I always liked that part in FireRed/LeafGreen when you are finally able to connect with Ruby/Sapphire for trading and Bill says "I've linked up with Lanette!". Just a short quick line but it made Kanto and Hoenn actually feel like connected parts of a shared world as Hoenn wasn't otherwise mentioned anywhere else in FireRed/LeafGreen

That's what I miss about gens of pokemon. In Gen 3, you really feel that Kanto and Hoenn has some connection. Same with Gen 4 with Johto and Sinnoh. Same with Gen 6 with Hoenn and Kalos. Then it started fading in Gen 7. But hey, at least the Alola protags have Lt. Surge's autograph. And Mina visits Kanto. And there's the Kantonian Gym. (Weird how all of these inter-region references are related to Vermillion City.) So Kanto and Alola still feel connected despite how different SM/USUM is to Let's Go. Gen 8 is the most disconnected generation. Galar has nothing to do with Sinnoh or Hisui. Heck, even BDSP doesn't feel connected to P:LA which is so weird. Then SV (a Gen 9 game) made a lot of references to P:LA (a Gen 8 game) in its DLC, further making the generational identities of the Switch era of Pokémon games a lot less cohesive.

I'm pretty sure it's Celio the one who says that. Bill just helped Celio link up with the Kanto storage system (during the first visit to the Sevii Islands before the post-game)

@@cis22 That's because BDSP wasn't made by Game Freak, while P:LA was. They probably intended for Gen 8 to have a big Sinnoh and Hisui connection since they are literally the same region but it fell through with the extremely rushed development of BDSP.

I love how the Pokemon Storage NPCs are implied to all have made new developments to the storage system. The revamped system in gen 3 from Lanette with Bill complimenting her on the design, Bebe added the filtering features, Amanita adding the Battle Box, etc. Like they're all making additions to Bill's open-source code.

I like to think bill designed the hardware for the pc, but had limited knowledge designing the software in the original red and blue games, then in frlg's timeline lanette and bill worked together hence how lanette was able to improve the design. this would explain why the gen 1 and 2 pc was so minimalistic.

Lanette was the adoption for a mainstream pokemon PC system while Bill was the creator of the pokemon PC system. But problem is the creator system got too slow to use and needed some work later on

If you want to put into perspective how much Lanette did for the Pokémon Storage, think about it like this She's to the storage system what Bill Gates (fk I just realized why Pokémon's Bill is called that) is to the PC. She might not have invented it, but she made it intuitive, easy to use and understand. Imagine if you had to use console commands just to move files from one folder to the other as if you were permanently stuck in -vim- a Linux console. That's what Bill's PC is like

yeah it really makes it kind of a shame that Bill still recieves all the credit. Like yeah, digitizing pokemon into basic information is god-level genius, but that's back-end stuff. the average trainer isn't going to care about it. what they WILL care about is the user experience and how functional the technology is. I imagine before Lanette, people rarely owned more than 6 pokemon because they didn't want to be bothered to use bill's computer. That, or there were hacks being done to give yourself multiple accounts so that you could just have 12+ pokemon physically with you.

Lanette was always just there to me in the Hoenn games but in a good way. I always knew she would be there in Fallarbor blocking me from the PC. It's cool that there's these trainers who are interconnected through working on the probably intricate coding of the PC. I also never really noticed how Lanette really advanced the PC to where it was so good there were literally no changes until PCs got a soft reboot on the Switch.

You put in video form my thoughts about Lanette. I don't think many people took one day the time to realize the REVOLUTION between gen 2's PC and gen 3's PC in Pokemon. I always liked the PC NPCs in these games. I don't even remember if there's someone like that in Gen8, since now you don't need a PC but you can connect directly with the Rotom phone. Do you think it was a result of the person working on the Rotom dex in Gen7 ?

Pokemon and item storage management was actually part of the challenge of older games especially gen 1. The limited space gave the games more of an RPG feel than they do now. That being said, I'm super thankful for the Gen 3 PC overhaul.

she's only seen from a certain angle so it's a forced perspective issue. she normally looks like she's putting more weight on one leg than the other in a casual stance. we aren't supposed to see her from a lower angle

If I remember correctly, on my first Gen3 playthrough, I didn't talk to her and her PC was always called "???'s PC" when accessing it.

In ORAS, she even adds the option to let you put "organize boxes" (the most useful of the three options IMO, and the option that later games would eventually just have as the *only* option because it was both of the other modes combined) at the top of your PC menu. Bill is the one who made the system, Lynette is the one who made it useable.

I find it interesting that Lanette and Bill are kind of out of the way. They live a rural life, but use cutting edge technology. Maybe the other PC support characters do as well, but I haven't played the games in which they appear.

This raises a quirk with Pokemon Remakes that I find interesting. They're stated to occur at the same time as the originals in-universe, but then use the technological advancements from that have been invented in the other games since then, but it's still stated to have built upon them. Basically, in remakes, there's a tendency to have technological advancements pushed forward in time compared to the original.

For some reason I love her character. The unfortunate thing is that she lacks a unique sprite. Like, the sprite barely looks like her character, it's just generic. Unfortunately this seems to be a problem with RSE sprites in general, a lot of the trainers use sprites that barely matches their design. With Lanette, considering this sprite is all you see in-game, you wouldn't even know she has an actual character design.
