Its been a good growing year as it turned out. How the spring started we weren't too sure it was going to be that way.

Aaron, your corn cane up and did better than I actually expected. For a raw field, no manure or spraying, it looks amazingly good

Morning Glory vines WRAP up on anything, even rotary cutters. Pretty flowers, but you don't want it in your corn... Always enjoy your videos!

Thanks for the tour of all the different areas. Looks like you have good looking corn, for the most part. I had been really curious about your field, Aaron. It will be interesting to see what happens when the time for picking the corn comes.

The sod to corn field (corn looks great) is like Rick Clark says about no-till, you only need the prior cover to last until the corn/beans can do their own shading. Fukuoka says to broadcast your fall cover seed into your corn before you harvest, that way the harvest debris covers the new seed so it germinates and the birds don't get it.

That's some pretty nice dryland corn guys. I started watching your channel last spring.I really enjoyed watching you guys put up hay. I like that you have the newer JD tractors, and still use the old IH's and the Oliver and that old side delivery rake. I love the landscape. The rolling hills with the fields winding around the wooded areas is beautiful. What a nice setting for your farm down low between the hills. Do you get a lot of runoff going thru your yard from those hills? Bet you don't get much wind. Or doesn't the wind blow there? I've never been to your part of the country, but I'd sure like to get there and see it some day. I like that there are so many small acreage farms so close together. It used to be like that around here. Nowadays 2500 acres is small here. We have guys farming 5000, 10,000 and 20,000 acres. A few even bigger than that. Maybe I should move to Wisconson when I retire in a few years. I'm pretty sure I would like it. You all have a great day and stay safe!

Your back field shown at the end of the video, corn looks comparable given different 'microclimates' around the farm to deal with, I'd say it looks great. For deer pressure I've experimented with Marigold seed for some success, look for the 'tall' varieties that get 12-18in high. I'd say to get what cover crops you can get in the field as early in the fall as possible, broadcast ideally just before harvest or drill or broadcast followed by a harrow to get seed to soil contact and avoid bird feeding. Look at winter rye (K, pigweed & waterhemp block), buckwheat (P+Mg, block quack grass and thistle), dutch white or crimson clover (N), Flax (microrhyzal fungus), Daikon/Tillage radish (compaction), Black Lentils (N), Alfalfa (N, pigweed block), cowpeas (N), and/or whatever you might have available. Next spring I'd broadcast Daikon/Tillage radish heavy in any area you are trying to fix compaction.
