I've watched self-defense videos online for several hours, and I was taught the same thing. Same with knives, actually. The universal sentiment seemed to be 'In a real life fight, if the other person has a knife, you WILL get seriously hurt regardless of how much more skilled you are than your opponent, so fleeing is always the best option.' So basically my self-defense technique is having a knife on me at all times and hoping any possible assailant agrees with the guys from the videos, lmao And hope they're unarmed, I guess At any rate here in Europe I don't have to worry too much about guns. I've never even seen a gun in real life except in a cop's holster. And luckily cops aren't as trigger happy here as overseas, either

My brother one relayed these words of wisdom from his judo teacher. "You must remember not to fear someone just because they have a weapon. A weapon is merely the extension of one's hand. Police/professionals/I don't know FBI whoever made these claims that sound about right to me; if you think someone is going to abduct you, or kill you, don't let them put you in the car. You're better off dying, or taking your best shot there, because once you're in the car you have no chance. There is some chance they wont fire at you in front of witnesses, and it would make the whole point unnecessary to just kill you beforehand and might let you go to minimize emergency response. But once you're in their car, or worse, you stand no chance. I will also state that this guy is built for grappling, ask anyone who did wrestling these body types are sob's because you can't get their arms away from their stubby bodies. Doubt you're a 2nd degree blackbelt of any school of actual quality, maybe a mcdojo with some kids. The point of stuff like this isn't that you're moving faster than you're a bullet, it's that you're push the guy away from it's straight path before the person can perceive your action, process it, and then create their own action of pressing the trigger, then gaining wrist control. You aren't foot-racing a bullet.

It takes more than a pound of force to break your finger just above at least it would vary from person to person. Now are you gonna gamble you get lucky and break that finger before the trigger has been fully leveraged back while having moved it (the gun) completely off center. I think this is taking the pistol vs knife engagement problem to a whole different level, where you need so much time and so much distance in order to react and have a chance. But in this case being the gunman is just much faster than being unnarmed 9 out of 10 times in these close quarter scenarios. You can possibly survive it and get shot, but you're not gonna be self defending with a hole in your cheek chest or shoulder unless you're in shock, in which case most people go blank for 10 to 30 seconds lol

Like the techniques he's making fun of are bullshit, but he recreates them so poorly that it makes the viewer suspicious, like maybe the techniques dooo work? lol (the videos themselves are never super convincing, it's more that we know the techniques are dumb). Rarely do they follow the steps in the video properly, and their clear objective is to make it look super dumb, so they put in no actual effort. I think those videos could be much more entertaining if they did it properly (even if they don't think the techniques are even close to being actually viable).

@@jirkazalabak1514 - I know it's not an effort problem as far as the technique working or not, but it is an effort problem as far as the objective of the video goes. Like someone could demonstrate in a video how to kick a ball. Then I try to recreate it, but in a way that's lazy and making fun of it, so I put the ball down, and then the ball rolls away, and then I do a goofy sideways kick and only just skim the ball and it all goes terribly. I think a number of viewers could see it like that. They're wondering if more effort was put in and if they followed the steps correctly, maybe it would work... In reality I know the techniques are ridiculous 99.9999% of the time, though not everyone does. The videos don't fulfil their objective. Putting in more effort also just makes the video more entertaining. It's fun to see people actually trying, to pull something off that just doesn't work lol. I mean in military training I did learn how to disarm someone that points a pistol at you at close range, as we had about 40h of training on how to disarm people carrying handguns/knives. The point of all of this is doing that in less than a few hundred milliseconds, since human reaction time, in instances like that is 200+ ms. You gotta place one hand at his wrist, and slap at the gun with the other hand as hard as you can. If you are fast and well trained you might also manage to grab it in the process. But the most important part is getting yourself out of the trajectory. And in that case the highest goal is to get the gun out of their hands, getting it yourself is absolutely secondary. That's why you don't want to be in arms reach of someone you try to subdue. The biggest issue with training like this is that you either can make it realistic enough that you learn how to do it, while risking injury, or you do it like it is shown in the video where it might look badass, but won't help you much. But in the end, this isn't much more than a neat party trick you can pull of with friends to show off.

@@fentonmulley5895 Twister is one of the most difficult submissions to pull off properly. There is a reason why the RNC is responsible for over 50% of all submission wins in MMA. It is simple, versatile and brutally effective, especially against people who don´t have experience with being choked. Once you lock it in, the victim has about 3-10 seconds of conciousness left. I actually got choked out by it during a sparring session by mistake, so I have absolutely no doubt that it works. As for biting, it really depends. If you bite in a symbolic way, not even penetrating the skin, most people won´t let go. If you actually manage to tear out a piece of flesh though, most people will let go at least a little bit. It depends on the individual pain threshold of the attacker I guess. That being said, you are usually better-off using you arms and legs rather than your teeth, lol.

@@zeyodeThe bigger issue I see when doing these sorts of exercises with NERF guns is that, NERF guns aren't necessarily designed to mirror actual guns like most airsoft guns actually do. Yes, there is the problem of possible injury with airsoft and BB, especially at a "literally on top of you" range, but the point of these demonstrations are meant to show means of defense that aren't feasible. Once you are shot, unless you have adrenaline coursing through your veins, you are not going to be able to defend yourself further, even if you have bulletproof armor.

So I was looking at the kidnapping one closer and I thought for a moment they were using an actual technique for breaking someone's grip at the thumb... and no, no they weren't. Their fingers were nowhere near the part of the hand you would press down on to break a grip. The proper spot to press on to break someone's grip on something is just above the webbing between the index finger and thumb. If you press there, you can completely restrict the thumb's movement as well as straightening it, allowing you to break the grip. This, of course, would not prevent someone from punching you with their other hand, or just coming back in for round 2. It's a cool party trick, but rarely useful for self-defence.

Addendum: I don’t think anyone can learn a self defence from a KZbin video. We practice the movements over and over hundreds of times. They become second nature and very fast. We are told never to use these defences unless the situation is life or death. Always give them your wallet keys etc. first. I would never use one of these techniques unless I believed my life or my child’s or loved one’s life was at stake. Also the best self defence is not to be there in the first place.

I see a major issue here with these disarms... People unconsciously and reflexively tighten their fists when adrenaline is pumping, and trying to disarm the gun from someone might actually make them shoot accidentally just because it caused them to clench their finger on the trigger. And to add to that, the brain does treat things that you are using as a tool basically like it's an extension of your body, and the mugger's brain will try to pull the gun back as if it was his hand almost. We would be kinda bad in hunting situations and warfare if we instantly loosened our grip of weapons as soon as we got startled. Even though they may not consciously have the time to react, the subconscious motor system doesn't need thoughtful intention to act, and rather just follow "basic programming" and reacts before you even are aware of what is going on (there's a considerable lag between seeing/feeling something and it entering your mind, I saw some estimate of ~120 ms between seeing and being able to act consciously). When you get startled you react before you know what's going on, that's the unconscious and faster type of motor reactions that we have. Fun anecdote about that though, once in the school cafeteria a fight broke out between me and another person as I was putting butter on a sandwich (standing up, both of us). She grabbed my hair from behind before I could react, and in that situation it was quite panicked and I tried to throw whatever punch I could. The principal eventually came to break up the fight, and as he pulled myself and her in our clothes out of the cafeteria I realized, "Oh, lol, I had the [plastic] butter knife in my hand the whole time" and tried to, as discreetly as I could, place it down on a bench on the way out. Her line of defense was something like "I just defended myself! He started it! I have butter all over my clothes now!" I sort of lose the ability to speak when in tense situations, but she had other issues so the principal understood the situation and just replied to her "Do you think he thinks it's fun? He also has butter on him." The only consequence for me after that was only that my father got notified that I had been in a fight, but nothing else, the next day everything was just back to normal... With clean clothes of course. If someone is robbing you, just concede. That's the sigma move anyway. Trying to act macho is what betas do.
