I've been trying different knife designs for half a century; and over the years, a few stood out as keepers, while most I don't even remember. Being a long time customer of Blind Horse Knives, I thought I owed it to L.T. Wright to try one of his products after he ventured out on his own. About the same time as this video was released, I purchased the "One Foot In The Wild" Genesis. Surprisingly, I have never held a regular Genesis in my hand; but I have heard that the OFITW version's handle is beefier/thicker, perhaps because of the red liners incorporated with the black micarta scales. If this is true, it's absolutely perfect for my hands; in fact, it is so comfortable, that even after working with it in excess of four hours straight, my hands still had nary a blister or hot spots......... something that most reviews rarely mention (hand comfort after many hours of work). It's been over a year now, and I can say quite honestly, I've finally found "The One". For it's intended purpose, for my hands, this is the best knife I've ever used, and worth every dollar. This was a good video, with a damn good knife. L.T. Wright Knives is one of the best knife makers in the country, and they're sure to have a design that fits your hands, and your needs. If not, talk to them; they'll do their best to make it right, just for you.

If you soak that ferro rod loop in water and get it really wet, you can stretch it for a larger rod. I have a 1/2 rod in mine. It only took about 5 minutes to work it in after the leather was soaked through. I balanced the sheath on a glass of water so only the loop got wet.

I getting a LT Wright with a sabre grind on Monday. I'm used to my Casstrom with a scandi grind. I'm really looking forward to A/Bing them. I need to slow down buying knives ;) Re: Buying a righty sheath. I'm lefty, and have carried right for 50 years. It's just second nature to change hands. I wish I had gotten a lefty many decades ago.

Larry.. I have heard nothing but good things about the Genesis. I have been considering it myself. A couple of things for you.. To make your blind horse knife fit it's sheath, you are going to have to put it in some water and then wet form it. It should come out nice and snug. I have done this with several sheath projects. Also.. be careful what you put on your new sheath to soften it up. The wrong stuff or to much can turn it into a sloppy mess that the knife won't stay in. I have a blended mix that I make for waterproofing, that holds the shape decent while leaving it some what pliable. Third.. The genesis obviously, has a very sharp ninety degree spine which is why it throws a storm of sparks. Many knives that have a ninety degree spine, throwing only medi-okre sparks, just need the 90 sharpened up. Sometimes I even leave a slight burr on the edge just so I have a lightning thrower. Just My 2 cents.. Thanks for the video and I look forward to the updates. :-) Shad

Last post, just the way my Benchmade Bushcrafter #162 handle is, it almost automatically gets the knife in possition to slice,, another great knife. mine is a Saber Vex Grind, and I love it. it feels a little different than your average knife. because the handle is thicker towards the front than towards the pommel, so when you get use ti it, it almost positions itself, and it's made out of a great steel too (S30V).

Great job Larry!! I have a piece of Kydex that came with my PLSK 2 that will fix your loose one. If I can find it, I will PM you for your address. I'm sure it will work because it made my sheath too tight. BHK used to use those in their pouch sheaths. For your Scandi's that bite too deep, convex the Scandi bevel. Don't make a micro bevel. The geometry of the convex will allow the knife to glide down stick. Loved the background noises in your video! God bless. John

Bobby O'Quinn I think it will do everything you want to with it. Its not a chopper, but I have batoned through a 3" or so oak stick with mine. My PTK is larger and I do like that extra length, but use this knife hard for a few weeks and let me know what you think. I think you'll be happy you got it.

+schlooonginator By thicker I mean the blade stock as opposed to handle. I recently got a Sptderco Bushcraft UK which als has a larger handle and also gets accolades for it ergos. Like You I wondered why all other knives typically have such thin handles. There is so much better feel and leverage/control with the fatter handles, its simple physics.

hoping you do a follow up video after you get some more use on the blade and the woodsman pro is more of a hunting knife and a lot of hunting knifes have smaller handles to quickly switch from a standard hold to a side hold. At least that is my experience with the full tang hunting knifes while the rat tail tangs have a very round handle which you can switch grips really fast and easy on too but you could also put some liners in or have them put in and that will add the thickness to the woodsman if you want and how exactly did you have the plsk1 re ground?
@LarryRobertsbc
@LarryRobertsbc 10 жыл бұрын
Mike Brank I had a knife maker regrind the plsk1 for me. I can tell you that I have used the hell out of the Genesis and it rocks man. The woodsman pro does have more belly for skinning, but for bush crafting the Genesis is tops in my book.
@mikebrank6174
@mikebrank6174 10 жыл бұрын
that makes sense since one is more or less a hunting design while the other is a bushcraft purposed design. And is the plsk1 still a scandy or is it like a saber grind now? I have it and the scout but i grab the scout more just cause i like the geometry better and my go to actually is a 4 inch blade bark river aurora that i removed the micro bevel from the convex edge least till my new battle horse arrives its custom and i think it will de throne my bark river lmao. Still i was eyeing that genisis hard and have yet to hear a single complaint other than about the steel type
@LarryRobertsbc
@LarryRobertsbc 10 жыл бұрын
My plsk1 is now more of a saber grind, whtch I like better than the severe scandi it came with. I have no complaints on the A2 steel of the Genesis.
@mikebrank6174
@mikebrank6174 10 жыл бұрын
***** yeah the only thing I heard was the a 2 not throwing a spark with a piece of flint nothing to do with edge retention or anything which means pretty good knife in my book if that the only complaint I hear about it. I haven't been able to play with one yet but my bark river is 3v steel so it's to tough to spark with flint or sharpen in the field off a rock u could find giving a 2 the advantage a bit I would think tho trying to sharpen with a rock off the ground means I'm probably in a pretty bad spot lmao
@LarryRobertsbc
@LarryRobertsbc 10 жыл бұрын
LOL! Yep, I'd be a hurtin unit if I had to sharpen with a rock. It can be done, but its last resort. Yes, I believe your right I don't think the A2 sparks with a rock, but I personally don't care for that anyways. I've tried it and it beats the hell out of your knife. JMO

When You stop buying knives, DONT buy another kniife, it's total abstinence, or it starts all over, Yeah I have a knife addiction, but it's not mind altering. My Blind Horse Bushcrafter is 4" and I had the handle thinned down ad polishrd, the color is natural and it came out beautifully look's more like a classy Kephart. but I do like pointy knives, you can really get into small areas when your carving.

I have not personally tried out the PKS Kephart. I have however tried the Genesis quite a bit. I love it! I will say though that a hunting knife and a Bushcraft knife do different tasks. Say Heah Larry, Again, I really like pointier knives, But I do have a Blind Horse Bushcrafter, I had the handle made slender, I don't like round broomstick handles, I feel more control with a flat handle, But the corners are very rounded and fit my large hand great. I also had the handle polished, It sort if looks like the handle on the HC. But with the fisheye pins, Mine looks like a high priced Kephart. It's close to the Genesis. I don't use it too much because I do like a larger knife, But yesterday and today, I went out for some quiet time during the Holy A week, and just had some coffee, But for some reason I coudnt help but to admire my Bushcrafter., Its a slender handle and not that much bigger than some of my friends fooders. But the simplicity of the knife makes it beautiful, I never realized how nice of a knife is.Yeah, But this time I kind of know what to do, I prolly will have L T make me a knife, I was hoping I could get one in 3V though.,,.

I hear Ya, I just like a very pointy tip on my bushcraft knufe, I can get into some smaller carving with a pointier tip. Don't get me wrong, I love my Blind Horse Bushcrafter which is more similar to the Genisis, but Thanx for tge heads up on tge handle, to me a handle is important. Infact I had my Bushcrafters handle thinned down and polished, simply because I didn't like a broomstick handle look. When I got it, it looked gorgeous like a classy Kephart. But tge surprise was how comfortable it was for me, I wear large gloves and I never had a problem with slipping when wet..I find if the handle is wide enough and the edges rounded it feels real good for me, my go to field knife right now is the Rodent 5 it doesn't have palm swell like my Ratmandu, but it's extremely comfortable and fits my hand just right, not all flat handles feel good. At first my O.K.C. Ranger RD-9 I had to work on it a little before it felt good for me. Right now my B H Bushcrafter and especially my Rodent 5 are some of my favorite handles, although I concern myself with the handles before I buy the knife, and my knives all feel pretty except a very few. One knife that felt different than what I was use to was my Benchmade Bushcrafter #162 it's fat up front and thins down towards the pommel, otherwise a very well made handle, but I had to get use to it, but once I started to use it, it just positions the blade in such a way that helps you to slice naturally, one of my Fav's now.
