The 80s. The greatest 10 years in human history
@martinda74464 жыл бұрын
@ People are crazy. The 60s and 70s were (not just) musically among the most extraordinarily creative years in human history. Along with the Age of Reason and the enlightenment with Leonardo, Newton etc. and then the industrial revolution with Faraday and Maxwell giving us the electrical world and then those remarkable first twenty or so years of the 20th century where our understanding of the universe was raised many levels by Einstein and Niels Bohr. The 80s was an awful period where the world became one big shop and it was better to be making cash rather than art. We are still suffering from the 80s. I agree the 60s was probably in the region of one million times better, seriously. Just look at a car from the 60s. We landed on the moon in 1969. Music, through inertia carried on with mixed results during the 80s, sure some was great but as the decade ended things were just looking bad. Not only that but listen to XRay Spex and Germ free Adolescents (1978) for an example of true genius from a true girl punk band, not some clean manufactured American copy and not the friggin Bangles or GoGos Christ on a bike!

Real band, real music, nothing artificial added. Unlike Ariana, Nikki, Fifth Harmony to name a few. Most of today's musician's couldn't compete live, no auto-tuner or lip syncing, real live music against most 80's musician's. You had to have real talent to make it in music industry back then.
@BolsaChicaRadio8 жыл бұрын
Well, not so quick, buckeroo. During the formative years of The Go-Go's of 1981, at that "time", the girls were pretty good at harmonizing but at best, 'marginal' in their skills at recording and production, as it was producer Richard Gottehrer who had the experience, talent and overall creative insight to make their first hit single, "Our Lips Are Sealed" and their premiere album, "Beauty And The Beat" the classics they are today. Oh yes, and I.R.S. Records Miles Copeland's executive final stamp of approval, too! I always kinda wondered, how many "ghost musicians" where hired to play on that first album; a very popular, but secret & downplayed tactic of those times. I guess we shall never know...doesn't really matter at this point anymore. The millions of little "girl-power" teens who bought that first album back then, were successfully dooped into thinking that all that highly produced, carefully layered, finessed & refined, multi-tracked music, was "ALL" about them, and according to the recording industry, THAT'S what really mattered. And by-golly-gee, it worked! However, later as "Vacation", "Talk Show" and "God Bless The Go-Go's" were conceived & birthed, the five ladies since then, have grown and matured to become well accomplished & respected songwriters, musicians and co-producers. And, it all came to an integral, final and honorable close in the summer of 2016. Indeed, 'God Bless The Go-Go's'. - BCRadio/A. Ochoa

Yes, I'm going to talk mostly about the Go-Gos.... I was, and will always be a true Deadhead from the time I first saw them in 1985, but still had a great appreciation for talent in many genres. Maybe if Jerry Garcia was still alive, they could all play together! Hey, it would be damn interesting and entertaining, at the least. I always supported these strong feminists known as the Go-Gos. Feminism, to me, is when women celebrate their own unique sense of femininity, rather than letting society call the shots and the traditional roles, so bless you, Go-Gos! And btw, feminism, to me, is NOT about disliking or resenting men in the slightest!! Those ladies stayed positive! They represented healthy female empowerment to me.

Been running so long I've nearly lost all track of time In every direction I couldn't see the warning signs I must be losin' it Cause my mind plays tricks on me It looked so easy But you know looks sometimes deceive Been running so fast Right from the starting line No more connections I don't need any more advice One hand's just reaching out And one's just hangin' on It seems my weaknesses Just keep going strong [Chorus] Head over heels Where should I go Can't stop myself Outta control Head over heels No time to think Looks like The whole world's out of sync Been running so hard When what I need is to unwind The voice of reason Is one I left so far behind I waited so long So long to play this part And just remembered That I'd forgotten about my heart [Chorus] Songwriters: CHARLOTTE CAFFEY, KATHY VALENTINE

Terry Hall from The Specials did as well. It's why he wrote "Our Lips are Sealed" when he started up Fun Boy Three. Specials broke up when Dammers and he went their separate ways. Jane and Belinda do back vocals on the second album "More Specials"

Omg, I haven't heard this in so long - it sounds SO GOOD!!! The Go-Gos were such a solid group, their music hasn't lost a thing, still sounds as great as ever!

Grew up in the 70s, but videos like this help me appreciate the 80s. What a fun time, with all the great pop music amplified by music videos, which were still new enough to be interesting. Feel the same way about Take On Me and Sussudio.

I was in the grocery store today and this came on the store speakers. Well it always catches my attention but I was astounded to see a couple of young teenage boys moving to the music. There is hope! I've loved this song since it first came out when I was 24 and in the US Navy. I still have a crush on Jane!

Kevin Ashwood I loved the Go-Go's in my teen years in the 80's, I really did! LOVED their sound, no question and STILL love it now! Some things you just NEVER outgrow and the Go-Go's are one of them I'm happy to say! :-) Sad to hear Kathy Valentine's no longer with the group anymore because I thought she was an incredible bass player but the group STILL sounds awesome an STILL looks great all these years later! Thanks to the Go-Go's for making my teen years exceptionally enjoyable! :-) 'Beauty and The Beat' was EXCEPTIONAL! :-)
