tamás Pákey honestly if the game was released a generation later it would be among the best games of all time imo and wouldn’t be as flawed. The tech available at the time simply couldn’t handle what Trespasser tried to accomplish. It’s the textbook example of too much ambition with far too many limitations. Despite this games failure it paved the way for games like it such as Half Life (the devs of Half Life do cite Trespasser as a major inspiration for the development). Many games afterwards utilize the realistic movement and physics engine that Trespasser tried to do but much more refined due to better tech. So in a way this game has influenced gaming more then you would think. I think this game deserves a remake as the current generation of gaming can accomplish what it had hoped and then some.

I played it on my first computer and the framerate was so slow I didn't get to the visitor center until weeks and stuff. It was only after upgrading eventually that I was able to complete the game. Still, I loved it, like when a raptor's head glitched to the top of a canyon, knocking off a boulder, which fell and killed it.

I took an indepth look at the Beta 96. Again. 1996. That demo was released in 1996. And on my system today, it looks beautiful. The physics are also very good. The shooting mechanic is better than anything made until the Spec Ops, Arma, and Battlefield games. It had issues. But it wasn't bad.

@@SilkenLuna Beta 96 is not really from "1996". Beta 96 is the 96th build of Trespasser, which was leaked some time ago. There is also Beta 32, 55, 97, 99, and some else which can be found now. Just go to the Trescom forums, there is a ton of data and information. Beta 96 was done some time in summer to autumn in 1998. But still your point is rigth. That game all in all was not really bad back then. To be honest, I was really impressed by it and I actually played it when it came out in 1998. With some patches, which can also be found on Trescom, it holds up pretty well totday actually. High resolution and widescreen really helps, enjoying this game... :-)

Treaspasser should be a basis for a Jurassic Park/World game. The idea of revisiting and surviving an abandoned island full of Dinos with horror and lore elements is too fun to give up on. I think the lore for Traspasser can be retconned in places, but Hammond's memoir and the music here is just too beautiful that I can't resist cannonizing much of it. It'd be cool if fans tried to remake this in a modern gaming engine. Oakwoods is kinda that.

Trespasser is among my favourite Jurassic Park games, in spite of its flaws. The story is pretty solid, the atmosphere and score were incredible and the gameplay was unique. Its going to be pretty cool watching you play through it for the first time and I look forward to part 2. I will say that it really deserves a remake, to overhaul the story so it makes sense within the film canon (changing some of the dates and Hammond's middle name for example), smoothing over the game's flaws and to finally realize the original vision the developers had. On a last note, it would be phenomenal if some of Trespasser's score was either referenced or makes it into Jurassic World III, especially the intro and 'Hammond's Mansion' theme.

Ah, the old ruins of what was once to be a revolutionary game.... Trespasser is an interesting game to me. Of all the Jurassic Park games out there, this one is definitely the closest to what I envision as my ideal Jurassic Park game. A free roam strategy survival game. Now, I'm not denying this game choked itself with it's ambitions. The game does seem pretty mediocre at best. Sure, some of it's features are revolutionary for the time, but like I said, most of them led to this game's downfall. Just couldn't handle it. However, that doesn't take away the fact that this game had an idea. An idea waiting to be brought back into FULL, and we can get one of the best, if not THE best, Jurassic Park video game. This will be a fun journey, and it's awesome to see you take it. Hold on to your butts!

It’s tricky to do, but you can actually carry three items at once in this game. I figured it out on my own just messing around. You stow the second weapon and then after you do that you use the input commands for grabbing an item. It’s a bit finicky, but once you get it right you’ll know as you’ll have an empty hand

Resident Evil 4 is another favorite. Trespasser is old graphics and some, awkard controls. But to the Jurassic Park fan - you get to walk around in the park after evacuation battle dinosaurs all the way to the top of the highest mountain on the island. BEYOND EPIC! I challenge someone to re make this - mostly the same with MODERN graphics. I can't find anything today where the game is EPIC while you are stuck in Jurassic Park. FANTASTIC game!

Trespasser is my all time favorite Jurassic Park game and one of my favorite games of all time actually. And ive been a pretty hardcore gamer since the 90s. Might sound weird but this is the best way I can explain it. Back when this came out I was probably 13 years old. Huge JP fan, huge gamer, huge JP game fan and huge FPS fan (back when FPS were fewer and appreciated). I didnt know about the game before buying it. Didnt know about the hype or the development issues. I just saw the box at Walmart and immediately begged my dad to buy it for it. Its one of the most vivid retail memories I have. I still remember the 39.92 sticker on the front like it was yesterday. And I STILL have my original copy and box. ITs one of the few things I kept storing away from my childhood game wise. When I got home I remember installing it and the first area they more or less allow you to mess around and get a handle of the controls. I remember at the time being frustrated like most but also probably because I was young I was super patient, had all the time in the world to play the game etc. I remember feeling amazed by how "realistic" the movement was aiming for" I was actually fascinated with just playing around with her ability to manipulate the environment and way I could. I really immersed myself into the world the game set in front of me. Obviously helps to have a big imagination too. The first time you walk past the dinos on the right in the valley where the music starts playing I was in love. Then the first time you walk towards a house and the monologues play... In the moment playing this game when it came out I just loved being immersed and lost in the world that it created. Very lonely, open world feel. I loved the story that was being built up. I just loved it. I honestly dont remember ever caring about the technical issues although I do remember some of the weirder bugs. I remember just loving the polygon dinos, the ambiance. It was like nothing Id seen. Sometimes things like that and the setting, visuals and music can save a piece of media for me (such as a movie or game) Ill be honest I haven't given it a play since back in the day so very possible it wont hold up to my memories but the nostalgia might be heavy enough to sustain it. I just loved playing it.

I was a pretty hardcore gamer by the time this came out. I was 16 I think and had Doom, Turok, Quake 1 and 2, Unreal, Duke Nukem, Goldeneye etc under my belt. It was undeniable how imprecise and unintuitive the controls were, but I still absolutely loved it. The large criticism came from people who had no idea what they were looking at. Even my 16 years old brain could still understand I was witnessing something special. Not necessarily a good game, but a technical show piece that was extremely important for the industry. I remember telling a friend about this game and the term I found to explain the game was "virtual reality"... lol. That came from all the interactions you had with the physics and how you could control your arm to pick up objects and examine them. Even harder was trying to explain the ragdoll physics.. nobody knew how to call it. I was trying by telling him there were no animations on the Dinosaurs.. they were built with a skeleton and joints like a real animal and programed how to walk, so they physically move their legs in order to walk rather than sliding from point A to point B while a cycle animation plays like every game of the era. I even used chaos theory to explain the physics when a dinosaurs dies and roll down a cliff. My 16 years old mind didn't care if the game itself wasn't great.. there was so much to be appreciated there. You don't understand. We didn't even know what real time physics were... Throwing stuff like that and knocking things off.... It would take several years till Half-Life 2 would explore what this game was already on. Edit: Collision.. I forgot about collision. Dinosaurs could bump into each other.. lose their balance, fall over and get back up without any key framed animation.. just by physics alone. What idiot would hate a game that done this in 1998? You may not enjoy the game, but you can't hate such technological ambition... Also.. how you can tap a raptor in the head with your little hand and make a little slap sound as your hand collides with it.. I'm getting hype. I need to play this again. Bye.

Trespasser’s plot has good novel potential. To be honest, I think adapting the game into a novel is the thing that’ll fix Trespasser. It could be told in first person by Anne and she can describe trying to survive on the island. While I never played this game, I’ve always been fascinated by it. The idea of one person trying to survive on a dinosaur infested island is quite interesting to me. The good thing about this idea is no need for programming and trying to fix a glitchy unfinished game. So yeah, I say turn Trespasser into a book.

Another great video man! I have been watching your work for a long time now, but never really commented. Just wanted to say thank you for your hard work and outstanding content. Keep up the good work! I will be joining the patreon thing and start supporting your work. I never knew this game existed so this was awesome to see. Unreal how good the graphics were for how old it is! Egerly waiting to see the next part! Cheers eh!

OMFG!! THE NOSTALGIA!!! I actually still own my copy of this game. I LOVED playing it as a kid. Don't believe I ever beat it, but did get a little far. I can't wait to see you face your first T-Rex. Also, I am guessing the coding mixed with modern PCs causes the Brachys to move faster cause I am pretty sure they were actually super slow in the original.

the reason why the islands have such diversity in the amount of biomes is due to the islands having their own weather systems allowing there to be jungle and red wood forests.

I discovered this game back in 2008 or so when I was still in middle school. I invited a bud of mine over and the two of us played it. We both really dug it. I still really love this game, and find it strangely a lot more enjoyable of a game than the vast majority of fps games from the 90s. The overall atmosphere and tone of the game is great, doing a great job of evoking what it would be like to be alone and traveling across Site B. It's equal parts serene, somber, and spooky. Good stuff. The Lost World had some great games. I really enjoyed this, Chaos Island (which I played all the time when I was really young), and the Genesis Lost World game.

Trespasser needs a remake. With Jurassic's popularity making a comeback because of JW, a remake could be feasible.

This is the first video game I bought. I never completed it and some sounds didn't play like the guns or dinosaur roars. But dam it blew my mind, the massive levels, the jungle sounds, completely physics based interactions, and the utter caos and unpredictable interactions that resulted, really made me feel in the island and scared the crap out of me every time a raptor appeared. It is still my favorite game ever. I recommend you to remove the texture softener, the blocky pixels look gorgeous. Cheers!

I remember being so hyped for this game to come out. Once it did, it ran like crap and had quite a few bugs. I spent a lot of money on my PC upgrading everything until it was playable and ran decently. I played through it many times. I would still love to see a JP themed open world survival game come out. I would buy it in a heartbeat. For it's time, Trespasser blew me away with what you could actually do, but doing it wasn't so easy sometimes. Controlling her floppy hand could be frustrating when trying to aim quickly. Still, it was groundbreaking in terms of physics (for the time) and I am glad I got to experience it!

Another awesome video Klayton! I’ve heard of this game before but this is the first time I have seen gameplay. I really like that you have included some interesting background information about the making of the game as well as the play through. In my opinion there are too few FPS/survival Jurassic Park games. I’d love to see a game like this for current PC hardware, it would look incredible.

As a veteran of this game (grew up playing it) I hope you'll play it through to the end. This game will test your patience at many points, the pacing may seem off and the controls and physics may grind your gears, but please bear with it until the end. It truly is a charming game you won't regret finishing.
