I was baptized 3 years ago and Mathew 16 was a big part of my conversion One of the reasons I opened myself up to learn about the Catholic church. Since the pandemic I have only been to Mass a couple of times and have truely felt its absence in my life. I finaly get myeslf to mass early enough to get a seat in the church (limited because of covid19) yesterday's reading happens to be Mathew 16. I felt like it was a message, like God using his influence to say, "Welcome back, remember me and why you come here".

Wow.. that was definitely our Lord speaking to you. I'm so glad that you were able to return. It's not easy! But so necessary. Going to mass online is fine, better than not going at all, but being with others in church is a whole different thing. And the ability to accept the Eucharist... it's our true connection, our gift of love from Jesus.

What a Spirit filled sermon. Thank you Father. We're too often bereft of what we have lost as Catholics as regards the 'comfort' of living in a society that agrees in principle with our faith. I live in Ireland and just in my lifetime the society has changed so much from my parents time. It's really a case of the 'baby with the bathwater' - or at least it seems that way at times. However, you're right, we have to remember the promises of Christ and trust Divine providence. How radically can we change just our small area of this 'body of Christ' that we're a part of if we truly meditate on the question that Jesus asked Simon. 'And who do you say I am?' The answer should change our lives, and then we 'build up' each other in love. Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Sent forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And you shall renew the face of the earth. O God, who through the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations, through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Father Mike, I am in a little bit of awe and a bit shaken. I have been pondering my role and how I can help Jesus, the church and my loved ones. Everyday I pray for the courage to do so. When you mentioned how the age of Christendom has ended, I thought "oh! That's like the book I've been reading, 'From Christendom to Apostolic Mission'. Then a couple of minutes later you bring out the book. I started weeping. Coincidence? I don't think so. Many of my loved ones have openly scorned the church, the Lord and told me how they think religion is all a bunch of garbage. It hurts my heart deeply. I've been so hesitant to say anything to them but Jesus is coming through loud and clear to me. I can't ignore it anymore. Please pray for me, for others who are facing the same obstacles in their lives, for yourself and the entirety of the Church. We have an uphill battle. I'm not quite as excited about it as Bishop Sheen has suggested we should be, but I know there's a reason that the Lord has picked us to be here at this moment in time. Bless you, Father, and all those willing to take on this holy mission.

Because we had our outdoor Masses cancelled in Northern California due to the fires, I watched Fr Mike's Sunday Mass this last weekend ❤ I understand why they cancelled outdoor Mass, but I am still greatly disappointed. The air quality didn't look that bad. Those who were concerned could have remained home. I am beyond saddened with the ease that our Bishops seem to take away our Lord from us in the Blessed Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist 🙏 First the virus and now smoke in the air? How do they not realize that without the Holy Eucharist we have no life to breathe anyway. I am truly heartbroken this is happening 💔 I am praying for you, Father and your students ✝️🙏Thank you for this beautiful and touching homily ❤ I really enjoyed your connection to our present time and learning more about the connection through history 🙏✝️

I member the exact moment the church lost her influence. I used to live in the Wall Street area in NYC. Anytime there was a tragedy reporters would immediately go to Saint Pat's and seek the Cardinal (John Cardinal O'Connor at the time) and get words of wisdom and courage. The abuse crisis was made known and the next time there was a tragedy no one went to the Cathedral. No one asked for the words of wisdom from the church. The church lost her influence on that day. May God help us and all those that sought to hurt us be drawn to the Holy Spirit and be changed and make right what they have done.

I've always seen the "gates of hell will not prevail" as a call to be on the defense but understand now that is more a call to go on the offense with the security that Christ will always triumph over the forces of evil.
