While cut 2nd is not always an option for every block, when I can I do it at the block level. The one exception is when I am doing borders, then having two exact borders and easing in where needed actually improves the quality - making it more rectangular and less of a trapezoid. Thanks for another great video, and happy everything to you and your staff.

Woke up to this new video and couldn't be more pleased! I've never sewn a log cabin for the simple fact that I DREADED cutting all those pieces, and trying to keep them organized while sewing. I get bored easily and putting something like that away and starting something else would leave me stressed. Quilting for me is about relaxation and creativity, and I think I'm going to try a log cabin now after seeing your method! Thanks for another great video!

At last! I'm an experienced quilter, but I have struggled with log cabin blocks every time I attempt to carefully build them. You have presented the strategy I needed...and the permission to 'buck the system'. I hear so many experts say that the log cabin block is great for beginners...in my opinion, this is not so.

I agree as my first log cabin was at a tutorial by a quilt shop lady. It was pre cut in strips and each strip added was cut with scissors at the end to match the pieced part. But that was in the days before the good rulers came out. Result was quite wonky. I finished it a few years ago but it had been hanging round for ages as a UFO - I used the Judy Martin scalloped piano border - ended up not too bad - and nobody sees the wonky bits! Have a lovely Christmas Maureen - and everyone else too. Happy New Year.

I should have had this video yesterday. I made 4 log cabin blocks and I I saw the error you point out. I'll do it your way next time. Merry Christmas and I'm looking forward to all of you 2024 opinions.

I'm like you, Maureen, I sew then cut. It seems that no matter how many years of quilting go by, my seams are never absolutely perfect, so for me, it's definitely the way to go, no matter what a pattern says. And log cabins - although they look simple, they can be tough. I made my first one using just a regular ruler and I measured every strip, length and width, as I went along, and it was time consuming and a headache for me. I eventually got the Creative Grids log cabin ruler, and it made life so much easier! Happy Holidays to you and yours!

This is very helpful for me. It's always been a chore for me to make a log cabin quilt. I will give this a try.
