Governments are not good at controlling anything, everything ends up being run by vast bureaucracies each seeking to enlarge it's empire and hindering progress in the process. My wife and I have struggled to buy and own our property, we've gone without and we've lived rough but we got there and wow was the struggle worth it! God have mercy on today's kids.

Capitalism rewards those who are able and willing to provide the needs and desires of others. Socialism appeals to those who know they have nothing of value to offer others, and to those who exploit the deep envy this creates, in order to obtain political power. Self ownership, responsibility, and freedom are at the core of Western civilization.

However, it's interesting how Japan is different. Children clean their classrooms, homeowners clean the nearby street and sidewalk and sports fans bring trash bags and clean up stadiums. We need private property rigts , but we need a social ethic where people care for common areas like schools, sidewalks and stadiums. Japan has private property, yet the people respect and care for public areas.

Actually, what made Australia special was the high level of community ownership. South Australia was the first to pass an incorporated associations Act in 1858, and this laid the legal framework for people to buy and sell land and own assets collectively. It enabled communities to build and manage their own hospitals and other assets (with government subsidies), exercise local authority and take actual part in the democracy. The participatory nature of Australian democracy was a huge point of pride to early 20C Australians. Cooperatives were the other, less legally onerous, means to community ownership. Now, the government has a finger in every pie and local government and what remains of our management boards are mere rubber stamps for the State. And it shows.

How is this not taught in schools - we enjoy property rights for now but incompetent and fiscally irresponsible politicians who keep giving away our hard earned tax dollars are now looking to tax capital gains on our homes which have taken a lifetime of work to accrue and are increasing every conceivable cost associated with owning/maintaining a home so we have zero purchasing power - all leadership in the west must go - they’ve sold us out to socialist/communistic ideologues working very diligently at dividing us, incrementally stripping away rights and bringing our societies down - push back now or never

No system is perfect and I very much doubt that it ever will be. We should try to implement the system that works the best and limit the tendencies for corruption, the kind or corruption that companies like Blackrock or individuals like Soros or Klaus Schwab would impose. History has shown that if given the chance, humans will take advantage of any given situation and it's up to us to fight for the freedom and strength to fight that type of social rot.
@dallassukerkin68783 ай бұрын
That is one of the examples of what happens if the 'free market' does not have some restrictions placed upon it. Any colony of anything that grows too large poisons the environment it grows in - that is true of bacteria and bankers. The problem represented by the likes of Blackrock is the mistake that was the creation of Corporations as a legal entity - they are immortal, so they never stop gathering resources to themselves and, at some point, their size exceeds the level of growth in the economy at large and they start to feed on smaller businesses.

Leave us not forget that private property is protected by governments. After all, the government could say, "hey, we're not in the business of interfering in the private sector, you guys sort it out." Somehow I think that if property owners were given the option of operating that way, or accepting the government interfering to protect their property, they would choose the latter. So they really like private property, as long as there's someone protecting it for them.

It's a balancing act. Bringing into play such concepts as the government being the sole/primary wielder of lethal force within a society is one way of ensuring the impartial guarantee of safety and order for that society. If businesses also possess that right then you get things like the East India Company arising, with all the problems that enterprise illustrates.
@throckmortensnivel28503 ай бұрын
@@dallassukerkin6878 You don't have to go back as far as the East India Company. In the USA, the CIA backed US companies in foreign lands, specifically in Latin America. Read "Century of the Wind", by Eduardo Galiano to get an idea of the close relationship between governments and business.

Owning property isn't Freedom, its taking what isn't yours and trying to lay eternal claim to it. People shouldn't own land, the planet belongs to none, people should simply occupy and respect based on their needs. This idea that we own the world is what is wrong with humanity.

Things may have changed a bit since 1997 in the way of global population and arable land area, but things would have changed even more since Hayek wrote Serfdom, so don't blame me. In 1997 I worked out that in fairness to all living people you can have twenty-five(25) acres per head of arable land, which makes a hundred (100) acres for a family of four, which might be split into sections so you could have maybe a quarter acre on the beach and then a number of individual, famly or communal divisions in locations around the planet in different hemispheres and climates on different continents, or maybe all in the one place if things worked themselves out that way. Considering, however, the hundreds or thousands of living animals or plants of each of the hundreds or thousands of different species also living on that twenty-five acres, you could rightfully clear about one square foot to do whatever you like with. So make sure to use your imagination, Mr Anderson.
