In this clip, Victor makes the case that although Trump was known to be 'isolationist', the evidence suggests that during his tenure, America provided a stronger deterrent to aggressors.
It is clear that despite China, Russia, Hamas, Afghanistan, was the world more deterred.
Victor Davis Hanson is an American classicist, military historian, columnist, and farmer. He has been a commentator on contemporary politics for the National Review and The Washington Times and is currently the Martin and Illie Anderson Senior Fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution.
In addition to writing hundreds of articles, book reviews and newspaper editorials, Hanson is also the author of twenty-four books and hosts a regular podcast series, 'The Victor Davis Hanson Show'. Hanson was awarded the National Humanities Medal in 2007 by President George W. Bush, and was a presidential appointee in 2007-08 on the American Battle Monuments Commission. His latest book, The Dying Citizen, was published in October 2021. And his next book, soon to be released on May the 7th this year, The End of Everything, How Wars Descend Into Annihilation.

I don’t agree with trump on everything but I definitely agreed with his foreign policy. He kept enemies of the west on their toes and the taking out of sulemani sent an extremely clear message as to the capability of the USA and also its willingness to arbitrarily target enemy commanders as and when he believed it was necessary to send a message. That was an epic bit of diplomacy.

That’s a load of holding garbage. There is no NATO membership fee. The 2% of GDP is a suggestion, not a requirement. And it’s outdated because it fails to account for cooperative research, development, and co-production, as well as non-financial contributions like airspace clearance or contributions to coalitions and peacekeeping operations. Anyone who tells you Europe needs to pay 2% is conning you and exploiting your ignorance.

I agree. Trump is not an isolationist. As bad as the Afghanistan withdrawal was, I’d given Biden a pass if he’d kept Bagram. It was so central to everything geopolitical in the region. Why give it up?! Let the taliban do their thing because it’s inevitable. The afghan people at large did not want to turn into the West. They didn’t want the taliban but they didn’t want to be Wyoming. We need that aire of deterrence for a more peaceful world.

This seems unrelated, but bear with me. Just like we have been virtually subsidizing EU defense, we have been subsidizing their healthcare and thus their welfare states. Our left then demands we pay for similar welfare states. Why can’t we enforce best price rules on pharmaceuticals? If Germany gets an antibiotic for $1 a pill, the Medicare and Medicaid and the VA should not pay more. I’d rather have the bigger military than just have bigger healthcare costs.

From the beginning of the DJT presidency my thought about his detractors was this: Why isn't DJT judged by his results rather than his communication? How is the delivery of his message more important than the message? No, he was not & is not a "statesman", but he delivered on his promises or at least tried. Yes, he is blunt to the point of rudeness, but he gets the point across with little to no room for misunderstanding.
