Hey Coy! New subscriber here after just seeing your video on Reel Rejects about the new DCU. As a passionate DC comics fan and someone who has dealt with toxicity from Snyder Cultists online I'm thankful for you for articulating so well what me and a lot of other DC fans believe. Superman should be an aspirational symbol of hope and Batman shouldn't kill. Personally I never liked Snyder's nihilistic iteration of DC characters in a cinematic universe. Maybe it could've worked as an elseworlds story but that iteration should have never been the main one that modern audiences got in live-action. Overall I think it did way more harm than good for those characters. I'm super excited about James Gunn's reboot and can't wait to see all the new projects!

Another recommendation for you, since you love Alan Moore and 2000AD work doesn't appear much in US coverage, Is "The Balard of Halo Jones". If you like Garth Ennis, he did a great run on Judge Dredd that you migth want to keep your eye out for.

To add to your Green Lantern recs I’d also say check out Green Lantern: Earth One Volumes 1 and 2. In fact, the cover art James Gunn showed in the announcement was of these two books. So I’d say there’s a good chance the show will be inspired by this story. Arguably the best of the Earth One stories, this sets the origin of Hal and John and the Lantern Mythos into modern times in a gritty, realistic way. I always said it was like if Christopher Nolan or Ridley Scott made a GL movie. Can’t recommend it enough 👍

Really, really dig seeing your enthusiasm for comics, man :) My best friend/housemate and I are exactly that because of a shared love of geekery that we hadn't found anywhere else, comics being a large part of the package (although he's Marvel and I'm DC - useful for knowledge swapping....). All I could for the Creature Commandoes show, yeh Seven Soldiers: Frankenstein 1-4 (2006) by Grant Morrison & Doug Mahnke, introduces both Frankenstein and the Bride for the show, and a Flashpoint comic tie-in called Flashpoint: Frankenstein and the Creatures of the Unknown (2011) by Jeff Lemire & Alberto Ponticelli has both Frankenstein and the Bride as well as the fish lady Nina and G.I Robot, and it's only three issues. P.S For Amanda Waller, I would recommend Checkmate (2006) by Greg Rucka & Jesus Saiz, a political, superhero, spy thriller where Waller is peak Waller, and culminates with the issue arch "Fall of the Wall" being just the best.

great recommendations! but as an aside I totally agree that people should check out public libraries for comics. When I started reading comics I was a jobless kid and they had all the greats. Support your local libraries AND your local comic shops!!

I think chapter 1 is going to be as cohesive as it needs to be but not beholden to ONE universe and I think the rest of the stuff when revealed will fill some gaps (but not all will need to be)

With the Lanterns being on Earth, it sounds like its might take some spiritual inspiration from the Denny O’Neil/Neal Adams’ GL issues with John taking the place of Green Arrow. They are friends but rub each other the wrong way. I just hope there isn’t a Hal heel turn.
