They don't see that the "middle" keeps moving, towed along by the Left. It's rather like the bullied kid, desperately seeking the favour of someone who will never give it to them, when they would be far better off being themselves and being liked for who they are.

I am sick and tired of Labour claiming the moral high ground, unchallenged. For example (though there are many), they will talk about the need for a fair taxation system, with the implication that whatever Labour want is fair and what the Tories want, is unfair. They will talk about a fair deal for doctors. Or a fair deal for nurses. But they do not get to define and own what is "fair".

@alicelund147

They do get to define that because liberals let them; these old Tories will reason and excuse themselves until they loose their last seat in Parliament .Only the New Right will deny Labour that right.
@buffalobill2874
@buffalobill2874 17 күн бұрын
If there are a lot of people labouring away hard at their job roles like nursing or construction or whatever then they probably do get to determine what constitutes fair because they likely outnumber other industries in manpower. Other better paid professionals can't really go on strike because access is already limited eg psychiatrists in Australia aren't readily accessible to those on low income.

@@ironsideeve2955 no it's very different, you don't get government that has 30% percent support, no spoiler effect. The vote goes to a second, third, fourth etc preference if the preferred candidate is eliminated, it's like running multiple elections concurrently and ends with the election of a single candidate. You still get landslides under AV voting, they are just a truer reflection of voters sentiment not a mathematical aberration. Proportional representation is an exact voter sentiment but can create very mixed parliaments, we have that in our senate. NZ runs a PR government, that seems to cause issues. I suppose a theoretical outcome of this election may have been a Conservative Reform coalition government, or a much increased Reform win. That would hardly be centrist. Regardless coalitions can still occur under fptp, it's happened in the UK.

In an argument, if you want to debate a right winger, target their rational side. When debating a left winger, target their emotional side. Emotions will always win because guilt, shame, self righteousness can be an easy sell to people who want to be popular

It's the media who frame debates in such a way, they're trained that way. It's only because the corporate media have almost a complete monopoly on the flow of information that it appears that emotions win over rationality, but on the rare occasion that the case for conservatism is given equal weight, common sense invariabily wins out.

Mogg would have been quite happy for us to vote Tory back into power and for the Tories to just carry on has they were. This is why I cheered when he lost his seat. All he cares about is the Tory party, but I have come to the conclusion Tories whether they be liberal ones or not, don't care about us, all they care about is their party and themselves.

I like JRM, however he is far removed from the lives of ordinary people and I don't think he can understand why people became so angry at the Tories. He comes across as if what's happened is a bit unfortunate, but is for his intellectual stimulation - for his interest as he analyses and discusses it with others over a glass of wine. It has not really touched him. There is no sign of humility, taking responsibility, regret or sadness. I suppose it's not really his fault; he lives in a bubble and always will. The cost would be very high to him to step out of his bubble, and I don't think he would be prepared to do that. I'm not talking about wealth or privilege, but mindset and character. HRH Prince William exhibits real compassion and a desire to understand people's lives, which JRM and many politicians don't.

Weak and pathetic moral case from Mogg. The moral case is to protect British people from outsiders, stopping people dying in the channel is a secondary benefit. The last true leaders of western conservatism are all my personal favourites…. UK Margret Thatcher, US Ronald Reagan, Pope John Paul11 and our very own John Howard…. 🇦🇺 John Anderson for those listeners not versed with Australian political history, played the pivotal role as Deputy PM to Howard in that sweat spot of conservatism in Australia… Howard / Anderson/ Fisher period governed between 1996-2007. (Sadly we lost the absolute national treasure Tim Fisher in recent years) Today in 2024 Australia, with the exceptions of former PM Tony Abbott, the 2 people that make more sense than all the compiled political crop is our national treasures, John Howard 85 and a very young John Anderson 68 (apologies JA)… One not only could but should listen to these 3 guys on any available occasion to be reminded what character, soul and leadership used too and should look like … Congratulations John on your fine channel Andrew Wickham
