In 1903, Edmund Creffield,
a thirty-three-year-old
immigrant from Germany and
former Salvation Army captain,
persuaded about twenty Salvation Army
soldiers in Corvallis to join his
newly founded church, the 'Brides of Christ'.
Creffield prophesied that
one of his followers
was destined to be the
mother of the second Christ,
but to find out which one,
he needed to purify them;
this he did by laying his hands on them...
actually all over them.
Oddie Beau's ODDNESS Urban exploration & famous historical features! vintage crime cases & eccentric people from the past! ...and other weird stuff :) ....a dusty store window, filled with ancient alluring oddities. Once you've entered, you'll never want to leave. Quality over quantity.

It is amazing what people will do and who they will follow. Sometimes people will come into these things innocently. Trouble is we get brainwashed. It can take years to break away and feel whole again. Very interesting story. Not familiar with the cult in Sweden but will check it out. Thanks so much Oddie.

My aunt was in a cult for a while back in the 60’s. She ended up in California from Virginia. What made her leave was giving birth to a baby that passed away and non of them seemed to care about what an affect it had on her. She called my grandparents and they got her home. She was never the same after. I think she was looking for self worth, and the loss of a child brought her back to reality. Cults are powerful because of weak people searching for something that just isn’t in someone else.

I can't believe that people who had actually been isolationist as speaking in younger and spiritual hysterics were and are crowned upon. Even today any idea of sexual activity unless with partner always ends in them being required to retain from wearing uniform. Such a wicked situation

could it be that in 1906 these women were leaving shitty lives and husbands but the townsfolk (largely led at the time, by these same men) just couldn't handle the fact their women wanted a fucking divorce. Its evident by the fact that the jury found it completely find to come to a verdict of not guilty vs not guilty by insanity, for the same crime, done within the same atmosphere.

This is a fascinating story, one I had never heard about before. Seems a risky business to try to form a cult group comprised only of women for exactly the same reason as was played out here. The more followers gained, the more angry husbands & family members are also to be gained. While his demise was an expected result, this tale certainly had a unexpected twist there, didn't it? Loved the video, as always! Thank you, Oddie!

Creffield was a cult leader, plain and simple. The fact he had so much control over his followers, who were mostly vulnerable women, took advantage of their devotion, and the fact he established the belief in a so-called prophecy (a "sacred science" or "Ultimate Truth" according to Robert Jay Lifton's eight cult criteria) are telltale signs.

I think the reason for the “double standard” of the court is that it’s a super dangerous precedent to say that someone defending honor is a justified reason for murder. Finding her outright innocent would do that, so they had to do the insanity thing with a token stay for it.

This tale reminds me strongly of Ted Hughes' 'Gaudete'. In that book, an ordinary Church of England vicar is abducted by spirits into another world, but a replacement vicar is made out of a log of wood. This new vicar interprets the 'religion of love' in a similar way to Edmund Creffield, and ends up in much the same way. (Meanwhile, the original vicar returns as a changed man - but that's another story.)

This was great Oddy! I don't know how I missed it. As for Waco, apparently Koresh was known around town and the police could have picked him numerous times for questioning or whatever, but the ATF needed funding and decided to attack the Branch Dividians and make a big case out of it to get the money. One old documentar said that the cildren were laid out in a circle as if there was some occult rutual at the end. Wouldn't surprise me. Would you do a video about Grace Kelly and the Solar Cult? That is a very intiguing mystery. And I have know women who want to be in cults. Just can't find one!

Cults will continue as long as there are people who need to feel like they belong to something greater than themselves. To overcome loneliness , disappointment, etc. The word “cult” itself leaves a negative impression. I don’t understand why people in one of the biggest cults in the US, maybe the world, refuse to see what’s going on. It scares the hell out of me!!

Hi Oddie. Thank you for the vid on some more crazies! Ugh. Just never stops. We've had another mass shooting here. Not far from home. People just trying to celebrate the 4th, our Independence Day. Kid was younger than my oldest grandson. Just starting shooting at a parade. At least 6 people dead. And this one's on the run. Hasn't shot himself like they usually do. Madness. Be safe out there🙏💔🕊️

There's a lot more to the Waco Branch Davidians case than just hoarding weapons and ammunition. It's a muddy case, and as someone who has been living in such close proximity to the event, I have learned a lot about it. Attempted murder, molestation... There's a lot more to that sad story than just weapons trafficking

There's one here in America now and they wear red hats and follow a big fat clown 🤡 who lies to them and they send him money so he can keep lying to them, is really insane and incredible.

This just shows that back then people were as devious as they are now-all in the name of religion. The followers must feel that something is lacking in their lives. The same can be said of any fringe group. Wrong actions and lies then validate the view.

Thanks Oddie .brilliant as ussually...human mind is mystery-still can not comprahand why she needs to kill her brother for the sake of her own honor..but I assume she had right to do so.There is very simular story that i red few years ago in SMH -weekend edition .Its about Romanian priest who set up some kind of cult in one of monesteries in early 2000.He was living there with at least 10 nuns -sexual activities obeying him as God were involved. The truble started once came nun who objected and refused to be part of group.Within one month she was killed by other nuns and probably him too.Her family made investigation and thats how all come publicly...its happened in 21 century and all these women committed murder to justify madness.

Oddie, you were thinking of the Heaven's Gate cult. A guy named Applewhite had a cult where some of the men castrated themselves. They killed themselves because they thought the Hale-Bopp comet was somehow going to take them away. Perhaps a spaceship was hiding in the comet. Sad story.
