Finding that secret tunnel after fighting Mohg the omen has to be one of the creepiest moments in the game for me. Hearing that merchant play his instrument as you pass by hundreds of corpses who look like they all died agonizing deaths was creepy as hell.

It also makes sense that Mohg (or a projection of him) is there guarding the entrance. He doesn't want potential future Elden Lords to meet with the Three Fingers and end up burning everything down. He's still working on usurping the throne and building his own dynasty. We learn from Varré that in order to join Mohgs order of knights any aspiring would-be Elden Lord would have to kill their maiden as part of the ceremony. It is only because we are maidenless that Varré skips this part. Ironically, we bring him a cloth stained with the blood of Vykes maiden. So it is possible that Vyke was actually a knight of Mohg before meeting the Three Fingers or simply that the Three Fingers were already way ahead of Mohg and had manipulated Vyke into meeting them through Shabriri. The killing of one's maiden was supposed to be an insurance policy devised by Mohg, because he knew that they were meant to be sacrificed as kindling to burn the Erdtree, which he ultimately did not want to happen. Remember he was planning to usurp, not destroy. As with everything Mohg did however, it was ultimately destined to fail. It seems he could not imagine any potential future Elden Lord sacrificing themselves instead of their maiden as kindling, which is ultimately what the Frenzied Flame ending is.

The problem is The Greater Will and The Frenzied Flame is the solution, plain and simple. The only 2 endings that REALLY matter, are Ranni and Frenzied Flame.

I really loved how Shabriri convinced me, in my heartache after finding out Melina would come to sacrifice herself to burn the Erdtree, to inherit The Frenzied Flame. Melina would then leave me anyway saying it would be her lifes mission to kill me. I just loved how to devs designed for that to happen, it led me down an entire new path of trying to get Miquellas needle to reverse the Frenzied Flame but all I was left with was nothing.

Well you find a bunch of other (dead) two fingers, and there’s that part where the Two Fingers communes with the “greater will” (itself originally part of the One Great) as if it’s some some of master, so probably not. I do think you’re right about the fingers originally being combined because the finger placement definitely does fit. Edit: it is possible that the “greater will” is just the like, collective mind of all the two fingers, but, then again, it’s said that all of the outer gods including the greater will are from outside the lands between, so they’re probably just its avatars. Thinking about it again tho, maybe they were never one hand at all, and have ‘always’ been split as a reflection of the division of the One Great? Like, they first came into existence with its division, as avatars of different, countervailing dimensions of the One Great.

Judging from the Greater Will's obsession with Order, the Frenzied One (let call it that) is obsesses with Chaos. I theorized that: Both are two sides of the same coin, and did co-exist alongside one another for a long time but the Greater Will severs itself from the Frenzied one and send its vassal, the Elden Beast, the Erdtree and the Two Fingers, to The Land Between. The Elden Beast is the embodiment of Order and the runes inside of it govern natural order of The Land Between, which is known as the Elden Ring. So the Frenzied one send its will in form of the Three Fingers and a disease to a man with no eyes, Shabiri. Now that i think about it, people who has no eyes or have very poor eyesight can see and percieve the Frenzied One's will. Once you are burned with the Frenzied Flame, you will be under its influence as an agent of chaos. The Frenzied one seeks to destroy the Greater Will's creation to bring it all back to the way they were. The way all things were, which i think, is nothingness. No more life and death, no more cycle, no more order and chaos. Everything is connected, and cancel out each other before braching into something thus becoming one, the true Balance. Or it could be a reference to George, as the Greater Will who created the story of The Land Between while Miyazaki, the Frenzied One, seeks to destroy it with chaos.

@@Trakesh It is a form of singularity where equal amount of creation and equal amount of destruction happen at the same time. A short but endless loop of absolute balance which leads to nothingness. This is actually in line with what Hyetta told us, the Frenzied One seeks to melt all things into One again. No more fractures, no more birth, thus ending all strife and suffering which is a mistake of the Greater Will. One Great could mean 'space' or 'universe', not as a being but a concept of singularity.

Missing the part that Hyetta is also a chaos agent, as she only appears after Irina's questline using Irina's body. She was behind Irina's demise and furthermore, she led you to eliminate Irina's father in the revenger shack. She did not flat out like Shabiri about using other people's bodies which fool players into committing unspeakable acts while Shabiri only tells the player to meet three fingers.

Yeah idk exactly what they're relation is. Hyetta doesnt seem to be lying and sounds to have been eating the shabriri grapes for a long time. This paired with irina's corpse remaining where she died makes it seem pretty clear that they're two different entities, but so similar in appearance and both blind? Perhaps they're both twins? Furthermore, perhaps its not irin's death that causes hyetta to appear, but the onset of Edgar's madness. After all, he is the source of at least one shabriri grape that Hyetta needs.

If you put the Three Fingers and Two Fingers together, they seem to be two halves of one large hand. Symbolically, it implies that Order and Chaos came from the same source, but inevitably split due to contrasting ideologies. Not sure if its ever explicitly pointed out in the lore, but its a cool detail nonetheless.

Lots of interesting points you brought up that I never really thought of while reading up lore on the Frenzied Flame. When you mentioned Vyke's armor though, I got a great theory. Vyke was on the path to become Elden Lord, so he would have needed to have lit the flame at the mountaintops to burn down the Erdtree. However, Shabriri came to him, just like he did to us, and revealed to him that his maiden would have to be used as kindling for the flame to start. Shabriri was able to guilt trip him into becoming the kindling himself, because Vyke didn't want his maiden to die. I assume this because his armor says "did he make his choice for his maiden?" Though Vyke was somehow unable to become the Lord of Chaos and he went mad with the Frenzied Flame. I think he took audience with the Three Fingers just like he was told to, but didn't go naked like we do during our anointment of the chaos flame. You can see that Vyke's armor set has fingerprints on him similar to the fingerprints we are burned with when we are taken by the Three Fingers. Maybe Vyke went in with full armor, and because of that the Three Fingers weren't able to properly imbue the flame within him, and Vyke in turn went mad. That might be the reason as to why we're forced to go naked to open the door to the fingers, since the Three Fingers don't want another Vyke to happen.

It's a good theory but i think other wise, we saw a dead maiden inside the church that Vyke attacked us so it's might be that Se died for some reason and hence Vyke have no way of burning the Erdtree anymore and had to follow the path of Chao and then can't bear it and consumed by madness. Edit: Now that i think about it, i agree with your theory, it probally that he went 3 fingered trying to save his maiden and then killed her because of a combination of losing his mind and his maiden abandoning him (she is finger maiden -> again the Chao). The 3 fingers ending is the coolest though, feel like i am the real villian.

The description of the Frenzied Flame ending says that everything will mix back together. Crucible incantations are said to be from the “primordial erdtree” when all life was mixed together. Crucibles in real life are things that contain hot objects. Is it possible that the Crucible is related to the frenzied flame?

It's interesting seeing that a full hand are divided in to two order, and only both the giant's flame and frenzied flame are the ones that are able to burn the Erdtree, meaning both are each Pyromancy of he other

If you listen to the flames in both cutscenes with and without melina, they make the same roaring noise the flame of frenzy makes. im pretty sure the giants flame and frenzied flame is one and the same. the fell god is something completely different as it seems like thats where they borrowee power from during the war

I think its very clear the Giant’s Flame and Flame of Frenzy are different entities, just based off of visuals alone, as Frenzy flame is clearly much yellower. The giants received their flame abilities from a one eyed God, we know this from the fire incantation names and descriptions. I believe its implied that the One Eyed Fell God used the Fire Giant as a vessel. The Fire Giant has white, empty eyes (no soul), and in phase 2 reveals a SINGLE enormous eye. The One Eyed Fell God is nestled within the body of the Fire Giant, just as the Flame of Frenzy nestles within us.

Especially since the Omens, who are close to primordial, become cancerous growths without any structure. The mistake was assigning an order to life, and the frenzied flame will fix this by burning everything down.

Very excited for this one. My first playthrough I did the lord of the frenzied flame ending, somewhat accidentally. Honestly, I feel like i was manipulated into doing that ending by shabriri and that feels so cool! I missed a lot of the lore about the frenzied flame my first time though so I was an ignorant tarnished that the frenzied flame took advantage of by having shabriri guilt trip me over sacrificing Melina. I feel Shabriri is actually a cosmic entity similar to Nyarlathotep, where he was originally meant to be a messenger for the greater will but instead chose to side with the 3 fingers to spread chaos with glee. Shabriri used Yura’s corpse as a vessel because he doesn’t have a form that can fit into the thin veil of reality to convince people into partaking in the frenzied flame

It seems like the Outer Gods tend to choose intelligent creatures to act as their prophet/vessel. For the Greater Will, it was Marika. Ranni wanted to become the Moon God's. Mohg tried to make Miquella the vessel for the Formless Mother. The God of Rot chose/cursed Malenia. For the Dragon God, it was Placidusax (to be specific, Placidusax was the Lord consort, and the real vessel may have been Greyoll) and for the Frenzied Flame, it is Shabriri.

This matches well with my running theory. My idea is that the Greater Will imposed various restrictions on the primeval current (the One Great), and tried to use these structures to impose the Golden Order upon the Lands Between. This is somewhat borne out by hints that sorceries and incantations are different manifestations of the same thing. The reason the Golden Order prefers incantations to sorcery, froze the stars, and waged war against everyone else is to conceal the fact that their thing is not the single truth that stands above all others, but merely a set of rules made up by one Outer God and its agents. Wiping out the competitors is the best way to sell this illusion. The structure imposed in this way caused problems: the order created hierarchies, rules, the notion of sin and punishment, grace and the lack thereof. The devotees of the Frenzied Flame are mostly powerless peasants who received a raw deal in this order, and wanted to burn it all away, preferring death to an endless existence at the bottom. The Frenzied Flame exists as the opposite principle of the Greater Will: instead of imposing order, it wants to remove it, returning everything to the undifferentiated form of the primeval current.

I wanted to mention something since you’ve been talking about them so much. I’m like 90% sure that there have been multiple Two Fingers. Ranni kills hers, and there are several husks on top of the towers. I think before the shattering or something, there were more than one, who looked to guide people with the teachings of the Greater Will. Which is why I think the Gloam-eyed queen wasn’t a servant of the greater will, but someone more like Ranni, who rejected it and wanted to go against the Greater Will. It’s also stated that the Frenzy Flame is the influence of an Outer God. Like bloodflame is the flame of the formless mother. Which leads me to believe that the One Great was taken apart, shattered into the outer gods. The one who took the most power being the Greater Will. So like the Greater Will’s Two Fingers, the flame of frenzy’s god has the Three Fingers

The frenzied flame ending is much like how evangelion ends in the movie, everyone in the world came from a primordial soup but was separated by creation and the gods. The mistake was this separation which brought torment, dispair, sin, etc. The frenzied flame is meant to be used to melt everything into one again. I think shabriri isnt as manipulative as you make him seem, he tells you like it is. I don't think shabriri's "slander" was agaisnt the merchants but agaisnt the order of the 2 fingers and the greater will, the merchants were persecuted so its not like he was caught in his lie and the prophets, who are also blindfolded, are also prosecuted, the blind fold item description reads "Blindfold of exiled prophets who foretold misfortune - and were persecuted and driven from their homes as a result. Why hesitate, if the path leading to the future is clear? Just close your eyes, and walk." I think shabriri was just persecuted by speaking out agaisnt the golden order/greater will for trying to do what you end up doing in the frenzied flame ending. Melina ultimately serves the 2 fingers and her objective is to help you become elden lord so order may be restored for the greater will, so obviously in her perspective the chaos flame is evil and will bring destruction. The 3 fingers arent evil, they just have a different goal, they want to end suffering etc by making everything one again (much like evangelion). It must also be pointed out that miyazaki follows berserk in its trend to show the "holy" and "good" guys as the bad guys and vice versa, in DS the gods who are of flame and light are actually subjugating and oppressing the humans and must trick hollows into continuing to link the flame so the age of the gods doesnt end and the age of the dark (age of man) never starts, and in Elden Ring, the greater will and golden order seems to be very similar. The frenzied flame is just another side to the coin another way to deal with the issue of the existencial question elden ring poses, they are however, not evil

I think the two fingers are the middle and the ring finger and the three fingers are the thumb, the index and the pinky finger. As the two fingers are of the same length while the three fingers are the shortest, longest then second shortest. Instead of being split off the two fingers came away from the whole hand and what was left was chaos. The antithesis to order in the two fingers.

The three fingers is also the emissary of a dangerous force that threatens to annihilate everything, so any of them present in other parts of the world would likely be hunted down. The one we meet in the game is hidden far below the capital city, within sewers where children that are born cursed and formed are thrown to be forgotten, in hidden behind an illusory wall. The followers of the frenzied flame have gone out of their way to hide the three fingers somewhere where others can’t find it.

If you look at the shape of the 2 fingers you see they are the middle finger and the ring finger. The shape of the 3 fingers is a thumb, trigger and pinky finger with a gap in the middle, seems to me all the fingers likely used to be a single hand but there was some event that split them, maybe the whole hand was frenzied and the 2 fingers were cured by some other force and split off, or perhaps the opposite, the 3 fingers were split off because they became frenzied.

I’d like to point out an interesting tidbit from the nomadic merchant’s set item discription about the frienzied flame “These merchants once thrived as the Great Caravan, but after being accused of heretical beliefs, their entire clan was rounded up and buried alive far underground. Then, they chanted a curse of despair, and summoned the flame of frenzy.” I’m not sure how true it may be, but perhaps that despair filled chanting and the curse they laid upon Leyndell, and by extension the Erd-tree, perhaps even the Greater-will itself was what the three fingers and the frienzied flame needed to root itself into the corporeal world of the lands between. In fact, maybe the armor itself, the merchant’s clothes found within a tent down the large burial shaft thing belonged to the merchant who became the first vessel of the frienzied flame, or even potentially was transformed into the physical body of the three fingers.

The flame of frenzy manifests itself in those driven mad by sickness, poverty, torment, etc. as demonstrated in the ailing village. There are hundreds, maybe more, of dead merchants in the Shunning Grounds. All that pain, grief, and spite in one place would make for a strong flame indeed. I also like the theory that Shabriri is the cause of the flame's presence in a way, as Shabriri's Woe says that his eyes were gouged out for the crime of slander, and the merchants were imprisoned on, likely false, accusations of heresy. Who better to become the most loyal servant of the flame than the one who allowed it to manifest in the first place?

I think with the travelling merchants, they spread out so far from each other not because the flame is so much chasing them as such, but because the more they gather together whilst being afflicted by it, the stronger the affects become. All the TMs together are what brought the 3 fingers together, with their curses and hatred. The villages all grouped together cause them to succumb to it to the point of no self agency. The rats, the soldiers, the giants all grouped up. The giant manifestation of the chaos on the hill is only brought about through the gathering and inciting by a group of villagers. This is a really interesting theory and I definitely think you’re looking in the right direction (getting one of the grapes from Edgar is another fun touch) but I think that fails to explain how Hyetta is completely unaware of everything going on. Like, we could just assume she’s a cynical liar on Shabriri’s level, but her reaction to finding out about the grapes or to being exposed to the flame seem sincere and surprised to me, and are things a resurrecting servant of chaos would seemingly be aware of. Maybe the flame just brought Irina back with amnesia and in some way tethered her to it so she’d seek the flame?

I'm pretty sure the "mistake" was the Erdtree. The One Great either created or merely arrived during the time of the Crucible, where all life was mixed together. It was almost certainly served by the Five Fingers. But when it changed the Crucible into the Erdtree in an attempt to bring about Order, it broke itself in two. The Greater Will, which wanted to continue with Order and the Erdtree and all that was one part, while the Frenzied Flame, which believed that the Erdtree and division had been a mistake and wished to undo ot by melting everything down into one was the other part. Of course, the Greater Will was an asshole that punished the Omen and Misbegotten for being "throw backs" to the Crucible and messing up its nice, orderly division, and the Frenzied Flame was entirely insane, because even in the time of the Crucible individuals still existed.

I believe you're missing some signs about the chaos. There was the first Elden lord (The three headed dragon) who we can fight. It has lost one of its head turning it from a three headed dragon to two. After that dragons have helped serving the Erd tree cult and their dragon cult. I believe the three fingers symbolise the dragon and the first mistake. The rage, loss and madness of the dragons turning to this utter madness that glowed beyond time and space. (The flying city is outside time and space as well.) The three fingers seem to be like glowing magma and rock. The two fingers symbolise the order of the Erd Tree that have won over the dragons, beheading the dragon making it loss a head, they are also made of wood it seems with grassy growth like hair. And all of them are damaged wooden things that have the same damage sound as if you chop at wood. To be able to heal your frenzy lordness you got to head to his arena and bless the needle, surely symbolisng finding peace with the source of the frenzy. Dragons also breath fire or use red lightning which works well with the frenzy flame themewise exept for dragon cultists who do golden lightning due to their erd tree alliance. Frenzy cultists eat eyes to find their maddening light. Tarnished can eat dragon hearts to become more draconic. Eating to many dragon hearts turn your eyes draconic, becoming the frenzy lord turn your eyes orange with madness. Also who warns you about eating too many dragon hearts? The same guy who turns into Shabiri. I also believe there is a mythical connection between Rykards snake who wishes to devour the world and the frenzy flame that wishes to consume the world. From Software snakes and dragons have had a heavy story connection and I will try to find it again. Also after writing all this I am surely filled with the frenzy flames, my hunger for grapes have grown. Also got some tips, seems the dragon had 5 heads and lost three. Strengthening the finger connection for me.

Dragon lord Placidusax actually had 4 heads. The old lord charm confirms he had 4 heads. So it would seem the great dragon war he had 2 heads cut off and as you can see in the boss fight nearly lost the 3rd head.

Know this; Order and Chaos cannot exist without one another, neither is good or Evil, but even so, Order is often looked upon as 'good' and Chaos as 'evil' but it can easily be the opposite. Order can mean the same as Stagnation and Captivity, whilst Chaos is movement and Freedom. But entities made entirely from one or the other will always lean heavily into it, thus a Orderly being will strive to preserve whilst a chaotic being would want destruction. But from Destruction comes life, and life, death. Order and Chaos are ultimately just another way to look upon the Cycle of life. This is why i consider The fenzied flame the most plausible 'canon' ending. Things continue to be in motion, things adapt and evolve, compared to the Ranni's Ending which just leads into a time of Tyrrany and stagnation, Ranni is not solving anything, she might as well be making more problems for the universe with her medling. I don't have much evidence for this, but I think that Astel, the Greater Will, and the Fingers are all related in the sense that I think Astel is an Outer God, and The Greater Will is the same as he is in terms of shape. If you look at Astel, he has six hands, and they're all roughly the size of the fingers. There's also six divine towers. It could be that there's one tower for each hand. We find two fingers on each one, except for the one with Ranni's corpse, because those fingers were moved to the church where she later kills them. That does leave the one in the Round Table as an extra, but the Round Table itself is kind of an anomaly, being a duplicate of something that actually exists, seeming created as a duplicate in another reality or something. I think the fingers there aren't really "real" but are more of a kind of rememberance of the real fingers. I think the Greater Will is also similar to Marika/Radagon in that it itself is one being with a duality of nature, which split: five fingers, into two fingers and three fingers; order and chaos. That would also mean that there's 5 more three fingers out there somewhere tho. The Elden Beast also uses the same star mist attack as Astel, so there's that too.
