So I just noticed that what Grey Fox did in MG2 is sort of what Jetstream Sam did in Rising. They are both swordsmen, who have a respectful rivalry with the hero, and who serve a charismatic leader, who might be taking things too far. And both of them let fate decide who is right, by facing the hero. If they win, it's back to our regularly scheduled international incident, but if the hero wins, then the hero has the right to face the leader.
@donnycorn3086 Жыл бұрын
One's a ninja, one's a samurai. One opens bombasticly, one sneaks up to the hero. Narratively speaking, MGS and MGRR are just like that as well, with Solid sneaking and Raiden slicing. So it's poetic that Raiden experience the rivalry arch like that of the hero we've been playing as back in the very first MGS game, the rival that makes the hero stands off in the way the game presents itself. Man, as if I can't love Gray Fox more than ever.

@Stranger_209Sam would win. He beat a Metal Gear Ray before having any cyborg enhancements.
@donnycorn3086 Жыл бұрын
@@burnttoast.2017 And Grey Fox's pretty much a withering body in an early prototype exoskeleton suit. Beside, while Fox can't rival Sam in terms of swordmanship and power, his speed, stealth camo, and (according to the MGS1 boss fight) teleportation, as well as a better grasp in CQC. Raiden never fought Sam bare-handed, but Fox might, since he doesn't have to use his sword unless you pull the trigger on him. And the Metal Gear Ray comparison was a whole different thing. After Otacon destroyed the blueprints and sold the MG Rex's information on the black market, many nations has developed their copycats, and MG Ray was made to counter these models. That's why the MG Ray lost to the original prototype MG Rex in a beaten state. Altho I admire Sam's power, I would admit a Fox and Sam duel wouldn't be such a landslide. Hell, both of them would be glad to take the fight on for as long as they want to, because their ideal of fighting for their thrills of beating the others or a match of combat skills showcased on the field, more than just swinging swords into each other like MGR.

No mention of Kyle Schneider? That’s a shame he was the first cyborg ninja and served a similar purpose to Gray fox starting off as an ally giving you helpful hints as to what to do in the first game and turning into a cyborg ninja in the second.
@choppergunner86502 жыл бұрын
I don't recall Schneider becoming a cyborg. All he mentioned in MG2 is that after Operation N313 was complete, NATO launched a massive military bombing campaign to destroy any evidence of the TX-55 Metal Gear. Schneider tells Snake that bombs ended up killing civilians in the process. Then he goes on to become part of NASA's Extraterrestrial Force (some "Space Marines" vibe going on here), where he became a ninja-like soldier. But as far as my Metal Gear knowledge goes, I don't recall him becoming a cyborg. Sure, he could "teleport" in MG2, but that could technically be achieved with quick bursts of stealth camouflage popping on and off after he leaves one position to the next. Or the most realistic explanation could be the classic smoke bomb trick.

I think in death he became more important than he ever was even in life because he planted the meme in Solid Snake who went on to change everyone he interacted with. Big Boss inspired Frank Hunter to fight for his own cause, and Solid Snake would assume the Grey Fox role of mentor in Metal Gear 2, breaking Raiden away from the Patriot's control and ensuring Sunny, the daughter of Olga, could be rescued from the Patriots with Raiden's help. Sunny herself would later design the code that would completely destroy the Patriots while revolver osolot under the guise of Liquid Snake would draw the Patriots attention on himself completely. This is important because all those folks who actually really understood what Big Boss wanted would be the one's to slay the Patriots, the ultimate heartless machine. In essence, Solid Snake inherited the will and role of Frank Hunter which inspired other characters down the line to finally fight for their own will and break the cycle of violence that Major Zero and his comrades initiated.

who would had though that the sweet movieholic para-medic of mgs3 would become in a mad torturer scientist in the future
@choppergunner86502 жыл бұрын
Well, she was part of the Patriots, along with the DARPA chief, Donald Anderson (AKA Sigint, the cool gun-loving dude from MGS3), and Zero himself, who got euthanized by Big Boss. Para-Medic was loyal to Zero, so was Sigint, and so, his orders (or, so to speak, his wishes, carried on via the proxy AIs) were to be followed by them, without questioning. Not to mention, Para-Medic was very young during Operation Snake Eater, maybe around her early-to-mid twenties, so she would still have some of that "teenage feel". And if we take a look closely, if Para-Medic really went from a cute movieholic woman to a sadistic torturer, we can compare her to Big Boss' naïve, grunt/soldier mind from 1964 to his descent into insanity in the 1990s. Someone who once brought the world to the brink of World War III, re-ignited the fear of nuclear annihilation and held the world's only ready to go nuclear arsenal (according to MG2), all just to see himself (and the world, in some twisted way) free from the Patriots. Instead of Zero's/The Patriots' control, Big Boss would bring chaos, the complete opposite of control. Wars would spread like wildfire and total anarchy would rule the world. Soldiers and mercenaries would be given something to live for, and the orphans of war would be trained (similar to the kids found in MG2) to be the next generation of soldiers. To fight in the next bloody war. Funny as he kinda seems to resent all of that in MGS4, gives an unique feel to the character.

Metal Gear Solid still surprising me with things in it I didn't know about. Grey Fox gets you out the prison.

would be cool if they remade the first couple games and filled in the story and plot from 86 to 2000, maybe with kojima as a guest star

I low key though the fox inspiration was snake eyes because of how both snake eyes and the fox never reveal there eyes

I like that you referenced the story, not the movie

They should make a game called Metal Gear Zanzibar. That story sounds epic

The fact that a Grey Fox is actually a bat more than its name implies just says a lot about Frank. Zanzibarland became so empty without him.

Solid Snake was the only one of The Snakes that never served as a “Boss” in the sense that every Boss in this series has control of a PMC - aka - a Militia. - The Boss - Big Boss - Venom - Solidus - Liquid - Even Ocelot eventually had control of a PMC

I had an interesting theory that Raiden and Gray Fox might possibly be related, maybe even brothers. They both have white hair, they’re both skilled swordsman and they both play similar roles in the grand scheme of the lore. I know its a bit of a stretch but it would also be cool if Jack ended up inheriting his brothers sword especially considering they were both part of fox hound to an extent.

3 years after posting, but here's another obligatory "Kojima confirmed POs main plot was canon outside of some minor details" comment
