Truly the perfect example why they should be a child psychologist and social worker in every school. Each student should be interviewed a minimum of once a month. No one not living in someone else’s home, really knows what goes on in there. No home is an exception to this.
@Adrian-zd4cs3 жыл бұрын
@@deborahkusaj1928 do you realize that task that would be taking on to interview EVERY STUDENT every few months. That's not doable! Our communities just need to do better. We've reported families here on our own street if the children aren't properly cared for. It's easy to see. Too many people, ESPECIALLY Americans, just choose not to get involved and other people suffer. When I was 10, I was at a friend's house only 200 yards away and her grandmother was drunk and left us to care for the baby. Then her father came home drunk and beat and broke my friends arm. She ran to my home and alerted my parents. When the cops arrived, I was sheltering and hiding the remaining children in a room. So pardon me if I think differently about these cases. It left a scar on even my family. He was arrested and the family moved away a week later.

@@greyeaglem It wouldn't have mattered if they did. It's not a crime to cut the grass in a tux. The law only gets involved AFTER a crime. As Americans we value our right to be individuals. Everything we do would be considered odd by someone's estimation. We cringe at the stories of communist countries, everyone policing everyone, spying on one another. I guess this is the other side of that Individualism we value so highly. If schools started sending all the kids to psychologist I would home school mine immediately. I don't know why. I remember hearing about this case years ago. It was because of the clay bust is how they was able to catch John List. It was the first time making a clay bust and aging it was done to catch a criminal. This artist guy was a pioneer in using this tool to help law enforcement catch a fugitive from justice. Now they have computer programs that can do age progression photos to catch criminals. Also, they can used the skull of victims Jane/John Doe to create a picture in order to identify them. Forensic Science has truly come along way in aiding in crime solving. So many cold cases have been solved due to advancement of forensic science. Now with a larger database in DNA testing using databases such as Ancestry DNA, 1,2 and Me have aided in cold cases. The use of security cameras, social medias, credit cards and mobile tracking are also tools in investigations. I can't think of anything else that could be used in the advancements of criminal investigations.

Of course, that's no excuse to kill someone, but it might explain the temptation. Same with the mother, we will never know what kind of unresolved childhood trauma might have gone into his thought process there. But the kids??? Nope. I will never be able to wrap my mind around that. I can often understand why people do what they do, but I can't imagine shooting one of my kids EVEN if I thought doing so would "save" them. That would be just the most horrible thing I could ever imagine. My kids are grown and even now, a nightmare where one of them is hurt or in danger is the absolute worst terror I have ever felt. I have actually been staring down the barrel of a gun pointed at me (thankfully, the guy didn't pull the trigger but I certainly thought he was going to!), and with 100% certainty I can still say I would rather be the one shot instead of my kids. He had lost his job, faked going to work, was facing foreclosure, he had been stealing from his mother, all of which was about to be exposed. It was him sitting down to lunch while his family's blood dried that bothered me the most. That and asking them about their preferences for burial at dinner in the days before he murdered them. But the biggest blow was that he placed their bodies beneath the Tiffany thing that could have paid off all of his debts. His wife was horrible, absolutely horrible and his Mom wasn't any fun, either. That's what divorce is for and well, Mothers don't live forever. He could have simply moved her into her own place after the separation. I can, however, understand how depression makes you feel like there's only one option- which is usually the worst choice a person has available. Depressive tunnel vision is nearly impossible to break out if unless the depression has been addressed. That's not an excuse, simply an observation. Nearly everyone who is severely depressed hurts absolutely no one else. He had to have the capacity for evil in his heart before he ever became depressed...

Thank you, Oddie, for another great episode! One more fact to mention, John List didn't kill himself because he was a family annihilator with narcissistic personality disorder. I remember this case, and how gruesome it was. I recall there were some images of the interior of what was once a beautiful home. He strikes me as one of the men left terribly broken by WWII and Korea. There is no sense to be found in his actions. You told this beautifully Oddie, as always. So much damage was internalized from the many years of war, and sometimes it erupted at random. I remember the Watcher case as well...pretty strange. It shows how little most of us are aware of the internal landscape of the minds of others...even people we think we know. Love and light to you and Odette dear Man.🖤🇨🇦

Monsters in human form walk among us. Brutally cold! Brutally cruel! The List family must have suffered abuse (psychologically at least) for years. Until this final act of cowardly, inhuman rage blasted their lives away. His new wife was fortunate that she did not recognize his likeness in the clay bust. Her lack of intuition, no doubt, saved her life. Excellent coverage of the John List mass-murders. Thank you.

@@dy9278 a joke. American English sounds only faintly like the Kings English. Ditto Australian. Once, I decided that I wanted a different voice from my Garmin and selected the female Australian option. I had to translate on the fly- a highway on ramp is apparently called a slit road in Australia! There were a few other things, but that stuck out in my mind because I was driving in part of Chicago I had never been in before and I am just a small town gal. I remember yelling, "what's a slit road!?!?!?" to the Garmin woman, but she refused to respond... My Garmin was absolutely terrible to begin with, constantly directing me to turn left on the highway where there was nothing but a median wall, and more. Inevitably, it lost satellite reception just before important turns and always in bigger cities. So I have history with Australian :-) Admittedly, not much and it's not especially humorous but there it is, lol.
