Originating from California, the Great Khans are the longest living tribal group in the Fallout series. The tribe has risen and fallen in their many appearances to the series, having appeared in three separate titles. But with such a storied past, what does the future hold for these brutal and powerful raiders?

Some players are sympathetic to their plight only because of our history with them. We have seen them at the height of their power and in New Vegas we see them at their absolute lowest. But they're just raiders. They're murderers and chem pushers. The best ending for the Mojave and the Wasteland as a whole is one where they're wiped out.

The ending doesn't change. If you become the leader you get the same options as before: Break off the alliance with Caesar and help the NCR, Stay with Caesar, Make Regis the new leader and tell him to leave the Mojave. Well maybe you could do head canon where in the independent ending after they fight on the NCR's side the remnants of the Khans join the New Vegas state as a military force alongside with the Kings and securitrons.

The Great Khans provide an interesting dilemma that is shared by one of the most unlikely of groups - the Institute. The dilemma being: should a faction's current generation be punished for the crimes of its predecessor's? The Khans and Institute are both guilty of terrible things, but they both pale in comparison to the sins of their forebears. Both groups have a chance to greatly improve the wasteland with the help of another group (the Followers and Minutemen, respectively) if led down the straight and narrow path. Personally, I cannot stand the Great Khan's hypocrisy and victim complex, and I tend not to seek their golden ending. And yet, I like giving the Institute a second chance to actually benefit the Commonwealth. The way I see it, the Khans throughout the decades have shown very little noble aspirations when compared to the Institute's ideals. Thanks for your many brilliant and wonderful videos.

I will say that one of the interesting things to me about the Great Khans is how their second in command and potential leader is their Chief Law Enforcer, which is a pretty far cry from a group previously known as "lawless" and a nice lead into what you suggested about their Wyoming empire being based in economics and trade!

I like the think the courier is another vault dweller descendant (some lonesome road lines actually elude to this) & chooses to "give the khans a break." As in give a change of pace from what's basically become a running gag of his lineage annihilating the khans. Oh & if obsidian ever got another crack at the wheel, i'd bet on the setting being the northwest- the wyoming area that the khans migrate to. Theyre basically a staple of the west coast games afterall

So the history of the great khans summarized is: "Khans harm people, people genocide the khans so they cant harm them no more, khans run away, start harming people elsewhere" And that three times in a row. Hopefully they learn and become smarter in wyoming, but i doubt it, the legion is the only long term solution to such tribes and the ncr did nothing wrong in bitter springs besides leaving survivers and apologizing afterwards.

There’s two good endings regarding the Khans in my opinion, with one of which being bad for the Khans, and good for the restoration of civilization. The Great Khans are nothing more than chem-addicted raiders, so they don’t exactly deserve to create a Northwestern empire. Additionally, the whole empire idea implies a future conflict with whatever comes of the NCR should the NCR win Hoover Dam. The best ending for the Khans is having the NCR move them far north of NCR trade routes, so that NCR’s operations in the Southwest could expand and prosper without having the Khans be further involved through their raids. The second best ending, if NCR wins Hoover Dam and regains its strength, would likely be the Northwestern empire, but it’s not necessarily that good of an idea when you consider that the Khans could build a nation and use it to get revenge on the NCR in a future title.

Is there evidence in the games of the Great Khans engaging in slave trading independently (as in, not under the purview of their alliance with the Legion)? I've been playing the HOI4 OWB mod with a friend lately and was playing a game as the Great Khans. After I did the national focus to conquer the territory of a nearby tribe, I had a couple more national focuses to do that involved enslaving about 1 in 3 of the civilians in the newly-conquered territory, and then training the people to adopt Khan ways. It felt similar to a kind of assimilation the Legion would conduct, and it made me wonder if it was something the mod creators added in based on established lore or not (specifically the Great Khans independently engaging in slavery/assimilation in that manner).
